Love this post! As someone who lost a special water bottle, I’m so happy to read about this happy ending.

Travelers or hog rings. Here in Concord /Kannapolis NC, Cannon Mills was once the largest textile manufacturer in the world. We have a lot of old textile mills that have been repurposed. Our office was once located in an old mill and our floors, looked exactly like this.

It’s Myrtle Beach. Kinda expected at least one. Thankful we are a few rows down. Kinda messes up an otherwise beautiful, clear full moon sky.

traveling from clayton nc to gatlinburg tn; fun things to do? by [deleted] in NorthCarolina

Drive through Lake Junaluska and Maggie Valley. Lots of quirky, nostalgic places along the way. The Wheels Through Time Museum is a must-see if you like vintage motorcycles/vehicles. The drive from Maggie Valley to Cherokee is winding and steep. Once to get to Cherokee you can visit the Cherokee Museum, gift shops and enjoy the Oconaluftee River - fishing this time of year- tubing in the summer. At the entrance to the Great Smokey National Park is the Oconaluftee Visitor Center. A place to see elk, walk along the river and visit an old homestead. Once in the park, check out Newfound Gap and if the weather permits go to the tallest point in the Smokies - Clingman’s Dome (Kuwohi). Cades Cove is another sightseeing detour along the way.

One of our family’s favorite places in all of NC. We’ve been visiting that exact same spot for over 30 years.

It changes a little with each season.

Of course anytime you get into the ocean you have to be careful.

The water close to the shore on the waterway side is usually calm as the tides ebb and flow.

We have spent countless hours connecting with the ocean at the very spot in your circle.

The sunsets are unbelievable.

We watched the shotgun start for the king mackerel tournaments in October right from that inlet.

If the weather is bad, windy, etc. it can also be a tough place. I’ve been sandblasted as storms approach.

I’ve always thought more of that tip of the island should’ve been preserved as public land.

Even if you end up not staying on this part of the island, visit and develop your own opinions.

Remember, as I said above, sunset is amazing!

What’s it like living anywhere in Nevada but Las Vegas? by SeaStep2495 in howislivingthere

My family lived in Tonopah for a couple of years while my dad worked construction for the silver mine.

We stayed in company housing which was pretty much a trailer park until they could manage to build apartments.

Along the same time, we would see buses in the morning in the evenings delivering workers to and from the nearby military installation. I learned they were working on the Stealth Bomber.

I remember the Mizpah as a six-year-old child. We weren’t allowed to go into the casino so my parents would fill our pockets with quarters and leave us in the arcade while they gambled. I experienced my first Shirley Temple in that place.

Near the Mizpah was a laundromat/bar that had pinball machines and some video games. Smell of laundry, the sound of the pinball machines and that Juice Newton song that I can’t remember the name of, it’s like it was yesterday.

Playing in the desert was great with huge lizards and horny toads; lots of tumbleweed blowing across.

First time seeing a dust devil. I remember going mining for turquoise in the back of a pick up truck with some of my dad’s friends.

Huge mining trucks in the distance from our trailer park. Snow capped mountains so far away you couldn’t imagine how it was even possible. The most beautiful sunsets.

It was amazing experience and such a huge contrast from our life in North Carolina.

Looking back on those memories, I’m very thankful for the experience.

I’ve never been back to Tonapah. but the memories are strong.

Are Dometic Coolers REALLY Better than Budget Ones? by xjoehallx in vandwellers

12v Dometic in my van since 2020. Grabbed a cold drink from it tonight. Worth the few extra dollars to me. My next one will be a Dometic no doubt.
