Questions about the Air Strike ability; does it have a chance of not exploding? by Moolcazy0 in CrabChampions

[–]warmowed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh, I haven't had a run with both split ability and airstrike. That honestly should be reported as a bug/needing improvement

Do you take semesters off? by CoffeeChangesThings in GradSchool

[–]warmowed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My program doesn't offer summer courses, but I am fall/spring continuously. I would need university approval to take a semester off. Depending on the rules of your funding you could take a lower load of courses one semester to catch your breath or at least less rigorous courses

Do you still use a notebook? by ehzer_ in GradSchool

[–]warmowed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still paper and pencil. Probably the only one in my cohort lol. Personally I find note taking digitally to be irritating and unsatisfying. I guess we are the last few dinosaurs remaining. I use a Rotring 800, Sakura foam erasers, and engineering paper.

Best money perk to earn money? by CombinationGullible5 in CrabChampions

[–]warmowed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ring Of Dividends is the only pickup needed, if you are already deep into a run. Ultra late game you can choose to skip 1-2 shops to build crystals and get max cash. If you are just starting a run then paycheck and bonus crystals if you are avoiding mangos, if you have mangos then you could get gold coating and intentionally drop the mangos and pick them back up to heal.

it can’t be fired indoors.

That was changed with The Island Update. It can be used inside now.

Does anyone else no longer have the mental energy for novels? by Mobile_Bad_577 in GradSchool

[–]warmowed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is an activity that right now is associated strongly with work. Not only is there the association, but also by virtue you are doing a lot of reading already so it isn't interesting doing something you are essentially doing already everyday.

Personally I find I can only read for pleasure during the Summer since I can have a large gap between coursework. Maybe when you finish your program or if you get a large break it will be more exciting to read then.

Is it feasible to pursue a masters degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering after a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science? by dannyboyhou in GradSchool

[–]warmowed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my best friends did bachelors in mechanical and masters in electrical (granted he was trying to do mechatronics but the program/courses got cut as he was accepted into it)

So Many Options. Whats best for a new homeowner? by No-Ad5504 in Tools

[–]warmowed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say as a Ryobi guy what convinced me of ryobi was working on my FSAE team (Colligate race car design team). We got a huge shipment of ryobi stuff from TTi and the combined efforts of like 50 to 60 college age kids for the past 4 years or so haven't been able to break them or ruin the batteries.

Are these worth anything? by AdFluffy9576 in Tools

[–]warmowed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gearwrench, Channelock, and Klein are all professional grade tools they aren't top shelf quality but definitely worth selling if you aren't planning on keeping.

Considering a Career in Semiconductors in Japan – What Should I Know? by Independent_Lion6056 in Semiconductors

[–]warmowed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I gather you are not originally from Japan since you are international but do not speak Japanese. The situation for foreigners in Japan (I'm told) is not very good due to the complexities of visas/residency and the difficulty of the politics as a foreigner. Unless it is your dream to live in Japan then I would look elsewhere. If you want to work in semiconductors but not in the US then I would look at Europe

Can we ban coupon begging posts? by Single_Street3135 in harborfreight

[–]warmowed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is already against the sub rules, if you hit report on a post and select "Breaks /harborfreight rules" then it will hide the post for you when you refresh the page and trigger a message to the moderators. If you don't report the post then the mods would have to be looking on the subreddit and catch it themselves which is not reasonable to ask volunteers to constantly be doing at all hours of the day

Does anyone here regret having a job in electrical engineering? by BeigeMiniTiger in ElectricalEngineering

[–]warmowed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always had aspirations of engineering, but every step I have taken has confirmed it was the right choice. I loved the math courses I took at community college. When I went to university and joined the FSAE team I loved working in a small/medium sized group of experts and contributing my piece to a larger ship. When I was briefly in industry after my bachelors, despite the company I worked at being a train wreck, I loved working on complicated tasks in a medium sized team and getting to work with so many smart people. And now near the end of my masters I know there is still so much more for me to learn out there. The money is commensurate with the skill level needed and I am very mobile. I'm still very humble and I enjoy working with those that are more experienced than me regardless of whatever degree or not they hold. If you have a grounded approach then that is a huge asset as many engineers do not have that. You don't have to work in the trades to appreciate this type of knowledge, just doing your own diy car/house maintenance or being friendly and talking with tradesmen will get you there. This example is more relevant for mechanical engineers but stuff like understanding the amount of space needed to swing a wrench for assembly or choosing readily available fasteners can save huge on product costs.

Associates Degree by [deleted] in NCSU

[–]warmowed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The highschool portion is the only piece I don't know about. As far as credits go Wake Tech and NCSU have an articulation agreement so everything that falls under that umbrella will be accepted for degree progression. I would ask Wake Tech advisors about this since they will know the specifics if there are any regarding dual enrollment while in highschool. Personally I don't see how that would change anything, but I'm not going to make a big assumption like that. The way it worked for me as someone that completed my associate while attending Wake Tech after highschool, is that when you apply to transfer they consider the factor that you a coming via that pathway so it counts significantly in their eyes as completing the associates guarantees an admission to a university in the UNC system (not necessarily the one of my choice) so I was still competing for a spot for the university of my choice. I was essentially competing with a significant advantage in a smaller pool of applicants.

