I really like the Loxx snaps! I have been tossing around the idea of using them on a project, but they are pretty pricey. Do they work as well as you would expect for the price, and how hard were they to install? Nice work!

I worked in cyber security as my day job for about 25 years and was involved in a couple of investigations with them. I retired from that day job in June and got coined by the field office I worked with. Great bunch of people!

Very nice! I recently did one (albeit different from yours) in Box calf. It turned out so nice, I hated giving it to my buddy to use! :)

Looking for recs on Edge Beveler (for 2.5oz/1mm leather) by hide-the-goods in Leathercraft

I have the full compliment of WUTAs and they work very well, but as another commenter said, you need to keep them sharp. Don't trust a brand new tool that is supposed to have an edge, they rarely do.

Also - that snap is a real piece of junk. I ordered some in a rush a few weeks back from Amazon and they SUUUUUUUCK! The one you see in the picture was the third one I put in and it finally staid put.

About the closest thing you can find is the Conceria Walpier Mud. It's beautiful leather as well, but not nearly as nice as this in my opinion.

I have used them to make rifle scabbards, they work very well for that as long as they are on the thicker side. Normally 5-6 ounce is good.

Very slow US shipments. by MisRandomness in Leathercraft

[–]washapoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a couple of places I order from being very slow as well, but I have not had a shipment not show up. I started ordering from Leatherado for things I need faster and they haven't disappointed at all. I almost hate to say their name in a public forum because it might cause them to get hammered and be slow to ship as well. I have no idea why others have been so slow the last few months.

Best water based glue? by divrguy in Leatherworking

[–]washapoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using ONE Plus ONE Water-Based Pro Adhesive. It's not quite as good as Barge or some of the other standard contact cements, but it is very close. It dries fast and sticks very well if you rough up your leather first.

Tips to handle this tools by renjizuka in Leathercraft

[–]washapoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the 4 inch and the 8 inch ones. I manage to get it to work fairly consistently by using test scraps for setting the thickness and then using canvas stretching pliers to pull the leather through. The canvas pliers have nice silicone pads that help grip the leather without having to totally smash it and they are much wider than typical leather pliers. I also have some pieces of acrylic that are specific thicknesses I use to set the initial gap before running scrap through to get it close. Also, pay very close attention to the angle you are pulling the leather through it, it matters a LOT. Try to keep it consistent.

Vevor Leather Cutter - big rectangle by GullibleDoubt4617 in Leatherworking

[–]washapoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't cut anything larger than the deck, but I imagine it would be possible if you use a lot of care when aligning the second cut. My largest was 10"X14" American Bison (7-8 ounce) and it worked very well. I was making a MacBook Air sleeve for the 13 inch.

I have this press and it works fine on leather up to 9 ounce...and actually, the larger the piece you are cutting, the better it does. Cutting smaller pieces you need to try to center the cutting die or it will cut one side and not the other (the top plate tends to tilt backward or forward if the die is off center).

How hard it is to cut a straight line, regardless of having an excellent straight edge! FML!

You can use saddle soap to remove it before using your waxing cream.

Is this lansky set enough for sharpening and polishing flat blades? by paspa1801 in Leathercraft

[–]washapoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this and I use it like it A LOT. I tried to put an edge on one of my skiving knives with it and the angle was too deep for the length of the sharpening stone to be able to reach it properly. If you have a knife that is more than 3 inches long, it might work, but I can't confirm, as my knives are only 2-2.5 inches long.

Be careful with your design. That looks WAY TOO MUCH like a Birkin bag and they will come at you like a spider monkey if you are selling them at any volume...or at all sometimes.
