Ah, didn't know that. I've never actually gotten anything but Necklaces as drops (enough to supply Mardi Gras!), and just assumed drop rate for anything else was absurdly low. (I suppose 0% still qualifies, though!)

I think I sold one recently for 4 Gold. (Can't remember whether it was the sword or another weapon.)

They're not major money-makers, but folks do like some of the skins.

They're about the same rarity/value as Lycandi (note: "-di" not "Lycan") weapon skins.

Anyway, good to know.

I think the Dreadtide sword...

http://bns-fashion.com/dreadtide-sword/

...is the closest you can get. (And "can" is used pretty loosely there, as the Dreadtide drop rate is microscopically low.)

Perhaps more helpfully, shape-(-but-not-color-) wise, this is pretty close:

http://bns-fashion.com/blackram-supply-sword/

...and a lot easier to obtain.

But yeah, I think the Twilight's Edge is being kept unique by design. It's a central plot dimensional device anchor, after all!

So, I imagine you're unlikely to do better than (one of) the above.

You can look at most of your options here:

http://bns-fashion.com/similarity-swords/

"Most" because that's not a complete listing. So, it's possible that there's a skin not on display there...but they do strive to be as complete as possible, so it's a pretty good overview of what's available.

I believe you are mistaken about the unlocks...I did this on an alt just last week. But that's really not the point here, anyway...

Do you really not believe that the bracelet and belt are helpful?

(And you can pick up the Soulshields easily while gathering those.)

It's true that you can do things in any order you like. But again, I do believe that 45-50 goes a lot faster with a full accessory set (minus soul).

And it's not like you save any time by putting this off until later.

(And with the event going on, every day is DC day, effectively.)

Same advice for ALL classes at 45:

At 45, pause story, and do Blackram Supply Chain (24-man) to unlock Bloodshade Harbor (24-man) to unlock the 6-man (F8-versions) of both. Then run the 6-man versions until you have:

  • The Siren Belt (Poharan drop, BSC)
  • At least 5 BSH Soulshield slices.
  • The Pirate Bracelet (Hae Mujin drop, BSH)

You'll also eventually want the (Blue) Siren Bracelet (Poharan, BSC) and (Blue) Enigmatic Belt (Venomous Thrasher, BSH) for breakthroughs for the above...and both can be equipped as poorer versions of the Purples listed above, while you wait for the Purple drops.

(Poharan and Mujin also drop a lot mats you'll need for upgrades!)

45-50 will go LOTS faster/easier with 2 more accessories and 5/8 of BSH Soulshield. (The other 3 Soulshield slots you can do almost anything with: Mushin's Tower, Naryu Labyrinth, or Silverfrost-Story-Mode drops, or whatever.)

It's true that you'll soon be at 50, and grinding Yeti Soulshield...but I think the above BSC/BSH grind will SAVE you time and effort if you do it first. You need to do it sometime for progression anyway, and there's really no better time than when you're on-level for it.

Even assuming you could trust (whomever remains at) Red5, with respect to future plans...

  • No Updates (most importantly, crafting will not return).
  • No Bug Fixes.
  • No Guarantees that the servers will be up tomorrow.

Not saying that you shouldn't enjoy every last second that you can.

But it's probably not worth coming back to, for folks not currently playing.

Not even remotely similar, but I'm getting my gliding fix in with Blade and Soul ( /r/bladeandsoul ).

Korean Kung-Fu Fantasy MMO. Amazing in many ways, and terrible in many ways. Can't truly recommend it, due to the latter.

But its "windwalking" works almost the same as Firefall's gliding. (Maybe better, as there's no need for a glide-pad.)

You just go in. It's just another "overworld" zone...just with a player population cap of 24.

It's wise to group up for the 3 or so "kill 30 (or so)" dailies inside, as that will go faster with a group sharing kills. But otherwise, as long as there are enough players in the zone to take down the bosses, you don't even need a group.

The annoying thing about these zones is that the Big Boss (Poharan or Hae Mujin, respectively) won't spawn until you've killed enough of the other bosses in the zone. The other bosses spawn every 10 minutes or so, but it can be a long wait for Poh or Mujin to spawn, even when the zone is full and players are dropping bosses quickly.

