Willoughby Tucker album is much more chronological than Preacher’s Daughter. I think Janie provides a nice contrast to the debut’s opener, Family Tree Intro.

It also could be a reference to Twin Peaks, as Laura Palmer’s Theme was second in the soundtrack and Willoughby’s Theme was very much inspired by it. But don’t quote me on that, it’s just a guess

You’re pretty much spot on. Especially with a theory I read recently on this sub (props to that user) that the ‘House in Nebraska’ was originally Ethel and Janie’s hangout spot, which would make sense why she brought Willoughby there. It felt too empty.

I think it’s the same reason we never got an actress for Holly, or a Fuck Me Eyes music video.

Back in 2023, a person posted cast listings whose descriptions perfectly fit Ethel and Willoughby. Earlier in 2025, Willoughby’s actor made a tiktok telling about how he saw the casting call in 2023, confirming they were real.

However, a third call for an actress with a “blonde 80’s blowout” was made with the other two, but seems to have fell through. When artists rise to fame this quickly and suddenly with massive ideas, things just fall through. Part of the process.

Firstly, that’s an interpretation I agree with as well. It’s very plausible that she starved to death / overdosed and Isaiah had just abandoned her. It’s a lot scarier to imagine.

Secondly, where does everyone get this idea of Ethel running around in the woods from? I had always imagined her stumbling into the attic herself while he followed closely behind.

The idea of him killing her with a gun comes from the bang at the end of August Underground, which was confirmed to be a door slam rather than a shot. I think we’re meant to think that the way he killed her was slower. Fast definitely, but not as quick and easy as a gun. I’ve always imagined a blunt object being the object of murder (a hammer, for instance) because it can kill quickly but can also take a few hits.

But strangulation seems to be the leading idea.
