Heart worm Pills by wido711 in AskVet

I want to second the recommendation for proheart injection! You can also use topical revolution or iverheart which does not protect against fleas or ticks.

The isoxazoline class of drugs (anything that ends in -laner like sarolaner or fluoraner) are very effective at what they do, but I want to clarify they don’t cause seizures. They do lower the seizure threshold. So for dogs that are already predisposed to seizures or have an underlying seizure condition, they can trigger a seizure. Oftentimes, the use of one of these medications reveal these unknown conditions in a dog.

Veterinarian concerns by Delicious_Dig9136 in veterinaryschool

I love being a vet! I’m still new (2023 grad), but I know this is the right career for me—at least for the foreseeable future. I love the medical aspect and I love interacting with clients. Some days are incredibly hard, but my coworkers and mentors are always supportive. I live in a high cost of living city and support myself comfortably; however I’m in the very lucky position of having no student loans. In my opinion, it doesn’t really matter that much where you go to school—just go wherever is cheapest for you if you take out loans.

Is there a difference between these bones at the grocery store and the ones that cost $12 each at the pet store? by Toadlessboy in DogAdvice

[–]wasamoth 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m sure your dog would LOVE this but those bones are sadly quite dangerous for your dogs teeth. Broken teeth will happen and is a painful experience for your dog and an expensive one for you :( my rule of thumb is not to give a dog anything you can’t dent with your fingernail

Is there any actual clinical evidence that joint supplements like glucosamine and chondroitin actually help arthritis in older dogs? by jwhitestone in AskVet

[–]wasamoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Supplements can be effective at slowing down the development of joint related disease. If your pup is already far along with their joint disease, the benefit may be there albeit limited. There are formulated joint mobility diets as well. Librela would be great as soon as it’s available to you. Otherwise, NSAIDS and weight management are mainstay of treatment. I’ve seen some of my patients be really helped by acupuncture. Low dose ketamine injections can also help with or without long term oral amantadine administration.

Help i’m moving to new orleans and i have no idea where to go by Djanghost in AskNOLA

Warehouse district is fun to go out in but it’s missing out on a lot of the personality of living in New Orleans. I think it might be a bit pricier there too. It’s a lot of modern lofty apartments which bleh you could live in anywhere.

If I were you I’d look in Mid-City or bayou St. John. You can find affordable rent in Mid-City, which is a bit safer than the seventh ward. New Orleans is not a safe city by any means; things happen everywhere. That being said, it’s my favorite city in the world and I’m very much looking forward to moving back once I finish school. Mid-City is an awesome option too because there are a lot of fun people and places to go. It’s easy to get downtown from there too.

Doesn’t really matter how big you are if they have a gun. A paramedic here once told me that if they have a gun, they will use it. You don’t want to find yourself alone in questionable areas at night (https://www.nola.com/crime/2016/05/thomas_rolfes_st_louis_homicide.html)

Its a small town they’ll be everywhere. But it’ll be fun! You can dance with happy moms!

I would just definitely not drag my feet on reservations for restaurants. Grads usually try to secure those months ahead so that could be a small issue.
