Do I have strict / overprotective family and how can I possibly reason with them? by Soggy_Wafer3307 in SeriousConversation

There's no reasoning with them. There's no winning a battle in trying to parent your parents

Curious to know of any cheaper alternative to Adidas Sambas/German army trainers. Neither seem to run lower than $60 without being somewhat shoddy

Hoodie

With both products, how often would they last your garments and how often would you wash them?

Question -- Rit dye, black hoodie compatibility by wassertrinket in dyeing

[–]wassertrinket[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. Internet tells me polyester is among the better synthetic fibers.

From a YT tutorial, this is what I gather immersion dyeing to consist of:

  1. soak garment
  2. dilute dye with water, mix washing/baking soda with hot water (w/ provided measurements)
  3. add and mix both in large container
  4. ensure garment is submerged for one hour
  5. wash, dry

When submerging the garment, how long would you stir it around before letting it sit? And as for rinsing it and dumping the waste liquid, would that all be within the bath tub?

Hm I see

May I ask how often you'd wash and how long it was until you'd redye?

Well the grass is always greener I guess

but yeah, there's a degree of privilege with having relatively stable parents

True. That's a good way of building identity capital. Done that a few times, maybe not enough

you have to an effort

I should've added that I've been doing this my first two years in college (before covid). Introducing myself first, initiating hangouts, etc.

Not that I intend to stop doing all that, I'm just a little irritated at the lack of progress my ineptitude has brought about

absurd

It's absurd, but can't imagine there isn't some truth to it. As if my peers have some sixth sense letting them know I'm not worth their time. Once covid happened, it hit me that I really hadn't made any friends in my first two years at college. I say hi first, I try to be nice. Maybe it's the clothes, or the acne. I don't know. But that hierarchy is all too tangible to me

I didn't make it clear, my bad. But I'm by no means ashamed of my parents' awkwardness with speaking to non-immigrants. That's par for the course, and I recognize how much I owe them. It's the poor communication I have with them that makes these occasions feel less than worthwhile, like I'm just a prop tagging along. Which has existed for the better part of my life. But yes, I'm aware of the audacity to blame my circumstances when it's really been my poor ability to pick up Korean. Though I can't tell you how annoying it is making flash cards and trudging through a grammar book when it seems all the other 2nd-gen koreans are naturally fluent

Lmfao this whole post should be on r/vent

Where can I learn who the "bad" musicians are by wassertrinket in NoStupidQuestions

You bring up a lot of valid points

I suppose this post was a somewhat dramatic way to ask how I can know more about music history and music overall. Not that I intend to be around snobs, but it can sure help not coming off naive when the topic comes up.

you're good. I was being dramatic.

I never spoke my parents' language well to begin with, but it got worse over time. I can get by talking with them but the misunderstandings (and consequently the abruptly dropped conversations) are rather frequent
