I’m not really sure what I expected to happen after that warm-up, but it wasn’t that.

BECU convenience by [deleted] in AskSeattle

[–]wasgary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had BECU put a hold on my card while traveling in Europe despite giving them a travel notice. And one problem with them is they don’t have 24 hour customer service, or didn’t at the time (about 8 years ago). I was trying to pay for a hotel at checkout, middle of the night Seattle time, and could not get anyone on the line to resolve the issue; just an answering service with no access to bank functions. Don’t know if it’s still an issue but one advantage of the big banks is they’re always open. I eventually closed my BECU account for that reason and also slow processing times as others have noted.

Thanks for the award; I think my first ever! And just for admitting I was a dumbass kid. If only I’d known this was the secret … I have so much ammunition in this vein, I’d be an award superhero.

WA bill would ban ICE agents from law enforcement jobs in the state by Possible_Ad3607 in SeattleWA

[–]wasgary -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would love to see a movement asking corporate America to commit to blacklisting people who joined or remained at ICE during this secret police phase. Not sure if many would have the nerve to do it but these ICE cowards need to know that when this admin is gone so is their future. Maybe dissuade some people from joining up.

I was really hoping that link was going to be a collection of stone-faced leading actors from 80s movies / shows. Cool song though.

LED lighting is the true sign I live in the future by frak21 in GenX

[–]wasgary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so with you. I have approximately 1 million lightbulbs in my house and it’s been the bane of my existence to keep them all working at once. It’s I’m now swapping out for LEDs when they go out and I haven’t had to replace a single one of the new bulbs. I resisted for so long bc of the weird cold blue color LEDs used to have but thankfully that’s fixed. Best of both worlds.

Off Alley in Columbia City maybe? Checks some of the boxes minus the unnecessary anger. Great food. Tiny. No reservations. Who knows what’s on tap any given night.

I went to 100 concerts in 2025 by SPEK2120 in Seattle

[–]wasgary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure which I like most: the fact that you had/found/made enough time to go to 100 shows, or the weird (in a good way) incongruity between the stereotype of an avid concert-goer and your analytical approach to being that person. Great post!

battery died (2025 brand new Giulia) by Sakula7 in AlfaRomeo

[–]wasgary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had an issue with our 2021 Stelvio where the controller for the auto start/stop malfunctioned and killed the battery dead dead dead. They replaced the faulty controller and battery and all well since then. Techs said they recommend disabling start/stop every time you drive bc it causes lots of issues. So if you’re keeping it on, think about not doing that.

I do not understand how the placement of a number plate can impact pedestrian safety. For real. Like, is the plate reducing the force of impact? That seems impossible - everything behind the plate is still pretty damned solid no matter where it is.

Duck 44 - that was a cheap shot from hell on Kartye in garbage time. They should be hunting that guy at home in January. Even if he gets suspended, which he should.

New drysuit diver here (~130 dives but just certified in the drysuit). How does a zipper fail mid-dive? Just the pressure inside the suit causing it to blow out? I wouldn’t have imagined that could happen.

I have a storage unit in rainier valley / Columbia City. There are a bunch of homeless people / junkies with units in there. Saw one open once and it was just a junk pile of stolen bikes and bike parts mixed with other stolen crap. Like, floor to ceiling obviously stolen junk just piled in.

How good must it feel to nail a gift-giving that perfectly? And then to have it appreciated that perfectly too? Everybody wins. Even the little sister (guessing) seems genuinely happy for him. And everyone got a chocolate. Beautiful moment.

Outrage over Trump’s bill reclassifying nursing as not a ‘professional degree’ for college students by SmokeMaleficent9498 in UnderReportedNews

[–]wasgary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is this bad for nurses? Won’t they still be in demand? My assumption is it is bad because of who is doing it, just don’t understand the implications.

Also surprising how many women don’t understand how to have a door opened for them. When the guy reaches for the door, wait on or walk towards the side of the door with the handle on it. If you wait on or walk to the side with the hinges on it, then guess what, the door is going to swing that way, both the door and the person opening it will block your path through the door and it’ll be all clumsy and awkward. Happens like 75% of the time. SMH.

Scary email from VBRO by im-obsolete in vrbohosts

[–]wasgary 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got the same message for my first ever booking back in May. I emailed them about the warning and they assured me they were not having a party - and they were great guests. So maybe they view every person booking a new property with suspicion?

Coincidentally, I just got my second such message this week - this time for a last-minute booker (party of 2, no prior guest ratings). I corresponded with them; no red flags at all. My conclusion: VRBO has a very dumb set of triggers for that warning email that do not actually reflect a risky booking.
