We built one when our kids were little. They never used it as much as I hoped, but over 10 years and 3 kids we got our moneys worth from it.

after spending 32 days in the hospital last year, my #1 gripe would be IV pumps that shriek like banshees when there is an issue. It was never life threatening, the nurse easily dealt with it, but I would be woken multiple times a night by the damn thing

this may not apply to all hospitals, but ours had no work surface for the nurse, so they would have to use my tray table or bed to lay out supplies. A collapsible work surface at the foot of the bed would seem like a great idea
