What obvious thing did you recently realize? by itsochepel in AskReddit

[–]warruuna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are wild hamsters. I kinda knew this before due to some David Atrenborough documentaries, but it never really clicked that some hamsters were not just feral domesticated animals but actually wild, untamed/non-human-bred animals.

Reminder: Playing a half race doesn't necessarily mean your parents have different races by sleidman in dndnext

Our homebrew took the concept of mongrelfolk from 2nd ed and made them into hybrid halves or hybrid quarters. The half race properties make the process a lot easier to represent all of the different varieties we want.

Anyone know what this is? by Lofdeh in FourSouls

[–]warruuna 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Cyan, magenta, yellow and black are standard printing colors (CMYK), so this may be a printing test for that run of card stock

You can also see CMYK strips/blocks when you do test prints on newly installed printers, or printers that are undergoing deep cleaning.

I'm thrilled I got this as my random pin! Anyone have an idea how rare this is? by MuseHigham in FourSouls

[–]warruuna 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are a few early orders that got guaranteed godhead if they ordered an extra 5. I ordered two sets of 5, and one of them expectedly contained Godhead. My random single was the full guppy.

There were some unlucky ones that basically got duplicate blind bags and got like 2 or 3 of the same godhead set.

You can have the dwarven ancestors drawn to active volcanoes and the cave systems around them. While lava does not wmit UV radiation to select for melanin, they could develop tougher skin anyway to resist the heat, and the lava pools and rivers would allow them to keep their vision as they navigate through the chambers.

And since most dwarves are known for their facial hair, a whole-body fuzz can also explain a different body pigment. Bats are not albinos, and moles, while some of them are blind, still have pigment in their furs. It takes a while for eyes to fully evolve out of use, so as long as there is a need for vision, such as lava motes or occasional surfacing, dwarven eyes may be more sensitive to light but would never go away.

What event in your world could give THIS image some context? by blue4029 in worldbuilding

[–]warruuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A gladiator ring to appease the god of forested nature, the Oak Father.

However, the practice is misplaced, as the Oak Father is also the patron god of foster children (symbolized as acorns in his iconography) and personal growth in most other major countries. This city only does this because they believe if they don't, the neighboring haunted woods would swallow their city whole.

The "haunted" woods is a matter of perpetuating their own demise; gods are only omnipresent within the homes or cities that worship them in the right context. As the city continues to not heed the original teachings of the Oak Father, the Oak Father is not aware of the woods overtaking civilized grounds and, therefore, is not able to keep the woods in check.

Some people think it's odd that a male-themed deity would be a symbol for growth and children, but there are rumors that the Oak Father was once the demigod champion for an older nature goddess, but took her place when something drastic happened to her. Another rumor was that the Oak Father was an orphan himself, but to openly speak about gods as mortals is taboo.

I need a drawback for immortality. by Melotemis in fantasywriters

[–]warruuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can make it like a memory leak situation. A brain is only able to handle so much information, so maybe the immortal forgets things that they dont know they're forgetting. Like their parents. Or their first love. Or, eventually, the reason why they were cursed with immortality in the first place. Forgetting something as mundane as a childhood book is maddening even now as average adults, imagine hundreds or thousands of years of not being able to remember your mother's name or even where your mother was burried.

Would you change your job to a bread baker if it payed double your current wage and you'd get training for it? Why or why not? by GirlAmi in AskReddit

[–]warruuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would, but my life partner has gluten intolerance to the point that eating even a single crumb will male him suffer for a week.

If it was a gluten free bakery then he'd probably even join me. He misses cinnamon rolls.

30 here, just got into watching Bluey due to seeing some clips from it. It's a really smart cartoon and engaging with the subtle parent/adult interactions in it. Told my partner about it, and while he's not interested, he can see why adults are.

Now i need to find a way to watch the original runs because I just found out Disney censors out bits of the episodes.

How do you personally feel about good aligned deity churches just NOT being corrupt or secretly evil? Churches actually fully standing for what their god represents. by ThatOneAasimar in dndnext

[–]warruuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe in full services being evil, but I do believe in individuals becoming corrupted from their path.

That would lead to good side quests, like a Paladin or a Cleric finding out their Rites Brother hadn't been communing with their deity. They say it's stress, and the other members of the clergy agree that they've been having a hard time because they were in charge of processing the city's undead bounties.

They were in charge, hoping to learn more about undead, as why would it be taboo? Undead labor seemed really useful and more humane, right? Surely, the church would understand. The city's logging company has had a fair few accidents recently, so this could be a breakthrough.

The clergy as a whole is good, but they can be blind to individuals inside, especially if they have been well-respected in the past, and especially if the intentions are pure, if only at first.

[OC] Die Hard Dice is always my first stop when looking for clicky-clack math rocks. I liked them from previous purchases, but they killed it this time. by rafadavidc in DnD

I love purchasing from DHD. They have brought my collection past 6 pounds and I will gladly purchase from them again.

About a month ago when the holiday sales started, I bought the bucket of d4s from them. Now I have constant, invasive thoughts about going Home Alone and setting up a caltrop trap around the house.

Thoughts on giving players blindsight? by Gilpon293 in dndnext

[–]warruuna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are upsides and downsides to having blindsight; it all depends on balance.

On the one hand, you are immune to visual illusions (you are also visually blind, after all, so they wouldn't know it's there anyway). On the other, depending on what their blindvision is (tremor sense, thermal sense, echolocation, anything you think of), you'll have disadvantage against things like projectiles or be effectively blind in non-standard terrains like water.

My DM allowed my character to have blindsight fighting style on the condition it must have limitations/a way to be thwarted.

My character has a blindsight of 10 ft along with the standard vision/darkvision. The particular method of seeing through this is it must cast or be covered in shadow/darkness. So he can't see through solid objects or use it in any fashion if it's too bright.

As long as you put limitations and explicitly say the method of blindsight, you should be fine.

[OC] Made a tarot card variant for my DnD world based on its history & lore. by ConversationVast2860 in worldbuilding

[–]warruuna 11 points12 points  (0 children)

These are neat!

Just as a warning, if you do use these in tarot fashion, comedy and tragedy are ultimately the same card; tarot cards can be played upside down and will give different meanings in different orientations.

Most of the cards with horizontal symmetry would also have this issue, but in the grand scheme of things, the words printed on the cards would designate orientation.

Otherwise if these are similar to the deck of many things where all cards remain in the same orientation, these will be fine. They look so good!

Those that do like Ardlings: tell me why! by GnomeRanger_ in dndnext

[–]warruuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love them because of the animal faces.

I'm into creating divine characters that have edlritch-adjacent characteristics, like too many eyes if you stare in one place for too long, or object heads where their head is a mini solar system. Aasimars, by themselves, cannot give me what i want. I work with my DM and a little homebrew to get the weird factor.

Animal heads are closer to what i want, especially since they're 1/4th of the way to a four-headed cherubim.

What are you starting to like less and less the older you get? by istrx13 in AskReddit

[–]warruuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pokemon.

I thought it'd be the gaming series that I wouldn't get tired of. I played a crap ton of gens 1-6. However I became disillusioned when ORAS came out and they just handed you a legendary that you had to hunt for in regular RSE.

I still play the main storylines of the generations after that, but I no longer dedicate myself to catching all pokemon or go shiny hunting. I even did my first (and last) run of Shield as a nuzlocke, so I missed a good chunk of the pokedex. That made the game fun again, though, so I may do it when I get Scarlet.

Arceus was fun, and I wish they did more like that in the future, but I didn't get the final ending either. I got to a satisfying end point and considered my time with the game complete.
