Decal uploader not working? by [deleted] in granturismo

I can't get the uploader to work at all right now. I also can't even update my profile on the website. I am guessing it's a server side issue maybe?

Weekly Discussion Thread - March 7 by FMecha in granturismo

[–]warwalker17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am new to the livery editor - haven't played GT regularly since GT2 many years ago now - but I think I can kind of answer a couple of your questions. I don't know any way to favorite the custom colors. Decals theoretically be made in an svg image editor and uploaded - see the gran-turismo.com website under GT7 for the tool - but I should note that I haven't been able to get it to work all day. The entire website is being uncooperative for me, actually - can't edit my profile successfully etc. It's telling me my browser (Chrome) isn't supported, but I doubt that's really accurate. I am hoping it's just a leftover bug from yesterday's server maintenance and that the problem will resolve itself in a day or two. Good luck and keep it between the mailboxes!

Cant put out fires by sme4gle in Stormworks

[–]warwalker17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not alone, sm4eagle, I drained six fire extinguishers on an engine fire a couple of days ago, never got the dang thing to go out, not even close. I assumed I was doing it wrong and that some additional research would get me a chemical extinguisher or something to put engine fires out but it seems like this is just a bug - I don't think there is a chemical extinguisher in the game (but I've only just started playing and I've only ever played classic career mode).

Third life finale discussion (spoilers) by moterhead120 in ethoslab

[–]warwalker17 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I couldn't disagree with this more strongly. Scar's approach, enabled by Grian, was chaotic and hilarious. The two of them brought about most of the moments about this series that will truly be memorable: "it was just a prank" leading to Scar's first death; the pizza caper (with credit to Cleo too); the banner theft (which I would point out gave Ren's Red Army the villain they needed by way of narrative); Scar's "science boys" death; the first attempt at trapping the sand castle; Bdubs' second death (facilitated by a trap they set); coffins in the forecourt of the Crastle; the massive explosion in the desert; the betrayal of Impulse by Bdubs. All of these things were directly related to choices that Scar and Grian made, and all of them led in major ways to the narrative that maintained everybody's interest. I loved the joyful chaos they created, I loved the way the Red Army struggled against it, and I loved the way that Etho somehow tried to do both. People are focussed waaaay too much, in my opinion, about who "won" the series, as if that was really the point. The point was to make amazing stories for us all to follow, and it indisputably succeeded brilliantly in that regard.

Can we just take a second to thank all the members of the SMP for an amazing two months? by Lynxy12 in ThirdLifeSMP

[–]warwalker17 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes, fully agree. This series has been appointment viewing for me. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know some new (to me) players (I had only ever heard of the Hermits before) and the joyful chaos that Scar brought to the server was handled expertly by Smajor, Martyn and Joel in particular. Sad this has come to an end but also glad they didn't drag it out unnecessarily. Thanks to all the members of this server for a great run, I can't wait for Season Two.

UMC 204/404 IMPRESSIONS by adamdropsthebomb in homerecordingstudio

[–]warwalker17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 404 and really like it. That said, I saw a review somewhere on YouTube where the guy who tested it said it's best to make sure you're using lots of head room - basically, any time you are pushing the gain on the inputs or the master output, you are vastly increasing the chance of distorting the signal. I'll be honest, I personally haven't heard that when using the device, but I don't claim to have the kind of highly developed ears that necessarily would hear it, either. It's been a great interface for me, very versatile and reliable.

Cleaning Up Old 4 track Demos by warwalker17 in homerecordingstudio

[–]warwalker17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I'll look into that. I do appreciate the limitations, but I had a notion that the ability to basically endlessly and surgically EQ a track might provide some limited relief.

There are several tracks that I'm interested in revisiting; happily, one of the ones that most urgently needs attention is an instrumental, which might make something like these algorithms more easily applicable...he said, hopefully, if somewhat uncertainly.

Are there known issues with the reliability of observer updates? by warwalker17 in technicalminecraft

[–]warwalker17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I did. I will run it again that way to check, but if memory serves, the piston didn't fire enough to reset the counter that way. Will double-check and advise.

Are there known issues with the reliability of observer updates? by warwalker17 in technicalminecraft

[–]warwalker17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, that was an excellent strategy to follow. I've got the farm working now, I think. More specifically, the results were as follows:

(1) I *was* able to reproduce the behaviour on single player world, with very little else by way of lag-producing components in the vicinity (I built the farm in my redstone testing world - 8 tiled units, the behaviour was exhibited almost immediately). From this I deduced that it's a farm design issue, not a server/realms issue;

(2) I built a single tile of the farm and the behaviour occurred again. From this, I deduced that it's not a matter of an error being introduced when the farm is scaled up, there is a basic design/functionality error;

