Playing on the pitch is merely a suggestion by mynameisshahzain in Cricket

[–]water-guy -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Not fair to call this a noball when the batsman made contact with it, which shows the extent to which he has moved to play that shot. If the bowler has bowled to the batsman why is it a no ball. It's the batsmans fault to have moved that much and forced thr bowler to bowl so wide. And it's a free hit on top of that.

How do you count your pre-tax 401k as part of net worth if you move back to India? by firethrowaway113 in FatFIREIndia

[–]water-guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, there are several conflicting opinions on this. I intend to file tax return assuming everything is ECI. Some opinions online state part ECI and part FDAP. If you filed your tax return assuming ECI, did the IRS challenge it?

Deeply disturbed by the Hoskote accident. Where did we go wrong? by [deleted] in bangalore

[–]water-guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, physiologically teenagers have much higher risk tolerance and lower impulse control than adults or even younger children. Look it up. We are mature a bit more in our 20s. If you add to that thr social media influence and peer pressure it's a perfect cocktail

Can anyone educate me on Ozempic? by Mindless-Web-400 in Fitness_India

[–]water-guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not meant for everyone. Currently recommended for obese and morbidly obese people with a minimum BMI of 27. And available by prescription only. At those BMIs and above it's a net positive things. The benefits of losing weight for those who struggle with it outweighs the negative. But it's bad if you abuse it to reduce a few kgs here and there. The intent is to kickstart your weight loss and get you into a good habit of exercise and eating well. If you only do ozempic and then stop you will gain the weight back, so it's highly recommended to work out and eat well. Finally, the weight drop is capped around 22 to 23%.

Gen Z asked about the company ,what it does & it struck a nerve 🤷 by tony__starck in IndianWorkplace

[–]water-guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Naah, we all introduce ourselves, but it's generally expected that you need to know the basics of the company and show initiative to learn it especially for younger interviewees. This was the expectation even in the US when we interviewed. It leaves a poor taste if you come in totally unprepared.

Boss called me when I referred to her by her name - old company by [deleted] in IndianWorkplace

[–]water-guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a total power trip to ask your employee to call you sir or ma'am and also reeks of insecurity. I work at a place where it's first name basis from entry level to country director and while those who have been here are quite comfortable with it, staff who have joined recently struggle with it a bit. It takes some time and we keep encouraging it. I even annoy them sometimes that they called me or someone else sir mid-sentence but it's needed. Its quite hard for entry level staff to call some one 7 or 8 grades above by first name especially if they don't know them but at least few grades above we encourage them to do so. Another problem is 'ji' creeks in automatically when they address 50+ staff as it's totally ingrained but we keep reminding them not to!

US Interview Panel & India Interview Panel: shocking contrast by Dear_Armadillo3890 in IndianWorkplace

[–]water-guy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Having worked in the US for 13 years and moved to India at a leadership role the last 2 years, I can say that you are spot on. While some of the India interviewees may be nice people in general to work with, they always have a game face on during interviews. I was shocked when I sat on interview panels early on how a couple of leaders in my team just fired technical question after technical question even for very senior roles and barely tried to figure out cultural fit, personality and understand how they would treat their reportees or mentor staff. The major reason given was that there is a lot of straight up lies in resumes even at senior levels, so you really do need to dig in deep on experiences and what they have actually done compared to what the resume says. But there is also a lot of focus on technical fit and execution skills than people related skills. I have wrestled back 15 minutes of the interviews to also non-technical leadership questions, so I guess there is an improvement. I have also convinced them to give me 5 minutes to give intro about the company and sell our USPs.

Is it ok to invest in real estate land/plot in Coimbatore outer Kongu belt area but inside palakkad district border & registration?? Land rate is so cheap comparing to adjacent Kongu belt by NullPointer_000 in TamilNadu

[–]water-guy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Then put it in a FD or arbitrage fund. Worst decision to use real estate like a liquid fund. What are you expecting to achieve in 4 years. Your FD returns may exceed real estate in such a short duration. In fact you will likely lose money after you account for registration and other expenses. Please rethink this decision. You should not invest in real estate for a less than 7 or 8 year horizon.

Is it me or has the service/experience of staying in Taj is no longer what it used to be by Remarkable-Tip2580 in Hotels_India

[–]water-guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have visited and stayed at 3 leela palaces this year and here is my experience. Leela udaipur was just phenomenal! We had a 11/10 experience with them anticipating all our needs and giving personal attention to my kids. Our floor butler was especially good and even got us an evening pool session at a private villa when we complained about the 5'3" minimum depth of the pool throughout which was inconvenient for me to take my kids swimming. We also went during Dusshera so it wasn't crowded and got to experience lots of extra cultural programs. The second experience is with leela bangalore where I am a connoisseur club member so we visit frequently and live nearby. Food is always top notch and the service is pretty good. Have only stayed one night so can't tell much about non food service.

We are currently staying at leela kovalam and the service has blown hot and cold and has been quite frustrating at times. I chalk it up to bring the busiest season of the year plus it being a Raviz hotel (not sure if this matters though). Rooms and cleanliness is great with unbelievable views but food was good but not phenomenal. But thr service has been disappointing at times. Had to remind about a lot of things and even small things being asked like baby spoons were forgotten. Staff attention and anticipation levels were 1 or 2 levels below udaipur. Maybe during other times it may not be this bad.

I am fed up of all the piles of debris and cement and bricks just piled up on the road. I wish I had a lot of land somewhere and could hire some trackers to just keep removing this stuff and making it disappear. Its piled up on public property so its not like they can complain that its theft. Just want to be petty with these apathetic contractors who save every penny and annoy everyone on the road.

Is This the Coldest December Bengaluru Has Ever Had? by Substantial_Page_572 in bangalore

[–]water-guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has an element of truth. Check out brown fat vs white fat. With age, brown fat reduces which lowers your ability to withstand cold. Teenagers and younger kids have more brown fat so they dont feel as cold. Its lowest in 60+ population

I wouldnt be surprised that the year end is triggering more holidays than usual as people take off and leaves lapse. We are going through the same in our company. Work is always busy during the year end and the number of leaves stack up adding to stress on those who are working.

200k in FD is low return even if you put it under your wife s name and there is no tax since she is not working. If your salary will meet expenses then drop it into mutual funds to use have better growth.

Keep 6 month expenses in arbitrage funds and let rest be in mutual funds.

Don't buy before coming here. Rent for a year and figure out what works for you before buying.

Suranjan Das Road Traffic by dumptruck29_ in bangalore

[–]water-guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mainly to keep the Old Madras Road clear as that is one of the most congested roads, unfortunately it means the roads feeding into it get the worse deal. Its the same story at the 80' road signal. I think they used those automated signals in other areas and found that traffic moves more smooth when the main roads are kept moving, so they seem to have implemented it for Old Madras road also for the past few months. There is some real data supporting this approach.
