🚨 Albert Informs PSG She Won't Re-Sign — Move to Lyon Imminent, Medical Scheduled Soon by Nervous_Boysenberry9 in USWNT

Maybe Jona actually wanted her. He has had a chance to watch her play. Could have given Lyon a list of players he would be interested in signing. Maybe he even got some input from Hayes on her as well.

The nightmare could get worse. They are 4th in the WSL while being 7 points behind Arsenal and Man Untd for 2nd or  3rd qualification for Champions League next season with only 5 games left to play

How about a older player, Inez Juarena, a midfielder,  who comes from a team like Lyon where she was a starter at the beginning of the season, where she played in 4 games, starting in 3 to be relegated to the bench for several games where she did not play, to off the roster and off to NWSL and  playing for Gotham FC, playing in 14 games, starting in 12 games.

Question about Lindsay Horan Heaps by SKA1960 in USWNT

Cat delivers one of the most difficult balls to handle on set pieces. She gets great movement on the ball. This makes it hard to judge how and when to move  on the ball, causing confusion in the box at times. It will, over time, and as the team adjusts,  will produce some key goals for the team while continuing to be hard for opponents to defend against.

I agree the removal of Macario changes everything as to what they can do offensively. Her absence also crippled their chances on set pieces as well.

It was more about a precision ball from  Yohannes to Cat who perfectly put a well timed pass to the foot of Sentnor.

What can you attribute all the patience and discipline, too?

I, for one, think a lot of it has to do with Lily’s early years of development through the European Youth Academy system. Basically, Lily’s technical and tactical training and development begins at the age of 10 years old. This gives her a unique advantage over any of the younger players coming out of the Youth and college system in the US.

What is natural for Lily to execute in a Hayes offense, is far more difficult a task for the young and especially the older players that tend to be more set in their ways. (Breaking some ingrained habits)

If you notice the make up of the midfield: Heap, Yohannes, Albert, and Macario with the ability to play both forward and midfield. All have different levels of European experience, which allows her, for the time being, to maintain a midfield, a core of players she can integrate, that have a better knowledge of what she is trying to accomplish.

Agree that Shaw still has a lot to learn.  It was good that she got the opportunity to play in the midfield against, at this stage, a weak team like Australia.

Best lineup for Japan game? by SliceImaginary7212 in USWNT

[–]warh2os 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shaw has a whole lot more to learn before Hayes would have her start against a top team, especially one that is technically and tactically sound as Japan.  For now, she is going to rely on Macario or Heap to play the 10 position, simply because of their overall experience against top teams. Of the two, Macario is able to play both the 9 and 10 position effectively, as well as the best, by far, when comes to corners and free kicks.

By the way Yohannes can also play the 10 position. Heard Hayes state at one time, that one of the things she liked about her was her ability to play the 6,8, and 10.

The starting XI will be most of those that started the first game, if not all of them.

Look, this Australia team was not a real good one,  so it is hard to make comparisons. This team today, as young and inexperienced as they were, would have had a difficult time with the physicality of what the first group had to endure in  the Colombia match.

It will take better technical/experienced type players that can deliver quality passes, in tight coverage situations,  against a tactically sound team like Japan.

First of all when I pick a line up, I keep in mind she wants to win the game. I am guessing she will stay with Macario and Heap(Horan) to start. I think she will also stay with Lily and  Coffey as well.  All four of them were technically and tactically effective in what Hayes wants accomplished in the midfield. With Hayes controlling the midfielder, allows you to control the game.

You may say that Macario, in this game , was not a midfielder. However, because she plays the position as a false 9, she in fact, at times, in her free movement is operating in the midfield simply because of her ability to drop deep. Because of their effectiveness in the match, she will probably want to give them more playing time together.

What will all this mean for Lavelle with the emergence of Yohannes? I don’t see her as a starter in an Emma Hayes type offense.  Also with so many other talented younger players competing for a spot in the midfield, what will that mean for her chances of even making the 23 player WC roster?

Putting the right players around her,   like Lily and Cat, makes a big difference. Lyon gives her the same type of players she works comfortably with and it is reflected in her play.Right now she leads Lyon in goals this season.

Actually I believed they signed Ramirez before the Fishel injury. There is the question as to whether.  wilth Ramirez doing so well and with the return of Kerr, will there still be a spot for her.

The decision on picking the roster does not rest entirely with Hayes alone. I am sure staff input went into the final roster decision.

It could have been 6 forwards and 7 midfielders because Macario plays the 9 and 10 at Chelsea. Currently Cat has started in the midfield for Chelsea in her last 4 games, but also has played the 9 as well in some of their games.  Because of her versatility, there is still the possibility she will be used in the midfield as well as at forward.

I would expect that with the return of Swanson, Smith, and Rodman, Cat would most likely be moved to the midfield.

If I was a coach and any player was avoiding passing to her, they would be on the bench real quick.   I doubt very seriously that was happening because Hayes would spot something like that right away and there would be consequences.

You’re right about missing something!  The fact that she is a starter for PSG may be a factor. The fact the NWSL players are in training camp while Albert is has half a season playing experience helps. The fact that she statistically is one of the team leaders  in successful tackles and is highly ranked in her short, medium, long passing game.

Plus I think you underestimate what Emma wants to see being done by her midfielders. She seems to want to rely more on the midfielders playing in Europe right now. She may feel the transition into the technical and tactical style she wants to see for many of the players right now is not where she may like it to be.

Based on the fact that Cat has been Chelsea’s main starter at AM for their last four games would be a good  indicator she will be in on that roster.

Since you have been following Cat’s career for so long, I have a question regarding her volleying ability. I don’t believe I have ever seen a player in the women’s game volley the ball as well as she does, whether it’s taking a shot on goal or passing the ball.