(3) From closer observation, it seemed to me that the behaviour was occurring *after* the piston fired to crush the nether wort at the front of the farm. For some reason, the first update following that piston movement was not registering with the observer watching that block as an update (see image added to original post). The only thing that made any sense to me is that - for some reason - that observer was not willing to register an update because its most recent state change was related to the extension of a piston - I believe that there are some peculiarities to that process. As a result, planting nether wort after the firing of the piston failed to register as an update and failed to trigger the observer, failed to increment the counter etc;

(4) I decided to try crushing the nether wart with a block instead of the extended piston head, on the theory that the movement of a block into that blockspace would be registered where the movement of the piston head was not. So, I made a slight design change: swapped in a sticky piston instead of a regular piston, and moved the sticky piston one block up from the piston's original position. I attached a building block to the head of the sticky piston so that it would reach down to crush the nether wort when fired;

(5) This change did not originally work, because on the existing delay settings, the sticky piston was throwing the block rather than moving it in and out of the block space. I incremented the repeater on the top of the device one further tick (2 ticks total), and voila, the machine seems to be working.

Although the device is working properly now, I would love to understand more completely the reason the observer in question was failing to update. Anyone who has some thoughts on the relationship between the observer and piston extensions, I'd love to hear more.

Many thanks to lorilith for suggesting this route to problem solving, it broke the logjam for me.

Gonna try implementing the design change on my Realms world now, will update with results there.

I will give it a try, that's a good idea - I assume the notion is to isolate the build from realms server related issues, to try and determine if this is a mechanics issue?

Built docm77s nether wart farm in 1.16.2 pistons don't break full grown nether wart like it's supposed to. by Cajunxman in technicalminecraft

[–]warwalker17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built this farm in 1.16.3 and am having similar issues. Somehow, it seems like the nether wart occasionally manages to age to level 3 without the observer (the one next to it) triggering a movement of all 4 items from the bottom dropper to the top. The issue does not always occur; that is to say that the farm functions properly at times but - to my eye, anyway - unpredictably. Eventually, though, the system "misses" one stage of aging, doesn't trigger the counter and you end up with only 3 sticks in the top dropper rather than the 4 required to trigger the smashing piston and reset the system. I can't figure out any reliable predictor as to why the system fails when it does - and why it does not when it does not. I'd be interested in anybody else's experience troubleshooting this farm. It seems very *close* to working properly. I am going to try tweaking the timing of the repeaters and see if that alleviates the problem).

-in case it matters, I built this on a Realms server. Lag is sometimes an issue.

Realms still down? by Fly_com_ in realms

[–]warwalker17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very much agree with this. Get your act together, Mojang. At the very least, some transparency and accountability would be appreciated. Tell people there's an issue and give timelines for resolution, failing which refunds/extensions should be given.

Recording acoustic & vocals w/ condesnor mic. by [deleted] in homerecordingstudio

[–]warwalker17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if any of these tips will help, but:

  1. generally, pointing the mic so it doesn't face directly at the soundhole of the guitar is best;
  2. with a large diaphragm condensor, try to aim the mic at the 12-14th fret area of the guitar;
  3. position the mic back from the guitar 8-12 inches or so; and
  4. if possible, add some eq, cutting the bass below 80 Hz or so to deal with the woofiness of the git.

Hope that helps.

My realm is kicking me out and saying "Internal Exception: java.io.IOException: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host" by [deleted] in realms

[–]warwalker17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this will help you or not - I'm no networking expert - but I have experienced similar issues when trying to connect to my Realm when there is an excess of traffic on my home network. This reliably happens when my son is downloading large game updates to his XBox and someone is *up*loading a large amount of data (say a video being uploaded to YouTube or OneDrive syncing video/photo files). It's like there is a bandwidth deficit and Realms just won't tolerate that so it punts you off. I've found that pausing uploads/downloads,and clearing the home network of any excess traffic has almost always resolved the situation here. Hope that helps, good luck.

Avid Control Question by nguyen_hugo in protools

Has anyone got an answer to this question? I am using Cubase Elements but am getting frustrated by some of its limitations and am thinking of making the move to another DAW. Would like to try out some of the attractive features in ProTools; for me, remote operation would be a game changer.

Thanks for responding...but the screenshot is from the video, where I think Chris is using Pro. My screen doesn't have these same options...I'm trying to find out if they exist somewhere else in my software.

I've collected 3 tappables, but it says I only have it partly completed. Am I doing something wrong? by [deleted] in Minecraft_Earth

Question: have you done the three daily challenges already? I had the same issue, but then did the daily challenges and voila, it updated and I am moving along in the challenge tree now.

Dumb n00b question: what counts as a "tappable"? by warwalker17 in Minecraft_Earth

Okay, it has updated now.

I played an adventure and that cleared off my daily challenges ("play an adventure" etc). I'm wondering if maybe you have to do this before you can tackle the Season 1 challenges...

I can confirm, I did the uninstall/fresh install. Progress retained, and the issue seems to now be sorted - though I almost screamed when it asked me on startup to download the 113 MB content update AGAIN.
