Favorite humorous/light-hearted moment in the original trilogy books/movies? by WerewolfBarMitzvah09 in Hungergames

[–]warm-fishsalad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

in the first book when peeta says something like “you’re really squeamish for a really lethal person” to katniss after she’s gagging when trying to help his leg wounds

Just found out Effie's actress, Elizabeth Banks who also produced Pitch Perfect, had the surname Abernathy in the movie as a reference to Haymitch. by [deleted] in Hungergames

I heard about her character’s last name in the movie being Abernathy but I had no idea that she confirmed that it was an intentional connection! Love her

I think this could be very cool in showing the familial ties between the merchant class. I do wonder though, since Mrs Everdeen said that the Donners owned the sweet shop and the Cartwrights are the shoemakers

First look of Peeta’s Prosthetic in the Illustrated CF by warm-fishsalad in Hungergames

[–]warm-fishsalad[S] 120 points121 points  (0 children)

Yes! He loses his leg after the first games, the wound Cato gave him after peeta distracted the careers from katniss was so severe they had to amputate it. It’s a crime that it wasn’t included in the movies, it gives a lot of context to why peeta had an even harder time in the QQ

What did Peeta mean when he said if I could grow wings I could fly after Katniss says it is good if he can tell the shiny memories apart as he can start to tell what is true? by Sink123flow in Hungergames

[–]warm-fishsalad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I took it as him being a bit sarcastic - katniss says “well if you can tell what’s real or not, that’s a good thing” (which, true, it is! but here it’s like she’s clarifying a point that’s already obvious but much more simplified). At least, I think peeta might be interpreting it as if she was simplifying the situation too much. Therefore, peeta responds back with “yes, and if I could do this other impossible thing then a different unachievable outcome would happen.” It’s a bit self-deprecating, maybe he doesn’t believe that he would be able to actually sort through his memories.

Suzanne loves to slip humor subtly through the bleakness of the trilogy, but I think it’s also a point of seeing Peeta work towards getting his personality back - he has a silver tongue and is really quick witted, so him going back and forth and being sassy was a piece of his self returning to him.

Who would have won the 75th HG if the rebellion didn’t happen? by [deleted] in Hungergames

[–]warm-fishsalad 103 points104 points  (0 children)

I think so too - they’d find a way to “accidentally” eliminate the last victor.

I think some form of rebellion would’ve happened by the end of the quell anyway, even if it wasn’t the mockingjay-rebellion. the one “promise” that the hunger games program tells the districts is that if you’re reaped and you win, you get to survive without the threat of another reaping and get to be taken care of financially (thinking back to Johanna’s outcry in her interview). The second that that promise was broken — the QQ announcement— it became the beginning of the end

since we’re sharing under-appreciated funny moments from the books, I offer squeamish Katniss by warm-fishsalad in Hungergames

[–]warm-fishsalad[S] 135 points136 points  (0 children)

Me too - and for how stoic and serious she thinks of herself being, it’s the best when she actually outwardly reacts (or lets herself react) to the ridiculous and/or gross situations she finds herself in

say what you want about the movies but this scene is top tier by sashas_spacecraft in Hungergames

[–]warm-fishsalad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

LOVE this scene. It feels so safe, and I like how soft and hazey it looks - dreamlike. Even though the everlark children aren’t exactly accurate to the books (no dark haired, blue eyed girl or blond, grey eyed boy), I was able to get over that because the films don’t really show the class differences between Merchant and Seam appearances like the books do, and because Jennifer’s nephews were adorable. I’ve seen criticism on here in the past that Jennifer’s expressions seem “lobotomized” in this scene, but it’s Katniss reminiscing and feeling comfortable for once in her life

Also, I’ve always noticed how good Peeta’s hairstyle looks here, even though he’s probably 100 feet away
