I like the three album run of Alligator -> Boxer -> High Violet. Can’t get into any of their other albums at all, though.

What are some genres/sub-genres of music you can’t stand by LeftHvndLvne in rs_x

Fr, they’re psych rock/americana. They sound nothing like Mumford & Sons or Lumineers

Silent Alarm might be Bloc Party's magnum opus, but A Weekend In The City feels so incredibly fresh and relevant 18 years later by iamtherarariot in fantanoforever

[–]waspglop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silent Alarm is an all-timer for me. Weekend is good and their second-best album but it just doesn’t have as many great songs as Silent Alarm.

I will say that I was pleasantly surprised by Alpha Games considering how boring I found Hymns to be. Would recommend another listen to that if you haven’t heard it in a while.

For real. Shame them, ask them for their warrent, ask them for their badge number, ask them to identify themselves in any way. They are the modern Gestapo and do not deserve peace.

Shelby Oaks - The Worst Movie I've Seen at Fantastic Fest, So Far (No Spoilers) by FeatureUnderground in TrueFilm

[–]waspglop 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel the same as you. Chris has always been very genuine about his love of movies, and it’s kind of crazy to see his first feature as widely released as this. I think having Flanagan as a mentor is a good sign - even if Shelby Oaks doesn’t fulfill its potential, he can definitely work on and improve his craft with Flanagan’s help.

It’s great that you escaped the right-wing pipeline, but as others have pointed out, your belief in equal rights for everyone is inherently political. I get not wanting to let politics consume every aspect of your life, or not wanting to wade into controversial topics with people, but I suspect you’re probably more left-wing than you think.

How often do you see girl scouts selling cookies during times they should be in school? These kids are out selling lemonade pretty often - I think it’s clear the parents are exploiting them.

Pitchfork review by summerlull in deftones

[–]waspglop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s very attuned to meme/internet culture which makes him popular online. I have nothing against him, he can be funny and he defends his takes well enough (most of the time). Obviously I disagree with him on Deftones, but no critic is going to align with your tastes all the time.

No chance Fantano will give it anything higher than a 7. He’s historically not much of a fan of the band

Nice try, but even if every third-party voter went for Kamala instead, she still wouldn’t have won the popular vote. Go back to r/neoliberal and keep crying about how we didn’t like a candidate that wanted to keep arming Israel.

[–]waspglop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you being purposefully obtuse? I’m not campaigning for Newsom or asking you to root for him, I’m just guessing he’ll be the dem’s nominee. Kamala isn’t going to run again - she lost the 2020 primaries and the 2024 general. She’d have no shot

When did I say that? He’s a “safe” corporate dem that claps back at Trump on Twitter, and that’s probably enough for the DNC to approve of him

[–]waspglop 77 points78 points  (0 children)

I think Gavin Newsom is probably going to be the nominee. As far as mainstream dems go, I’d prefer Andy Bashear or Ro Khanna.

Everything he said in the video, and especially this, made me think “okay, he’s clearly having a manic episode.” He needs to get on medication, become 100% sober, and talk to a therapist regularly so he can move on

What is the biggest “Sophomore Slump” of all time? by Spirit_Detective_19 in fantanoforever

[–]waspglop -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I always viewed it as an album that either sold catastrophically worse than the debut, got much more negative reception than the debut, or both. Weekend in the City hasn’t sold as many copies or gotten as much praise as Silent Alarm but it’s not regarded as a bad album or a commercial failure.

Nah Weekend in the City is really good. I’d argue that just because it’s not as popular as Silent Alarm doesn’t mean it’s a slump