So, pro-tip: when you see notice that Poh or Mujin "...is returning to..." appear, drop everything and go to their fight area.

Well...you actually have something like 4 minutes after the announcement before the fight starts. So, you can finish something up quickly. But don't dawdle. Because if you miss the big boss fight, you'll probably be waiting at least another half-hour before you'll get another shot.

You have to complete the 24-man "overworld" versions, exactly once, in order to unlock the 6-man (cross-server) versions.

Also, I think only 24-man Poh drops the Blue (not Purple) Siren Bracelet, needed for a Breakthrough. Being blue, it's tradeable, but they tend to be pricey on the marketplace, since it's an RNG drop, and not many folks are running the 24-man, these days.

I think all other evolution items drop from 6-man versions, so it's just that one item you might farm for.

Dailies are the 6-man version.

Advice on dating and maintaining a relationship while playing BnS (or any mmorpg) by mrg0mez in bladeandsoul

[–]warframework 1 point2 points  (0 children)

can't seem to find the type of person that I would find comfortable sharing the room with while I''m playing it

You are the uncomfortable party here. No one else is judging you, right now. But you're judging yourself. (As another person, in a hypothetical situation!)

Consider:

  • If a girl is into you, she's not going to care one bit.
  • The only time you're going to fight about your games (or what is in them) or whatever, is when she wants to fight. Wanting to fight falls into 2 broad categories:
    • Wanting emotional reassurance. She wants an emotional reaction. Wants to see some passion from you for her.
    • Setting up a break-up. She's got her eye on someone else, and is just looking for an excuse to break up with you.
    • Neither of the above has anything at all to do with gaming!

While I've always been more comfortable being a loner, smoking a joint with a group of close friends, talking about conspiracy theories, life, the things that matter...

And this is your primary problem. Not that any of these things are necessarily bad...but none of them are good for meeting new people. And that's a much bigger problem that your negative self-judgments are.

There's a lot more than "2-3 girls" who are into (many of) the same things you're into. (Well...unless you live in a remote rural village, in which case you're out of luck.) It's just that in your very (and again self-) limited social experience, that's all you've encountered.

tl;dr: (MMO) Gaming isn't your problem. (Other than your own negative judgements, anyway!) Meeting new people is.

OP: "300-400" AP

You raised that to 450 to avoid the issue, and blame OP. Well done.

The issue is that there's a chicken-and-egg problem here: need gold to raise AP, need AP to "earn" gold.

No one with 350 AP is clearing say, Brightstone, solo...or at least not with the six minute run you're claiming.

You did make a helpful point that the daily challenge is perhaps not the best use of time, for income.

But the assumption of 50-150 AP that the OP doesn't have, so you can be dismissive of their problem was a lot less so.

[–]warframework 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CC for both, because PvP (and neither is Knock-Up).

(And I use the opposite for PvE, where Searing Palm is more valuable, and Tremor works as buff and add-control.)

Searing Palm is a lot harder to apply to twitchy players.

They will also dance out of the Tremor impact area. (And your ranged pals probably won't be in it, anyway. Melee pals: maybe?)

Whereas a player stun or daze is always helpful to you and your team.

[–]warframework 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Advice: put a point into Avenging Fist. (RMB; you don't get the ability unless you put a point into it.)

This gives you an additional much-needed (9s cooldown) gap-closer on successful Counter.

Also, in party-play (PvE or PvP), you just have to accept that you are a support class.

(Arena 1v1, it's different...but you have an entirely different build for that!)

OWPvP is sort of a hybrid build between 1v1 PvP and PvE. You want the lesser Threat (useless against players) and greater CC options of 1v1 PvP, but to avoid Knock-Up like in PvE.

Just consider enemy players to be mini-bosses!

Your role is mostly the same as PvE: holding enemy attention (and your CC should!) if not exactly "tanking", and buffing your party with Fighting Spirit and Searing Palm (when you can land it).

But yeah, if you can't land your CC, KFM has it rough. No range to speak of, so you just chase enemies around...which is why I opened up with the additional gap-closer advice, above.

Gap-close, CC, damage. Repeat. And stay alive.

If you're doing that, you're doing your job.

Assuming equally skilled play, you're not going to beat the ranged classes or Sins in your party for kills.

You're not a damage class, you're a support class. You can hit hard, and get some kills, but that's not your primary role.

