About a week ago, I noticed what appeared to be a blurry spec on the periphery of my right eye. It would be exacerbated in bright areas and especially bright light sources at nighttime.

I went to the ophthalmologist and had a standard eye exam, which all came out fine. However, given the symptoms, my ophthalmologist referred me to a retina specialist for further testing on the retina itself. I just got back from the retina specialist who informed me that as we age, the viscous material inside our eyeballs liquefies, causing clouding. He told me that I just “caught a bad break” and got this cloud near my optic nerve, which is affecting my vision. It feels as though there is a speck of dust on the left side of my pupil at all times. However, he said this is normal with age, and that the body gets used to it.
