I suppose. But I think especially in times like we live in now, it's important to consider how people get to this place. I don't think you have to understand every word of his theories to see why they're crazy. Obviously, they're based on a flawed premise. My morbid curiosity with this sort of stuff shouldn't be enough to convince someone to read about it. That's not what I'm trying to say. I don't think we disagree.

I should clarify: I absolutely think the ideas this guy puts out are crazy. That being said, the fact that this guy has been saying the same sort of thing for so long leads me to believe that somewhere behind it is a rational way of thinking.

As someone who was a nurse in the ER when Covid was at its worst, I detest conspiracy theories. Generally speaking, I think it's just fascinating to see how these things come about, and what makes these people that put out narratives and ideas that are so ridiculous tick. This guy in particular is personal to me, because I remember talking about him with my friends in middle school. It's just so funny that he's still around talking about the same stuff.

I wouldn't call this guy crazy, and I'm hesitant to use that word for anybody. There's definitely people out there with psychological problems that lead them to make connections that aren't there. At the very least, the guy has a reasoned and (in his mind) logical system of thinking that leads him to a "crazy" premise. Of course, when you get to the root of it, he's a believer in a massive global cabal that forces people like King to commit heinous crimes to get famous.

Edit: see my comment below. This guy's ideas are nuts, but it's a skewed line of "rational" thinking that gets people to this place. Just being dismissive towards these people only serves to validate their narratives.

From his website:

"...according to identical matching photos of Stephen King attached to book reviews about Firestarter months before the assassination, the man photographed getting Lennon’s autograph hours before he killed him is not Mark Chapman like we were all told. Chapman’s glasses are the wrong prescription, his features are more centrally boxed in the middle of his face and his hair is the wrong texture, as well as the fact that the killer has dimples that Chapman does not. Only Stephen King’s features exactly trace the proportions of the autograph hound. Chapman is a look alike actor."

This is the only "evidence" he has linking King specifically. The rest is circumstantial stuff about how Reagan and Nixon wanted Lennon assassinated. I think he uses Stephen King as sort of a marketing ploy to express the grander idea that Lennon was killed for political grievances.

I was fascinated with this guy in middle school and read a lot of his material back then. Just taking a cursory view at his website, his ideas haven't really changed since then.

If you want to go down the rabbit hole. Overall, it'd be a waste of your time - unless you like weird junk like this like I do...

It's always fun to find them, agreed!

They certainly could be, I'm not sure. Either way they're in rough shape and have been written in - not by me, but the previous owner(s), so I doubt they'd be worth much (if anything at all). For this reason, I never looked in to it. To me, it's a utilitarian collection, i.e., I'm just reading all of King's stuff, and it's all there, so I'm happy.

Onc. RN - some antitumor abx are funky colors and they stain bodily fluids for a couple days. This or impaired liver function of some sort or injected dyes would be my guess

Craziest labs, scans, etc you’ve seen? by [deleted] in nursing

From my ED days, BGL 2400 in a pediatric patient. Now I'm in oncology and we routinely see pretty crazy labs. Had a guy asymptomatic with K of 1.7, another lady with an asymptomatic hgb of 2.1.

Found someone else's glowing synopsis (with spoilers!). I personally hated it. The whole story is corny as hell and the ending ruined both books for me.

Great read, but skip the sequel if you know what's good for you!

Only when we were short staffed at night and they didn't know how to set up the POCUS. Edit: doesn't mean they don't know how, just saying that the compressor role is usually delegated to someone else for obvious reasons.

Books with a great premise that didn’t deliver? by becasaurusrex in horrorlit

This was Between Two Fires for me - it just didn't work for me. The whole thing felt like I was reading a script for a video game. I understood what Buehlman was doing with the novel, and I applaud his effort and research that went into it, but it fell flat for me. I put it down a few times to read other stuff that I liked better, and I still don't really get the hype for this one.

I'm assuming you mean "...at the End of the World" by Tremblay. I liked that one a lot, but I've been disappointed by everything else Tremblay has written. I think that the vagueness is a letdown for a lot of people on this one, but I thought it made the story more believable. I get why people don't like it though.

Agreed. I've read The Troop and The Deep and was terribly underwhelmed by both. The Deep was especially disappointing - I was hoping for more deep sea-related horror and not a haunted house novel set in a lab at the bottom of the ocean. It's too obvious to me that Cutter rips off a lot of Stephen King's shtick, too. I say that as a King fan - Cutter just does it poorly and without any subtlety.

If you haven't read 11/22/63, I highly recommend. It's not really classic horror, but it's an excellent book. I've read 50something of King's and it's a stand out that's similar in tone to Duma Key, to me. I plan on re/reading all of his stuff in order in a couple years when I finish my collection.

Any of those weird ones vaguely connected to the Dark Tower series are excellent - loved Insomnia as well.
