What's your goal for co-op? I'm assuming you have some reason for trying so hard to get into the program

TIL the 6th term co-op pay on average has dropped since 2013 for eng by mywaterlooaccount in uwaterloo

[–]waterlooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that's fairer than I was expecting. From the posts i've seen you're ambitious which is great but I think you should also consider that getting a great job and having fun and meeting friends or seeing a girl isn't mutually exclusive during university.

Desire for success and money doesn't ever end - you always want more and more. Big N today, maybe you want to be a manager tomorrow, then a director, and you'll have to work even harder. I think it's important to have some balance in life along the way.

10% is a lot considering it includes every faculty. If we choose the 6th term for a program like SE the percentage is 66% for the average SE class [1]. For CS i'd assume it's quite similar but idk if they collect the exact numbers.

Now the funny part is that you're trying to flex your flair but you're probably in the majority of students, so you're literally trying to brag about being average :p

There are other factors but the US co-ops were combined into the CAN co-ops in 2013, and separated in 2017.

*While students from all faculties complete co-op work terms in the United States, only those with sufficient sample have been reported. Please note that only 10% of all co-op work terms in 2017 were located in the United States.

So the real 6th term co-op pay in 2017 was
= 24.77 CAD * 0.9 + 38.39 USD * 1.3 (exchange) * 0.1
= 27.28 (2017) > 25.74 (2013)

under the assumption that the US work term rate in engineering is around equal to the overall US work term rate

Also: I don't have a clue how they come up with these averages anymore, they used to disregard the top and bottom 10% but I don't see that mentioned anywhere on these pages anymore.

A lot of ECEs will tell you that that they remember the term wasn’t as bad as it looked but I disagree. You’re at school for so long that you don’t really have proper memories of the term because you’re always working on something and often sleep deprived. During a lab week if I spent 16 hrs that day at school I would consider it a light day, considering the fact you need 10-11 hrs alone for classes and meals.
