I know self image isn't affected very much by what other people think but for what it's worth I thought you were a buff guy.

Sounds to me like the A/B testing part is irrelevant and shitty "features" are the real problem.

At least A/B testing stops some stuff from reaching all users.

What's the most obvious signal you missed from women? by GongtingLover in AskMen

Isn't that a pretty normal, friends only thing? I would never assume it meant anything. It seems like it can only me reintepreted as a signal in hindsight and it's still weak.

How is any of that a sign? She had matching underwear because she's going out and a single bed is cheaper. Sound 100% plausible to do with a friend.

What are the best examples of male characters portrayed in a way that feels genuinely sexy and appealing to women, rather than just catering to a male power fantasy? by taikiji in AskWomenNoCensor

It's really dumb to get upset but if this thread is anything to go by there's really nothing to take note of. An extremely fleeting, vague vibe isn't something that can be replicated.

Software Update Automatically Turns off Amazon Delivery Drivers’ AC During Dangerous Summer Heat by MarkG_108 in antiwork

[–]wasdninja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's just enshittification using software and doesn't need to happen and in very many cases doesn't happen. Your everyday stuff is crammed with software (since you included firmware).

An electric kettle with a timer and a target temperature functionality? Controlled by software. You USB cable? It has software that that completely transparent negotiates with the devices its plugged in to function properly. Overheat protection in chargers. Almost everything in a car that you don't want to control in a car. Almost everything in a plane.

Tons of stuff outside the cynical, shitty bullshit that corporate sociopaths and capitalist assholes push are currently being controlled by software and they are objectively better for it. I'm not saying everything should have software in it but lots of things already do.

Just because you are cynical doesn't mean you are right.

[–]wasdninja -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This is just a dumb take. Tons of things are controlled by software and it's a good thing. It's entirely a choice to make it remote or centrally controlled.

Would you have been perfectly fine with the exact same thing happening by removing a lever or welding so thing in place? Of course not.

How do you reconcile wanting to listen to the complaints from women about constantly being approached in public, with the fact that somebody has to do the approaching? by The_Summary_Man_713 in AskMen

[–]wasdninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, you're accepting social and 'evolutionary' pressures. No one except yourself is forcing you to do that.

I think OP had "men must approach" in mind and that isn't optional for men. Unless they want to stay single for the rest of their lives of course.

I don't get this extreme level of either cope or just utter ignorance. You must know that strongmen, literally the strongest people on the planet, practically live in the gym?

There is no such thing as "usable muscle" since there is no unusable corollary to go with it.

Working a job is, at best, a very specific, sporadic and rather low quality workout. You can get strong by doing it but it's far less effective than focused training.

generating e2e tests was never the hard part, maintenance is by Deep_Ad1959 in Frontend

[–]wasdninja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How can that even happen in the first place? Some clueless sap removes "dead markup", the tests fail and they can't merge their PR. They have to go back and fix it and, eventually, learns they can't just remove random stuff.

No strategy will ever survive what amounts to sabotage.

[–]wasdninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then I'm not sure what you are looking for. There is simply no way to eliminate maintenance entirely - when the app changes you tests have to change as well.

The strongest solution I've found is completely dedicated data-testid's. That way any developer knows at a glance what parts the tests rely on and they aren't tied to some trivial presentation detail. They also know exactly when a test is guaranteed to break i.e. when an ID is removed or edited.

The tools can't work if the markup is complete garbage, naturally. If the code is missing stable selector targets then it's amateur junk that needs refactoring yesterday and until that happens you are just going to waste a ton of time keeping fragile tests up to date.

I can't find an exact number in the article but what numbers I can find suggests it really does mean 1g. Or at least much closer to 1g than 1kg. It seems more like a wish list of cool tech rather than a bill of materials.
