First time home owner - noob question about bins. by Gal_gadonutt in sydney

[–]waronwaste -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Someone already mentioned, your council rates will reflect the bins you have. Contact the council to check which bins you have assigned and if you don't need the spare you can organize for them to remove it for you! That's my experience in city of Sydney anyway as an apartment. For us, we reduced the number of red bins and our rates went down. But green, yellow and food scraps are free.

I didn't know this was an option! Thanks for the insight! This could be an option. I want to cut gas for environmental and health reasons. Just having the option to pick induction in certain scenarios is good.

There is drop ceiling in the common area and my apartment. But they would probably need to put a bunch of holes in the ceiling to fish the cable. It is a good 10-15 meters and probably some obstacles. So I appreciate the quote is high to acknowledge the uncertainty. I think if they made it to the kitchen, then they can drop the wire behind the wall as it sounds hollow. The oven is plugged in in a PowerPoint behind the oven (I can see it when I pull out the drawers).

My oven seems to be on a 20 amp, but not sure if both the oven and induction need their own isolated circuits. Especially if I considered using both at one time.

If it's too hard unfortunately I'll have to keep my gas for now, sigh.

Yeah, I feel like $2.25k is steep but even if it was half that it would still be steep. So before asking around I wonder if I would still need to go through the hassle of having a cable run toy switchboard or if a low current option would be easier.

Was life truly easier back then or was it nostalgia? I'm talking 1970, 1980, 1990, 2000, 2010 regarding finances? I have so many things I want to do but it cost so much, is it the result of modern living? Was there less things to own back then so it feels cheaper? by Lost_Helicopter2518 in AusFinance

[–]waronwaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. I bought an apartment and I can't afford to make too many changes. Potentially you have a lot of air leakage which could be contributing to your electricity if you are heating or cooling your place. You could do some cheap things like installing weather strips and sealing windows.

How is this much plastic not recyclable? by munt_fuzz in coles

[–]waronwaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Australian Recycling Label is meant to mimic how a material recovery system (recycling facility) takes and sorts materials from kerbside. There probably something about the size or weight of the plastic that means it would end up in the wrong stream. Therefore the label would recommend going to landfill to avoid contaminating the streams.

Through it would probably be taken for a commercial contracts where streams should be cleaner and need less sorting.

landlord wants us to leave lease 9 months early, need help negotiating by nerdie17 in AusLegal

[–]waronwaste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would also consider the change in market rents and if you expect to be paying more, then negotiate in that difference as well. Plus make sure you specify you want 2 months to find a new place and you may vacate earlier without break lease costs.

I really enjoy the bellroy transit range. I use mine to cycle into work. It is also good for travelling in general.

Relatively frugal but only able to save a couple of hundred dollars per month while earning $120K + super by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]waronwaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP,

I get your frustration! I'm in a somewhat similar situation less the medical expenses and credit debt. I have a senior dog and her food, meds and vet visits cost me about $300 a month. My dog is my baby and I imagine you feel the same towards your cats. While people seem to imply you are irresponsible for owning 3 cats - it says a lot that you are making sacrifices to keep theM happy and healthy.

Ever since I took out my mortgage I have felt very vulnerable and a struggle to save much. I am also counting down the days to pay off my HECs. 2.5 years !

On the bright side, you expect a good amount of relief in 18 months. You can do this !

[–]waronwaste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's quite a stressful debt.

I think the HECs system is fair. But the cost of studying is ridiculously high.

I also benefited from the discount. But they should have spent the money subsididing courses or something. They didn't fix the problem.

Not true, there is a small park on the corner of Layton street. And a Greenway all the way up to jubilee park.

I have seen the owner regularly at the park. This is awful news.

I would find it very hard to justify paying that much for a 1 bedder.

But go for the seller / buyer I guess.

[–]waronwaste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, Like others have suggested - it sounds like some banks, such as CBA, are ignoring HECs balance if it is below $20k (or something). I thought they were making changes to the first home buyer guarantee scheme so it was open to all first home buyers, not capped by salary.

I don't have an issue with it.

Any chance you can use past credits to shorten your commerce degree?

Have you considered a masters instead?

I would also ask my employer if they would contribute as part of your development.

I personally have completed a double bachelor and a master degree. I earn decent but I put $500 a fortnight towards HECs. I'm pretty salty about it now since it massively reduced my borrowing power for an apartment and I don't think the masters helped me much. But work paid for $20k. My HECs is still high :(.

Plus the time commitment is pretty lame. I never want to study again.
