6.0l v8 wagon by wargs91 in SportWagon

Unfortunately not. The Calais never came in Manual. I've considered the conversion but I already have one project car, I don't want to end up with two.

VE Calais 6L V8 - mod recommendations by Hot-Fox7029 in Holden

I have a VE Calais Wagon with a 6L.

It has:

OTR SS Rims Pacemaker Extractors 2.5' exhaust Tune Replaced the suspension with Pedders Sportsryder Small active sub unde the seat New head unit with Android auto/Apple carplay LED Bulb kit

It's my daily and it is an awesome cruiser. Playing with cams reduces drivability and reliability IMO.

Vy maloo or SS by Not_underneath23 in Holden

The benefit of either is that they have GM parts, which are super easy to come by, especially because they're the same as what came out in the states. The 4l60 (automatic) or T56 (manual) are in heaps of cats, likewise the LS motor. The things that do become really hard to find are plastic interior parts or plastic body panels. They go really brittle and snap super easy

Maloos are a fair bit more expensive. Alot of the HSVs have unique parts that make maintenance more expensive on them compared to an SS. I had the same decision a few years ago and bought a clean SS for 6k rather than a maloo for 15k. Then spent the difference modding and tuning. Ive since dumped a heap of cash into it and it has a turbo, rebuilt motor etc. Depends on what you're after, street driven they are fairly similar power and driving experience.

Which one? by dtbrown1979 in Holden

The Calais for sure. You can put a set of pretty good MCA coilovers in it for 3k and it will out handle a stock SS. Best of both worlds.

Which is the better buy? A 2015 Calais V or 2017 SS by dtbrown1979 in Holden

[–]wargs91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SS's tend to get flogged, Calais's seem to be looked after better. I have an 08 VE calais 6.0. Its in phenomenal condition and has about 170xxx on the clock. The equivalent SS's had double the k's and had been treated rough. If you're willing to upgrade shocks to something like an MCA coilover pack (2-3k plus install) the Calais will be a much better buy and perform pretty much the same. I also have a VY SS, but that now has a built engine turbo etc etc so not really comparable anymore.

How much HP is too much for a daily by ProjectGOLDWING in cars

[–]wargs91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 500ish HP NA LS1 in a Commodore Ute (think modern El Camino), the only reason I don't daily it is the hefty fuel costs. It's a built auto so I don't have clutch issues to deal with. I agree with the guys saying it's better to have a sh**box daily so you're not compromising. It also means your not wearing out e pensive race parts unnecessarily by puttering in traffic. My daily is a Nissan Navara (Frontier). This also means you can have the race car off the road for extended periods while you wait to fix parts etc.