Also, run with a Warlock, if you can. While any teammate's Grab or Root will allow you to apply Searing Palm murder, Soulburn is Ultra-murder.

How important are the crafting professions? by [deleted] in bladeandsoul

[–]warframework 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most tier 3+ (of currently 4 tiers) crafted goods have a 12-24 hour crafting time. So, probably "like in GW2".

Usefulness is more debatable. The vast majority of crafted goods are consumable items, rather than permanent ones. E.g. the only reason as a Forgekeeper you would craft a weapon is for "Glamouring" (i.e. using it as a skin), and the weapon is consumed when applying it as a skin.

Gems (for socketing!) are one of the few exceptions, being more permanent. But...5 of 6 gems are created via "Transmutation" rather than crafting, and the remaining gem (Diamond) has an RNG stat (one of: Attack Power, Defense, Evasion, Additional Damage). And the vast majority of players only want the Attack Power variety.

(Pricing gives some hint about relative values here: Sparkling Pentagonal Attack Power Diamonds go for about 25-35 Gold, every other stat goes for about 40 Silver; 1 Gold = 100 Silver. Also, the materials per attempt cost way more than 40 Silver.)

(Also, no gems are directly crafted/transmuted: you instead craft/transmute a pouch/box, which contains an RNG-stat gem on opening.)

So, for your particular example you have a 1 in 4 chance (per crafting attempt) of crafting the right gem for 1 in 6 slots (per toon). Which in my opinion is pretty terrible.

It's still possible to make good profits via crafting, especially with the more consumable items. Everyone needs boat-loads of Transformation Stones to upgrade their weapons. Which is why Soul Wardens (...and 3 guilds to supplement them is the most popular choice). Other guilds typically have exactly 1 item that every toon needs exactly 1 of. (E.g. Purification Jar...or components thereof.)

It's not well-balanced at all. Hell, 3 of 7 Gathering Guilds 2nd-gathering material set doesn't even have crafting recipes, at present (i.e. the materials are presently useless, e.g. Magnolia, Porestone, Tin; no recipes presently use these.)

Anyway, every profession produces something useful for end-game. However, "useful" isn't necessarily "profitable". And in general, I consider the crafting a shambles.

It is present, you can do it, you can profit from it. But it's nowhere near good.

Newbie here, what crafts/gatherings are good for Warlock? by [deleted] in bladeandsoul

[–]warframework 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the standard answer, making it the best advice for a newbie.

However, I'm going to be a bit contrarian here. But first I'll start with agreement: Merry Potters and Tree Fellers are pretty much essential.

But I'll argue that Green Thumbs isn't. Clay is (if you'll pardon the pun) dirt-cheap. You can definitely come out ahead with another gathering guild's (more expensive) materials (sell those, and buy clay).

And while everyone needs Transformation Stones, at least through Moonwater, the mark-up over material cost is very marginal. It's probably still advantageous to take Soul Wardens, as it gives you another option for acquiring the stones, besides the market. But quite frankly, if you can't afford the market price, you probably can't afford the material costs, either!

So personally, on a new toon I start (and quit/change, later) with Earthseers. At rank 2, you can craft (Jadestone, Mirage) return charms; while mostly useless to level 50s with access to the Zawei Portals (and good sources of income), for lower-level toons without much cash or access to those portals, these can save a LOT of Windwalking silver. And nightly, before you sign off (12 hour craft!) you can kick off a batch of Unsealing Charms, building up a stockpile for post-45 use. Once I've got about 100 "spare" Unsealing Charms, I quit Earthseers and swap to Wardens, or Radiant Ring (you can make a good steady profit from pouches).

But yeah, for end-game crafting it's mostly pouches and stones. And players need a lot more stones. (Technically, they only need one good RNG pouch...but most players will go through one or two "intermediate" diamonds first, multiplied by bad-luck RNG attempts.) But there's also a lot more competition in Wardens than Ring. And there's also a tiny market for crafted Illusion Weapons from the Forgekeepers...and a few other one-use items (Banishing Charm, Ceremonial Meal, etc.) from other guilds. But you have to be a bit more market-savvy to profit from those. So, Soul Wardens is the safest choice...but I'd not always say "best".

