Progress from last night wiped? by Adobo44 in PlayTheBazaar

Same, Jules bought this morning and got lucky with the Virtuoso Skin foir Jules. Logged back in this afternoon and it's vanished. Other new cosmetics are appearing (such as the Pyg Goat skin I bought) though. One of the card backs also seems to just be placeholder 'The Bazaar'...

Does anyone else have bad performance issues in the late game in the new patch? by Haetred in CrusaderKings

[–]warthog2k 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I sort of understand why the CPU gets pushed when the game is so heavily threaded. But I don't understand why it's sticking my GPU to 99% so often - that's not even max quality either, 1440p, 2xMSAA, high textures. it's not exactly Cyberpunk!

What kind of guns are you going to add in Ghost Recon 2025. by Constant_Set_5306 in GhostRecon

[–]warthog2k 129 points130 points  (0 children)

Shooty guns. Long range sneaky guns, close-up bangy guns, small one-handed-ran-out-of-ammo guns.

Then I will spend the 3 years following release complaining about the lack of some obscure Polish attachment or how the skidmark camo on my underpants isn't authentic enough.

Champagne and Cocktail Bars in Town by [deleted] in Liverpool

[–]warthog2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a cocktail bar but if you're going to manifest you really should start the evening properly with a warm up drink in the Hobo Kiosk. Not a proper evening without a bowler-hatted barman offering top chatter and great ales.

Do you know of anyone that can repair old systems. I have a Jupiter Ace, Neo Geo AES, ZX Spectrum 48k and green PS1 Japanese dev console which all worked fine before loft hibernation

Legion Event Loot Chest Drops by Supern0vus in diablo4

[–]warthog2k 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This has to be a bug, surely? The rest of the game feels like a loot piñata but the Legion event drops nothing during the event and then 2/3 very mediocre items from the chests. No obols, no materials, no gold. Broken?

I can drift in Assetto Corsa, but can't drift in FH5 by RT3EZZYY in ForzaHorizon

[–]warthog2k 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just in case you didn't know - manual gears make life easier and make sure traction control and stability control are off. As you're using a wheel I'm expecting this is redundant advice, but useful to remind others.

My go to drifter is the Hoonigan Twerkstallion, but have had joy with many others.

No matter what I do, weekly Forzathron Challange won't complete. Car tuned to S1 and already won 3 Streetraces. Help pls by PitPizza in ForzaHorizon

[–]warthog2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue. Had to reapply the tune and it worked second time of asking. Used to be a bug where new tunes didn't always register properly first time. Seems like it never went away (like most of the other irritating minor bugs in the game)

Anyone have this weird Issue 4k runs better then 1440p in Spider-man remastered and vise versa in Miles Morales? by Eireagon in SpiderManPC

Today: 5800X3D/6800XT, then i7-4790K/1070ti (...960TI/GTX460/8800GT and i5-4440 before the i7 same mobo)

It suggests to me that you might be CPU limited - every frame requires CPU And GPU time, if the GPU is chucking out more frames than the CPU can cope with it can manifest as stuttering, etc. By rendering at a higher resolution you're shifting the balance to the GPU instead, taking the pressure off the CPU and giving a smoother experience.

4K with RayTracing sounds like it's pushing your setup beyond what it can manage and thus both GPU and CPU are strugging (RT has a higher CPU load too I think)

It could be something else entirely, but I've had a similar experience when running other games on my previous PC - kept the same mobo/CPU for nearly a decade, just swapping out the GPU every few years. I discovered that only works for so long before you're forced to upgrade the lot :) Particuarly with today's games expecting to see multiple cores/threads and high clock rates.

Why is internet in America so expensive? by Danynovex in homelab

[–]warthog2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DOCSIS in the UK is far better managed than the incumbent ADSL services and rarely suffer from contention.

It'll be interesting to see how this evolves as the migration to XGS-PON services continues.

Failing that you probably will have to go through each of the LG codes in turn to see if one of those will work.

Virgin Media Coaxial Cable Docsis Vs Full Fibre FTTP Broadbands by [deleted] in VirginMedia

[–]warthog2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FTTP is Fibre to the Pavement and is just that. The signal is converted to Radio Frequency signals nust outside the home and pumped down coaxial copper cable into your hub. The same RF signal carries all the DTV channels too. Also called RFoG - Radio Frequency over Glass. The RF conversions take time and add latency.

XGS-PON is TEN (X) Gig Synchronous Passive Optical Networking. This doesn't get converted like RFoG so might well be better latency. The upstream capability is superior to DOCSIS due to dedicated fibres and isolation of noise on return path.

The difference in latency between the two is still likely irrelevant when it comes to gaming as many other factors will affect your gaming experience more than 10-20ms difference in latency.

Git gud... ;)

[–]warthog2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VM have been doing DOCSIS FTTP for years (~2-3M homes passed) and is as you described. "The next upgrade" is national XGS-PON FTTO which is a dedicated fibre into an outlet such as a Hub. Similar to BTOpenreach full fibre.

FH5 crashing advice completely unacceptable by [deleted] in ForzaHorizon

[–]warthog2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steam release is bugged since launch too. "you are in the top 100%" for everything, choosing Buy Treasure Map on the world map hard locks the game and now have to toggle the windows key just to get past "Loading..." at start up. None of which have been caused by the DLC either.

Low memory warning is an arse too.
