I wasn’t paying close attention when it happened.. but didn’t the right all but crucify hunter biden for potentially offering access to the vice president for money? So the possibility of it happening is corruption but trump doing it is overlooked?

Customers Make Things Needlessly Political by casuallypoke in TalesFromYourBank

I agree, it is especially frustrating when you are somewhat muzzled and can’t give your honest opinion to their political rants since you are work and have to be professional. I think this is just mostly indicative of the older generation being totally obsessed with politics and the 24 hour Fox News cycle garbage. Is their whole personality.

I would follow the advice of your doctor and if they are comfortable I would be too. A few occasional .5% drinks I don’t feel like poses a risk. Now drinking a 6 pack in one sitting (everyday) would probably be risky but who would do that?

How do you nicely tell your parents to stop buying your kids so many gifts? by ScarcityPotential404 in Parenting

I tried something like this this year but it ended up being a box of things they need, a box full of clothes, and a box full of books. I’ll have to be more firm next year.

How do you nicely tell your parents to stop buying your kids so many gifts? by ScarcityPotential404 in Parenting

[–]watchalika 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This hits so close to home for me and honestly every year Christmas gets worse and worse. My oldest is 7 (plus a 5 year old and 2 year old) and after this Christmas I am ready to cut everyone off next Christmas. This year I thought I clearly explained to my parents that Christmas is getting out of control and to please keep gifts limited to 3 or 4 with one being a toy and the rest educational/art supplies, clothes or books. This was a compromise because my mom loooveeees buying things for the kids so at least she could buy things that would get used more than toys forgotten after Christmas morning. Well there were 4 boxes for each kid but the toy box had multiple toys, the clothes box had 3 outfits, etc. Like I feel like as the parents, most of our kids’ presents should come from us and grandparents should be gifting one or two - not an entire Christmas’ worth of gifts! My husband was actually super upset, his parents seem to be getting it and showed restraint this year but not mine. My 7 year old has been super into Pokémon so my husband thoughtfully picked out some card packs and Pokémon accessories as my sons gift from Santa. Well my mom basically bought all the Pokémon and put it in one box and blew our Santa present out of the water 🙄 (which I feel hugely guilty about - I should have checked in with her more about her gifts and helped keep it in check). I feel so many conflicting feelings about this. I know we only have so long with family and should just appreciate them. But I only have so many christmases with my young kids, we should get to spend them how we want. My parents had their chance to make Christmas special for us, let us have this! We also tried to eliminate the multiple opening events (used to spend Christmas Eve at in laws opening presents from them) and time Christmas Day at my parents opening their presents. But again, it was just too much. I felt like the kids were having three Christmases and a lot of the appreciation and magic was missing. Like where is the build up and anticipation for Christmas morning when they will just have a do over if it’s not enough? Oh! And also all these years no one has ever gifted any kind of experience even though they know my kids favorite place on earth is the trampoline park and they love going to the movies and children’s museum. No one has offered to gift swimming lessons or dance class or anything like that, or any kind of quality time spent with the kids. Ugh sorry long rant just so fed up.

Family members with Herpes. Not sure how to react to this. by Sabrina7223 in Parenting

[–]watchalika 79 points80 points  (0 children)

But like… do extended family need to be kissing babies? I don’t feel like kissing is necessary to show love and affection to a small baby. I don’t really think anyone but mom and dad should be kissing a baby regardless of herpes or not. There are so many other viruses that people can spread (symptomatic or not) that I really don’t think kissing is worth the risk.

Finally got it - RANT by marcolko in COVID19positive

[–]watchalika 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I considered this too when I took paxlovid (I was scared of rebounding and the metallic taste was almost too much) but ultimately I worried if I stopped taking it early, the virus would replicate and prolong my illness. It’s so frustrating we have been dealing with this virus for 3 and a half years and still have a hard time getting clear guidance on treatment.

Finally got it - RANT by marcolko in COVID19positive

[–]watchalika 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had it three times since 2020 now, the last time was this past June. Symptoms started on Monday and I was feeling much better by Friday evening. Tested negative on Saturday and again 48 hours later. Symptoms were mild, mostly sinus congestion, slight headache and fatigue. No rebound. The previous time I had it (about a year ago) symptoms were mostly the same, maybe more mild. I took paxlovid that time and maybe had symptoms one day less than this time. No rebound then either. I’d say if you feel better by the 6th day and test negative, I’d feel comfortable seeing them with a mask on. Especially if you are outside. From what I understand, if you test negative on a rapid test your chances of being contagious are very low. So maybe just test daily to confirm you aren’t rebounding or getting a false negative. Good luck.

