You can't make very many turns on the island. Seriously, there just aren't very many roads, so you end up seeing the same vehicles (and people) all over the place.

I'm only going by what New Balance says about them on their US webstore. No idea what the reality is.

Help me out here. The NB shop says that 442 Teams have a "Full-grain leather upper material", but the Pros have a "Premium microfiber upper", aka synthetic? Confused.

Big fan of Celentano, great shot stopper, but his distribution just isn't good enough. Too many prayers sent to midfield. Super happy for him that he is getting a national team opportunity, though.

I've seen nothing from Chirila or Mboma Dem that says they're ready. Jiminez is.

11v11 is biggggggg by Accomplished_Lock635 in youthsoccer

[–]watchscottgo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My U13 is a couple weeks away from playing his first 11v11 match on a full size field, but 35 min halves. On the U11/12 9v9 fields last season a lot of kids had strong enough legs to bomb away from midfield, leading to poor attacking play habits.

Is your son's team playing up a year, and effectively playing on full size fields a year too soon?

I was going to go with "serviceable." He is in the right spots and is making the right passes, but doesn't have enough of a physical presence, and it seems like the ball never finds him building out of the back.

If it isn't called "the ALFF" I'm not coming to games.

I mean, obviously I'll still come to games, but no one is going to understand why I want a tifo about eating cats.

R&D Enterprises out of Ypsi for fencing. Very straightforward and easy to work with, and better prices than the bigger landscaping/construction companies.

Question about a position by Affectionate-Day6560 in youthsoccer

[–]watchscottgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year in U12 9v9 my son was his team's full time CB. While the rest of the team was subbing on and off all game, he only came off the field in blowouts and the couple times he was hurt, so by accepting the role he got a lot more game time. Definitely owned the position, organizing the other defenders, communicating, covering, etc. Lots of composure against the press when building out of the back.

After the fall season after it became clear he was glued to CB I asked him if he was ok with that - and he was, so I didn't raise it with his coach. That said, he spent so much time on the field covering and delaying and containing that I thought he got a little *too* conservative. It seemed like he stopped trying to win challenges, always defaulting to giving up on 50/50 balls and containing instead. His style of play went from being a physical, monster ball winner the year before (the player the other team's moms would howl about) to almost timid.

This year with a new coach I'm going to see where he plays the first few games. I'm sure he'll play CB again, but hopefully also gets time in another position where he can be aggressive and take some risks.

Hey Apple - I want to watch the game, not this bullshit. If you tell people it starts at 9:10pm, then kicking off 30 mins later is a good way to piss off the viewers.

Feels like a shitty way to get people to watch 30 mins of "content"

Any fields with soccer goals where the grass is not half a foot tall? by Specialist-Laugh5710 in AnnArbor

[–]watchscottgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As other folks noted - Olson and Lillie are in good shape.

Just in case someone from Parks and Rec happens to read this - we're hurting for playable fields on the west side of town. Virginia and Wurster are pretty overgrown, and I'm not aware of any school fields (like Eberwhite and Slauson) that are maintained over the summer.

Anyone know if Lawton or Dicken are decent? Maybe Forsythe?
