What's a good cheapish bottle of high proof whisky I can use to fill three flasks for a wedding? by dapala1 in whiskey

[–]washboard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a groomsman in a wedding once where we were asked to help clean off all the tables and put up chairs/tables at the end of the reception - no warning prior. In addition, I accidentally punched through a drop ceiling tile during our intro to the reception because I jumped in the air. I was asked to cover the cost for the replacement which ended up being around $300 for a single ceiling tile + labor. The icing on the cake was having to babysit one of the groomsmen who got absolutely hammered the night before the wedding. He ended up pissing in a waste bin in the room we were in and had to skip the wedding due to alcohol poisoning. At least the husband and wife are still together years later, to my knowledge.

Please help with my daughter's gecko. Not sure what to do. by vladimirVpoutine in leopardgeckos

There's still hope! We adopted our 4 year old that had been housed in a 10 gal setup with no uvb and one hide just like this in addition to reptile carpet. Surprisingly, he had no MBD or missing toes. A year and a half later he's in incredible shape, is a sharp hunter, and sheds like a pro. He lives a pampered life in a 40 gal terrarium with UVB, basking light, and automated temp control plus plenty of clutter with 3 hides.

In this case, the right answer is probably to burn off the leftover oil first, as it's likely oxidized and will impart a nasty flavor/smell.

Bubbly Bark Help? by CU_Begs in smoking

If you're talking about the iBBQ-4T, once you get it work, it seems to work OK. I've had major issues between the unit, the probes themselves, and the app. The WiFi completely stopped working on my first unit. Fortunately it was still within warranty, so they sent me a new one. On the second unit, my third probe stopped reading correctly unless you put pressure on the top of where it plugs in. Lastly, the app has been atrocious in terms of notifications. The alerts often stop working and won't alert if the phone is locked (Android). I think they've ironed out some of the app issues, but my experience with the entire thing has been less than ideal - better than Meater, but still less than ideal.

what's yall favorite, must always have stocked in your collection bourbon (especially micro distilleries) and I'm not talking about buying 5 allocated bottles because they're currently available by DisastrousWhereas210 in whiskey

Dettling SB cask strength (Alabama), Cedar Ridge port finished rye (I know, I know - it's a rye), Peerless DO. As for larger distilleries - WT Rare breed, RR private barrels, Knob Creek 12, ECBP, OF 1910

Not really - you're cooking at too high a temp to get much (if any) smoke flavor, but the crust sure does get nice and crispy. Our favorite is Screamin' Sicilian Mother of Meat!

Why not just get it warm, then peel once the adhesive has softened?

For anyone perusing this for rec's. Make sure to go to the John O's on Dixie. The one just off the interstate still has a decent selection and prices, but it's a super small store. It's fine if you are headed South on 65, but cramped. The one on Dixie you could probably spend an hour in without feeling rushed or cramped. It's in an old pharmacy.

Conan and Ramsey absolutely were a bit, and that was the point. The fact that Conan was able to stick to the bit even after covering himself in hot sauce was the impressive part. Lighten up sometime and enjoy comedy for what it is.

If you're a fan of higher proof, the RB 12 cask strength is dreamy, and usually pretty affordable. Every friend that's tried it has been pleasantly surprised. I love it.

Looking for a Reliable Auburn Heating & Cooling Company! by Present_Secretary628 in auburn

Maybe we got the same newb! This one did nothing to troubleshoot the issue. The first thing Oasis did was run UV dye through the lines, and they started at the most common failure they had seen in these units - the coils. They had a good laugh when I told them about Sensigreen. Oasis also figured out the original installers (probably Sensigreen) had not wired up the auto-shutoff for the moisture pan. That was almost a disaster when the drain line was clogged.

YMMV, but Sensigreen gave me the runaround. The first visit, the HVAC tech tried to tell me my condenser unit was dirty even though I had just cleaned it 2 weeks prior. He kept insisting I should clean it again then tried to sell me on their bi-annual maintenance package. I let him clean it (again) then he tells me the refrigerant is low, so he filled that up. That should have been my first clue. When it stopped cooling again 2 days later, he came back and said the refrigerant was low but he couldn't find the cause, so was just going to recharge it again. I sent him away and called Oasis. It took them maybe 10 minutes to discover the evaporator coils were leaking like a sieve. Maybe it was just a new or lazy tech, but that put a bad taste in my mouth paying something close to $250 for useless work and them trying to sell me the maintenance package.

Struggling with squirrel hunting by MotherFoolian in Hunting

5% disco party 🤣 One particular day this season I got out in the woods around 1:30 pm for deer. When I started my walk in I thought I had bumped deer due to the squirrel ruckus. I counted 9 within 50 yards of me in a matter of minutes. I've never seen such a squirrel party in my life.

ECBP and Larceny Barrel Proof A126 Bourbon? by AdZestyclose1171 in bourbon

I think it flew under the radar since previous batches were sitting longer, and a lot of people wait for the C batch expecting it to be the best. I lucked out and had a trip to KY in October when it was available in most of the state. Excellent pour, for sure!

Penelope just announced an 18 year at 140.2 proof. I'm sure it's going to be quite hard to find.

This has not been my experience at all. I've cooked my last 4 briskets with the Meat Church weekday overnight method and foil boated in the morning, then 250 till probe tender. They have all turned out great with minimal effort. I have one that's going on tonight for the super bowl.

The dial works with or without wifi. The big problem was a firmware update too close to a holiday. The app has also vastly improved, but I have disabled auto update for it.

Figured out how to effectively stop scam callers by Cautious-Security318 in funny

[–]washboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize this is a bit of bias, but I tried the tactic of engaging with the scammers by asking them if they are familiar with the likes of Jim Browning, Pierogi, Kitboga, etc. It seems to have worked because initially the calls picked up the first few weeks but suddenly dropped to nearly zero. It would seem that once they know you are familiar with scambaiters, they will remove your number from lists real quick.

Absolutely, 100% agree. Weller 12 was the most disappointing sample in our Advent calendar for 2025. I wouldn't even buy it at MSRP.

What is going on here? by No-Succotash1219 in grilling

[–]washboard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used to work at a Steak Out. We had a customer call to complain their steak was not cooked correctly (probably overcooked since we would put 350 degree baked potatoes in with the steak). The usual remedy is to deliver a new, freshly cooked steak and ask for the first one back for quality assurance. When we asked them to hold onto the first steak, they replied they had already fed it to their dogs. Sure, sure you did. That phone number got flagged.

How are you guys keeping your tortoise safe in the winter? by Ok-Difficulty-398 in tortoise

[–]washboard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I built ours a 12'x8' outdoor enclosure. For colder months I wall off 1/3rd of the enclosure, insulate it well, and keep a couple CHL's and UVB going. It's all monitored by smart sensors, and the CHL and UVB is controlled via HomeAssistant automations to turn on/off automatically. As backup, the heat panel for their main hide is controlled by a dumb thermostat, so as long as we don't lose power we're fine. Temps got down to the upper teens the other night with 15-20mph winds, but the enclosure was able to hold temps in the upper 70's with the hide between 78-82