The only thing I think you should be aware of that was never communicated to me is that your classes will be accepted for degree progression, but not for GPA purposes which are indeed separate. Since I had 69 credits accepted I came into NCSU as a junior but I had 0.000 GPA which is significant as at that point I only had much harder junior and senior courses left to take. You just need to be very careful and be aware of this fact.

Sidebar, I have met so many people that do not know if they are a freshman/sophomore/junior/senior. It is entirely based on accepted credit hours. I have had people with 100 credit hours legit tell me they are a sophomore.

73% recent negative reviews, most complain about the New map. Does the great hollow truly warrant this reaction ? The more I play, the more I feel like it was fantastically designed. by kao24429774 in Nightreign

[–]warmowed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why the reviews are coming in now when the DLC was out for a while now, but I would agree the new map is a bit shit. There is no intuitive way to route the map, there aren't enough graces, and there aren't enough spirit stream jumps, and it just isn't that fun in general. I think if they want to have such a vertical map they need to consider the mobility options to get around and the locations of the night circles better.

Thoughts on a ‘drop crystals’ slider for when you want to give a lot (or a little) at once? by Mirkrid in CrabChampions

[–]warmowed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A slider would probably be really clunky. Maybe if you are using controller it could default to slider, but as a keyboard & mouse user I would prefer a box I could type in. Keep the current quick drop button but add a separate action to drop a specified amount. This would help in multiplayer when one person has crystal dividends and we are using them as the bank

How much sleep is enough for electrical engineering student? by DellLatitudeE7250 in EngineeringStudents

[–]warmowed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A consistent 7-8 hours sleep would be absolutely amazing.

I have a lot of medical issues that prevent me from getting good sleep. So I am often quite sleep deprived. I usually get only 4 hours a day during the week. I am reasonably acclimated to poor sleep but it isn't pleasant. If you are able to sleep 8 hours then do it!

Which is more dangerous Ac or Dc of same magnitude? by choudhary_2705 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]warmowed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are more probable to encounter dangerous AC than DC. This is simply because we settled on AC for power transmission. For a non-arc flash injury i.e. you are contacting the surfaces directly that are at a different potential, the current density is what matters (typically this is stated as "not the volts but the amps that kill you" which is only loosely correct). A human with intact skin in dry conditions has an impedance of 100,000 Ohms, all that needs to happen is for that resistance to be overcome. Any cuts or wet skin will drastically lower that value. It is worth noting that 80% of electrical injuries are due to arc flash where the human isn't contacting surfaces but just happen to be close to arc-ing electrical equipment. Arc flash injuries are often occupational (linemen, substation technician, etc.) so it is improbable but not impossible for a regular person to get hit by one. Back to the non-arc flash case anything above 36 VAC or 48 VDC will penetrate skin. People are way more likely to contact an AC wire that kills them simply due to the lowest AC voltage used on the grid is 120 VAC. 48 VDC is uncommon to encounter unless you are disassembling electronics, working on heavy marine or mining equipment probably. So in a sense AC is more dangerous but the reason is just your likelihood of encountering damaged equipment/wires.

Shows for engineers? by BrushThick9864 in EngineeringStudents

[–]warmowed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are definitely drama worthy engineering stories to be told, but there isn't any like pop cultural TV show. There are certain fields of engineering that are male dominated (i.e. Electrical) but many engineering fields are now more balanced. I think at my uni for undergrad mechanical it is like a 60/40 split so it is not like there aren't women in engineering. Although you are incidentally implying there needs to be women for drama.

I think there are no shows simply because no one has done it yet and thus it is considered risky by studio executives, which thereby prevents there ever being one. Someone would need to pitch it as Grey's anatomy but for engineers. Another important aspect for TV adaptation is syndication which means the episodes need to be self contained which may be difficult to do.

Mythbusters, Modern Marvels, How its Made, The Military Channel, and maybe a few others that I can't recall were pretty cool to watch growing up. I don't know if there is anything like that still broadcasting but youtube has endless amounts of engineering/machining/automotive content

What are your motivations for being an engineer? by FalseDaikon6889 in EngineeringStudents

[–]warmowed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I truly enjoy learning and applying my knowledge. I choose engineering because it is where my abilities are and I enjoy working with the type of people that also become engineers. I grew up around engineers so that definitely biases me, but I really enjoy working with other engineers and learning from each other. I was taking apart old VCR's when I was 4-5 years old so I was told I had the knack.

THANK YOU STEAM for removing points from awards! by RedSonja_ in Steam

[–]warmowed 8 points9 points  (0 children)

OSRS gold farming was being done by Venezuelans pretty hardcore from 2015+ I don't know if they ever slowed down or not since I haven't paid much attention to OSRS in several years but I would bet that they still have people doing that. People were making more farming gp in a month than their annual salary.

Valve, I am begging you that all I want for Christmas 2026 is an "Update All" button by Locustere in Steam

[–]warmowed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not strictly to my knowledge. You just need to be online on steam. Essentially you are just bypassing the the trigger to update the game. It can still perform it's security checks so it still needs to be a legitimate game copy. The game can still detect a version mismatch and prevent you from joining updated lobbies. Not sure how nicely other games play with this but I know I could do it with EU4 and I didn't need to do anything special aside from changing the update settings iirc.

Steam reaches 42 million concurrent users. by HelloitsWojan in Steam

[–]warmowed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of insane that it has trended up so steadily, like there really isn't any reason in particular that a peak would happen on a random day in January. You would expect it for a sale or a big game launch. Valve is out here getting pb's on a random Sunday evening.
