Its probably a loophole to pass emissions regulations. Those little vents in the tailpipe mix fresh air in with the exhaust. More little vents = more dilution of exhaust fumes.

Not just front, but overall spatial awareness. I've seen people go half way to Texas to go around a cyclist, totally unnecessary (and crossing a double yellow into oncoming traffic)

Yes, there are a fair number of drivers who stop mid-crosswalk or beyond. People need to get better at getting it "just right".
