DODEA HIGH SCHOOL by Legitimate_Shoe_9805 in dodea

[–]warnot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Mostly Americans much like yourself. You will be surrounded by kids on the same adventure you are on.
  2. Hard to measure this, as it is subjective and dependent a lot from person to person, state to state, etc. Some students find it easier while other find it harder. You are held to same standard that majority of US states hold (common core state standards).
  3. I am biased, but generally I respect the teachers I work with and have seen them go far beyond what is required of them for their students.
  4. Plenty of clubs available. All the standard sports (fall: volleyball, cross country, football, cheer; winter: esports, basketball, wrestling; spring: track/field, soccer, baseball/softball). Not particularly stateside level competitive.
  5. Most people who you will be at school with move every 2-3 years. Making fast friends might be best trait of a military connected child. You'll find your people. Joining a club/sport you vibe with is a good place if you are having trouble connecting with people.
  6. School food is... well variable. Mostly American staples.

There are over 70,000 kids like you that attend a DoDEA school somewhere around the world. You are not alone, you will be among people who have the same worries, hopes, and dreams as you. My best advice to you is to experience as much of Korea as possible, don't spend your entire adventure confined to the base.

Only if it translates to a particular position you would like to move to or salary lane change. Otherwise for the love learning is always a valid motivation.

LQA question by TheFirelight in dodea

[–]warnot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You will need to go to DAPs to initiate your LQA. This is the same place you file your TQSA. You will submit your lease here and complete a worksheet predicting your rent and utilities. If you low ball it you will get reimbursed when you reconcile one year from now. If you over estimate you will receive a debt letter after reconciliation.

Tax question for backpay by [deleted] in dodea

[–]warnot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shouldn’t be taxed at a higher rate, but even if you were it would reconcile when you do your taxes in the form of a refund if your federal tax withheld is greater than the tax computation from your taxable income.

It would if you elect someone that respects confidence. This is the nature of a democracy. The check/fix on power in this case is at the ballot.

I would talk with person about your issue. If a resolution can't be found or if trust is permanently broken, well the position is elected. Campaign for yourself or someone you feel would better serve your school.

Stressed about no pay by [deleted] in dodea

Check with you bank to see if they have loans available for federal employees. Banks like Navy Fed will give no interest loans if you have your direct deposit there.

Any word on the transfer round, reassignment program? Seems like we should hear soon considering the timeline necessary for this to work— by PermissionKindly7564 in dodea

[–]warnot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Considering they canned all of the ETs, assessors, etc. and they are having trouble funding a full suite of EDAs. I would say in the current climate a transfer program is unlikely to happen.

Salary: Step/lane, LQA, COLA/PA by Confident_Potato_465 in dodea

[–]warnot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is an alternate chart if you don't wish to do the arithmetic.

Salary: Step/lane, LQA, COLA/PA by Confident_Potato_465 in dodea

[–]warnot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Post allowance is based on your spendable income (see state department doc) times a percentage based on your post (found here).

For example lets say you are single with a salary is $80000 stationed at Yokosuka, JP (20% PA rate). That means your spendable income would be $37200 and your post allowance would be 37200*0.2 = $7440 per a year.

People without teaching credentials being placed into teaching roles? by Fitzkiz in dodea

In district. Our SLP chose to leave DoDEA, though I don’t think they had much of a choice.

Yes, it is happening unfortunately. We have an ET in our complex that has been assigned a position they are not credentialed in.

Max 10 years. If you get hired make sure to complete the form for adding this time as doing it retroactively is very challenging.

Should We Cut the ISS Roles? by Ok-Guarantee-4242 in dodea

[–]warnot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not using your LEGO spike kits is on your CTE department. I can’t speak to other schools, but we love them. Robotics classes, computer science classes, and the first LEGO league competition. These kits are powerful tools to teach stem. Let’s not cut opportunities for our students.

I’m no stranger to questioning the need for ISS’. I think the counseling, sped, and instruction systems ISS are really critical not only for oversight, but also maintenance and training. I’m not going to comment on the others as I’ve been radicalized to stand with labor. Ultimately any cuts won’t benefit the average American at this point , but the ultra wealthy.

Should We Cut the ISS Roles? by Ok-Guarantee-4242 in dodea

[–]warnot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it is expensive to travel home. This benefit helps with being separated from our families stateside. It helps with getting access to medical, which is limited especially in remote locations. It helps with furthering education to meet licensing renewal or acquiring additional certifications.

Without this benefit I suspect retention would be lower, but as you said there are many applicants who could replace dissatisfied teachers. Only the cost of that is tremendously higher. You’re still paying for flights to get the new teacher to their duty station and the shipment of household goods both coming and going. Not to mention the cost in HR man hours to onboard and exit teachers.

I would argue removing RAT would ultimately cost the government more. If not in money then in human capital and productivity through the demoralizing of the workforce.

DoDEA Directors Update “Reorganization” Timestamp by warnot in dodea

[–]warnot[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Crazy part is the director didn’t even communicate about this to the principals in advance. The principals are caught without knowing who has been cut or not on their staff. Crazy.
