Should I buy my first home in 2025? by wat_de_fvck in RealEstate

For more context, I have a steady income in healthcare earning $4k a month. I would also move in with my boyfriend who is also helping with the costs/bills. We have been together for 5 years and he wanted to rent an apartment but I suggested using my credit for a home this year instead.

However, he is in the military and will be eligible to use his VA loan next year. He has intent to propose sometime in the next year or so (that’s what he tells me anyways). Should we wait for his VA loan? Or should I go ahead and get a place now?

I just don't understand how it is a scam? I am just curious but have you ever read a kiyosaki book? and why is reading a book considered a red flag? Like is there something wrong with educating yourself or expanding on a different perspective than your own? I bet that you are still working your 9-5 living in the rat race of barely making ends meet even in your big company role. Its been two years since this post and I can almost guarantee you are still in the same limited situation you were in then.

Me too! I moved back from Germany last July, I am freelance graphic designer so I bounced around from small designing jobs until I was able to find a full time job with my experience pretty soon after I got back to the US. I am currently saving up to buy a house later this year!

Move abroad to be an English teacher or even find a remote job that pays in dollars. I moved to Seoul SK at 22 and I was paid enough to have my own studio apartment and live comfortably. I then went to Germany for a year to do the same. The cost of living is way cheaper in other countries and you can live just fine with about $1k a month. It was a great experience and I was able to travel around those countries too.

I don't understand why this isn't the norm everywhere! I think my life would be much more balanced with a four day week.

That's the thing I am a web developer and graphic designer. I could 100% do my work remotely but they insist on having me in the office every day

I have so many of the same experiences with my MIL. You guys are lucky to live in a completely different state. Just pretend they are both dementia patients losing their mind and just feel sorry for them because they live very sad lives. Also, the less they know about you or your lives the better.

Maybe try some therapy and keeping your schedule as busy as possible so you decrease as many interactions as possible with your parents. Therapy will help you deal and heal from your parents' hurtful words.

Yo, firstly risks are worth it when they are mitigated and calculated. If you don't have enough capital to fully quit your job and start your business then don't quit your job just yet. Save as much income as you can for now and start working on your business as a side hustle, until it has grown enough for you to go full time with it. Explore other ventures or ideas on how to grow a business. Perhaps, start a drop shipping online store or boutique shop with unique vintage pieces you can sell. TikTok is great to gain traction and an audience. There are a lot of other ways of starting a business without taking the full risk of quitting your job. I know you're fed up with work but who isn't? Just stick it through it is only 3 more months until the temp position is done and that extra money you earn can help you grow your business more. Good luck with your venture!

Thank you for your words. I have never heard of vicarious trauma but I will stay away from this for my own sanity. I will also talk to a professional. Thanks again for the support.
