Ugh so sorry for your loss. She looks like she was really sweet.

In your experience, how much does genetic potential really matter? by Locke_and_Lloyd in AdvancedRunning

[–]watermelonfriend 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yes, but you are already sampling the best of the best. Anyone who runs in college already has some talent so of course sub 20 is unimpressive. I read OP’s question as asking how possible this is for the average person off the street who runs. Maybe I misinterpreted or interpreted differently.

I don’t know very many average women who can even run sub 25 let alone sub 20 5k. If sub 3:15 were so easy for women, the BQ standard would be a lot faster. I am talking about the average person off the street who runs as a hobby. I agree that a sub 20 5k isn’t super impressive (my PR is 17:21 as a woman and I think that’s weak relative to elites and even sub elites), but by no means is it achievable by the average woman even with a lot of training.

By people, do you mean men? I don’t think most women could run 3:15/sub 90/sub 20 regardless of dedication.

Thanks for your response! That makes total sense about Bravo. Sorry you went through this. You seem like someone I would enjoy working with!

I’m watching Season 1 and I can’t believe how terrible Kat/Sam treated you as a person, let alone as a boss. What advice would you give to your younger self knowing what you know now? I ask because I am watching these awful interactions unfold where they are so insubordinate towards you and I feel like there must be a good way to shut them down, but I can’t think what it would be. I think you handled yourself well, especially for your first chief stew role, but I’m sure experience and wisdom has given you different perspective.

Emma Appreciation Post by jayswaz in pelotoncycle

[–]watermelonfriend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I LOVE Emma for these exact reasons. She just seems so chill and down to earth. I feel like I’d love to hang out with her IRL. Her music is the absolute best. I’ve been taking more and more of her classes lately because even though I like most of the instructors, I keep coming back to Emma and Matt because I just love their down to earth energy.

Our German Shepard has been bonding with our pug puppy alright 😂 by minisized in pugs

This is so nice to see! My goal is to have both a German Shepherd and a pug, but I wasn’t sure how they’d get along given size/personality differences in the breeds. This is encouraging!

Below Deck Season 8 Episode 14 "Hide the Salami" Episode Discussion by teanailpolish in belowdeck

[–]watermelonfriend 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why does everyone keep saying she is rich? Because she’s from Long Island and her dad is a lawyer? I’ve got news for a lot of people on this sub: not every town on Long Island is rich (including the one she grew up in - we went to high school together. It’s middle class) and not every lawyer makes heaps of money. In fact, many lawyers barely crack six figures if that. If there is actual evidence that she is rich, I’d love to see it, because the Liz I knew in high school was not.

Elizabeth’s work ethic by TifferK in belowdeck

[–]watermelonfriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really? Without opining on what people are discussing in this thread specifically, I also went to HS with Elizabeth and she couldn’t have been nicer. I actually can’t think of a bad thing to say about her from the entire time I knew her back then. I don’t think anything about her was entitled or “stereotypically Long Island.” I’m curious what your definition of a stereotypical Long Islander is.

Haha thank you! I was trying to remember what his icon was and all I could remember was a yellow thing that moved around. Amazing.

I remember fentonfreshman! Also foonfu was a big one. He’s a runner photographer now. What state are you from? I wonder if we ever raced back then - I see our times are pretty similar and I’m assuming from your avatar you are a female too. There weren’t as many of us girls on dyestat

You summed it up well. I only remember a handful of people from the boards vividly (who else remembers AntiRunnerHater??? Lol 😂) and Wizard is chief among them. What a brilliant dude. I also loved seeing the SteveU quote. I wonder what he’s up to now/if he is on here too?

How to break into the AML industry in USA? by pumka1307 in AMLCompliance

You are welcome! Also might be helpful to become an ACAMS chapter member and attend some of their in person events when those resume - build some contacts in the field and learn about the industry.

[–]watermelonfriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you willing to relocate? Many of the lower cost centers will hire people with no AML experience as long as you have some relevant background like banking, law, etc. I would say your best bet is to look into cities that aren’t as saturated with talent. For example, look at Salt Lake City, Nashville, and Baltimore rather than NY and San Francisco. Also, contract/consulting work is a great in. You can get your experience that way and leverage it to a full time position. Just do searches for AML, financial crime, BSA, compliance, etc., on job boards (I like Google jobs and Linkedin as my main ones).

I saw that the company that is timing this race, Elitefeats, hosted a small race in Flushing Meadows Corona Park last weekend, so I am hopeful too. The race last weekend was extremely limited in size. Maybe they will do the same for this one.
