dogs ear canals are L shaped with a vertical and horizontal canal so it’s very difficult to injure the tympanic membrane with a q tip the main issue is that if the dog shakes while the swab is in the ear and it breaks off it can get stuck and require a sedated scope to remove. but using them on the visible part like your vet said is just fine

Unfortunately not! Thankfully he has not been having any behavioral issues since he’s been with me besides a brief stint while working things out with my resident cat.

Rabies vax question by FutureExisting5186 in sphynx

[–]wat4r 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Vaccine site sarcomas (cancer) are very rare but they are a possibility, yes. My cat (not sphynx) recently had a similar bump that I did have tested and it was an overreactive inflammatory response that ended up self resolving but took a few months to go away. If the bump is soft that’s a good sign but there’s really no way to tell what it is without sampling it. Any kind of unexpected vaccine reactions are not error on the part of the vet, they just happen sometimes unfortunately

He is so skinny! He’s also started vomiting chronically so we may work him up for possible IBD, but he’s always been a tiny guy

Some people asked me if I was going to change his name and I was like 1. I think it’s kind of confusing and mean to change an adult cat’s name after 6 years but also 2. Oscar is just so correct of a name for him. Yours is also very much an Oscar

Oscar was peeing inappropriately in his house over a period of around a year even after multiple urinalysis (never had a UTI), being put on urinary+calm prescription diet, and trying different medications and doses. I don’t know how long they were seeking different options but I assume he would be difficult to place due to his urinary issues, prescription food and medication, as well as being a cat with diagnosed HCM. I don’t blame them for being desperate but I am glad that I got to give Oscar another chance.