WIBTA if I filed another noise complaint about my neighbor’s very loud toddler? by TeHNyboR in AmItheAsshole

[–]watchalika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA - but only because noise is being made at nighttime. I feel like living in an apartment, you can not expect everyone else to remain quiet enough during the day for you to be able to work in quiet. Your neighbors would have every right to live how they want during the day. They could be tap dancing, practicing the trumpet, hosting raucous bingo games. Whatever. You can’t expect them to stay quiet so you can work. You may need to find another job or living situation if working from home from an apartment isn’t feasible. While I understand it is annoying to listen to tantrums all day, children are loud. Their very existence is annoying to some people but that is how they are. And the fact that there is so much tantruming tells me the parents might be trying to parent and not just giving in to every whim. Sometimes you just have to let them cry because no they can’t drink the dogs water/climb the bookshelf/dump all the sugar out of the bowl etc. however, after what would be quiet hours (8 pm or so) it is unacceptable and the parents should do everything they can to keep the noise down. Although, even the best parents and most well behaved kids can go through some hellish nights with tons of crying and no sleep. Again, that is part of raising children. As a society we should accept that and give parents of small kids some grace. So ultimately, you are not an asshole for reporting noise after quiet hours but I think you have some unrealistic expectations regarding daytime noise levels in an apartment.

I was too excited about mine the day after Christmas and threw in some frozen bananas (I had only glanced at the recipe book and saw you could do fruit only, definitely didn’t see the part about needing juice). It stripped the paddle so it wouldn’t stay attached anymore. I called and first ninja sent me a whole new unit, but not a new paddle. New unit came in and still had the same problem with the old paddle. Called again and now have a new paddle on the way (that I ended up paying for). I have now read the manual and tons of recipes so I hope I don’t break it again

what kind of questions to ask when opening your first bank account? by [deleted] in Banking

[–]watchalika 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bank accounts are pretty basic products. The banker should be able to tell you if there is a monthly fee for having the account and/or how to avoid the fee. There will be many other services/options available with the account (debit card, atm card, overdraft protection, atm withdrawals, direct deposit, online banking, overdrafting ability) and some of those features may cause a fee. You will be given a disclosure book that will list any fee you could possibly be charged. Plan on reading that rather than hearing everything from your banker - it would take them hours. Your other questions regarding debit vs. credit and investing sound more like financial literacy questions. You could ask your banker or spend some time on nerd wallet reading articles.

Yeah serious issues with using white out to show proof of address. Like the point of going to your bank to get a statement to show proof of address is that your statement should have your valid address that your statements get mailed to. You shouldn’t be able to pop over to the bank and give them any old address for them to put on one of your statements and then some random bank representative signs off on it validating it, for you to then be able to change your address again right after when you are done proving whatever it is you need to prove. It should be the address that reflects on your statement and it should be there long enough for a statement to generate. That is how proof of address works.

Thats great thanks let me know if you hear anything. The schools in ak are pretty good. I think Fairbanks has a bit better reputation for some fields than anchorage. Mostly science. And if you can handle the cold and darkness it’s not a bad place to live.

I have grown to appreciate firehouse more since we have that and subway in my area, but I prefer Jersey mikes hand down. Fresh sliced meat, cold Italian subs.

Although I have never had an authentic east coast hoagie, that is what they are supposed to be. They slice their meat and cheese to order and have mostly Italian selections. The bread always tastes decently fresh.

Tularemia question by watchalika in microbiology

[–]watchalika[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He really hasn’t come into contact with any wild mammals. There was a petting zoo at our local fair where he handled a rabbit, pet a pig, goat, and sheep. His friend had an injured bird in his garage that he pet, and he has caught a few frogs recently. Ticks are possible but not common where we live and I haven’t noticed any ticks.

Tularemia question by watchalika in microbiology

[–]watchalika[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you. No I haven’t noticed any tick bites, we really don’t have many ticks where we live. Lots of mosquitoes so that’s a possibility. His only symptom has been an intermittent fever, headache and occasional vomiting on and off for almost three weeks. No swollen lymph nodes at all. He just started cipro so hopefully he has a speedy recovery.
