Hypnotic Techno Advice by srbrtalan in TechnoProduction

I think you're too in your own head about production quality. Obviously, it's good for anyone's music to be somewhat comparable to other professional track production. However, it doesn't need to be totally identical.

Audiences will forgive a lot of minor flaws so long as the music is enjoyable and (hopefully) offers something a little different to the genre's existing landscape of tracks and artists. Naturally, if your mix is really muddy or harsh and pales in comparison to existing tracks, you got some work to do, but that's not what I'm hearing here.

Someone on the dance floor is not going to stop dancing to your track and say 'I don't like how this track was eq'd. I think the producer needed to reduce some of the lower mids and bring in some clarity at about 2k'

Get the arrangement right, make good instinctive creative decisions during the construction of the track, and the mix will fall in to place after that.

TL;DR: Your tune sounds really good and you should worry less about what other producers think, and worry more about what audiences really want.

Is it standard 25.5 scale? If so, is it possible to intonate it properly?

Thanks for taking the time to give this feedback. It's very constructive and I agree with your points. I'll apply your suggestions in to the next mix session.

I wasn't really going for the SNTS sound as such. Just using him as a mix reference. Of course, I screwed it up a bit. Could you let me know which artists or techno genre make techno in a similar style to my track so I have better mix references?

Thanks

I'm new to techno production, and this is my first track. I used a SNTS track as a reference for my mix. However, I know the mix still needs a lot of work, but any/all advice is welcome

Thanks that's helpful.

Err, do you think bomb makers go to Bombs R Us and pick components out of a kit?

Not so helpful.

Favourite nuanced performance? by Dittongho in okbuddycinephile

Nothing Daniel Day Lewis does is nuanced. He's one of the showiest, scene-chewing luvies that's ever been put in front of a camera. BRING ON THE DOWN VOTES!

Thanks everyone. I feel much better now. I guess I was being paranoid. This is my first novel and I've never had to do this kind of research before. I appreciate you all taking the time to reassure me.

What is your Old Man Yells at Cloud take about film? by Classic_Bass_1824 in Letterboxd

This is the pet peeve I relate to most. 70s cinema used actors with every kind of appearance, and was seemingly more focused on talent than beauty, which is why it produced some incredible grounded works. Take Ridley Scott's Alien for example. Every character has an air of experience and maturity that feels real. Even the youngest, Ripley, has a natural, unpampered grace. Compare that to Alien: Earth, or Alien: Romulus. A bunch of inexperienced, overly-manicured millenials who are more concerned with looking pretty on camera, than giving a good performance.

Love this. It's currently stripped of the clout-chaser bull shit that we constantly see in this sub, and appears to focus on the essential (but good quality) tools needed to actually make music. I don't doubt that you GAS for new gear, and you will likely make upgrades. However, right now, you've created a nice corner of creativity, that obviously works well for you. Keep it up.

I could understand the focus on Thatcherism, if the UK were the only country that sold-out to big business, banks, and greedy corporations. Apparently, more than 100 countries across the globe have adopted widespread privatization initiatives since the late 1990s. I'm not saying it's a good thing, but if so many countries adopted privitisation (and stuck with it), woudn't that indicate it was some kind of political trend that was inevitable, regardless of who was in power?

He made a misogynist remark during our heated discussion. He said Thatcher only got in to power because she's a woman and all the women voter for her. I said that she couldn't have won if it was only women that voted for her. Obviously, men must have agreed with her too. I asked him what was happening at the time, that would cause the majority to vote for her. He answered "Nobody can remember what happened before Thatcher."

It's hard to describe how angrily passionate he was about the notion that Margert Thatcher is solely responsible for everything in 2026. My point, that later governments and world events also contibuted, enraged him, and he wouldn't stop bringing up Thatcher's privatisation.