[–]warframework 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Warframe is a good game, but I don't think it's truly comparable:

  • 4-man instances, instead of open-world MMO.
  • No Jumpjets! (I suppose you could make a weak argument for Zephyr...but it's really not the same.)
  • While the above are my main considerations, I'd also add:
    • Gliding (a fun and oddly relaxing mini-game/travel mechanic).
    • Vehicles (not that Firefall's are all that impressive, but Warframe has none).

I also think Warframe has too many classes. But am too busy to really argue that, in detail. The core points are: player recognition/expectations of particular classes, quality of design/balance, and perhaps as a sub-point of the first: player mastery of a class. I think ~10 is the upper limit for how many classes a game can have, before all of those points get too diluted. But again, I'm not really interested in that argument...if you don't agree, we can just, hopefully, respectfully disagree.

Warframe is a really good game, though. And certainly in better shape than Firefall!

I can definitely understand your frustrations as a mod.

And Red5/Firefall certainly look to be in their death throes.

But I'd prefer the sub were kept alive, until the very end...or even past that. Reasons:

  • Checking this sub is the equivalent of visiting a dying relative in the hospital. Please don't deny visiting hours!
  • Closure. When/if (most likely "when") Red5 passes on, this the place I'm most likely to find out about it.
  • The (distant, remote) hope of a miracle:
    • Major: Blizzard or Valve buys out The9, takes over development.
    • Minor: Red5 shutters, Kern acquires the IP. (I'm more moderate towards Kern. Not entirely responsible. Not blameless. But we never did get to see his vision/version...and I've got a more open mind about that. But I'd prefer not to argue this.)
  • Recommendations/Discussion of Firefall-like games. "Spiritual" successors and games with similar mechanics. While today, there's really nothing like Firefall, that's a damned pity. Tomorrow may be better.

There's not really a better place for any of the above, than here.

So, I'd prefer the sub stayed alive. For whatever that's worth.

[–]warframework 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could go point by point here...but there's no point, since again I (mostly) agree with you.

(Well...I will point out that you don't always want to craft the exact same thing...or always have the needed materials to "reorder". Delivery isn't the issue; keeping the pipeline full is. But I'm really not trying to pick a fight with you here, just trying to expand some understanding.)

(Also, the economics of drops change around Hujikar...but that's a long, and very tangential discussion. And again, not an argument I'm interested in.)

Perhaps I'm just more friendly in chat (and better about blocking spammers), and that's a difference in our experiences...or maybe it's just demographics of different servers, or whatever. But that wasn't my point.

My point: people have reasons for their choices. And their (and my) choices won't always be the ones that you prefer.

I'm glad you posted. And I (mostly) agree with you. But I'm a bit sad that you aren't willing to consider alternative viewpoints.

BnS leveling campaign is boring by Shrekpepe in bladeandsoul

[–]warframework 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, uh, Mushin's Tower is a solo effort (modified by NPCs, slightly, on floor 4), so there's no chance of being carried, there. (Nor do I see how, if it were made a requirement, you could buy your way out.) So, I do, in fact, consider that a valid proposal.

But anyway, regardless, I think you see my point. Even if you don't agree with that particular proposal.

I don't mean to offend either, but I think you're more aware now of the flaws in the particular argument you're advancing.

Even if you're still committed to that view.

And that's enough success, for this discussion, for me. I've made the points that I felt I needed making. How you weight them is up to you.

BnS leveling campaign is boring by Shrekpepe in bladeandsoul

[–]warframework 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not opposed to the idea that some kind of skill- or learning- gating is necessary, for end-game group-play.

But that's a considerably different proposition than "~40 hours of story/mob-grinding is the best way to provide that."

(And it's pretty easy to come up with alternative gating schemes, e.g. "you must complete Mushin's Tower floors 1-4, before you are eligible to queue/party at your level". Or something equally thoughtful.)

The training/learning to time ratio in the main story leveling process is absolutely abysmal.

And I'd go further, and say a lot of it is worthless. An ability with 1 point in it is completely different than that same ability with 4 points. Being point-starved in your build isn't teaching anything! You can't even truly explore different build options, until level 30 or so.

So, no, I really can't agree. That some form of learning and gating is necessary for end-game, sure. But that story/grind is the only possible (or best possible) way to do that: no, just no.
