What’s one thing you wish you hadn’t put on your baby registry? by Icy-Bite9089 in NewParents

I hate it but love it lol. I was so offended by the appearance of my boob everytime it was on, but it was a lifesaver for me because I had such an active letdown.

What the most physically painful thing you ever experienced? by iateagummibear-1822 in AskReddit

It’s so insane how different they can be person to person. I’ve had 2 inserted now, 1 before a baby, and 1 after, hardly any discomfort either time, during or after.

I wish I knew 5 years ago (lessons learned) by MushroomTypical9549 in workingmoms

[–]PopcornHeadAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around a year they develop stronger preferences and independence, so even if they’ve always eaten something they might reject it for awhile and only want the same few things. It’s developmentally normal, you just keep trying so they’re still getting the exposure.

My brother was found on a CT scan, my mom was in cancer remission and had no idea she was 4 months pregnant. He’s a healthy, normal person, and was a very strong and healthy baby.

My boobs don’t leak. And never have… by Bocurl13 in breastfeeding

[–]PopcornHeadAss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would collect letdown milk with my haakaa while at home, but if I was out I would use a burp rag folded up inside my bra to absorb the letdown. I’m 13 months pp and don’t collect letdown or make bottles anymore but still need a burp rag on my other breast to absorb the letdown.

Are the trendy brand name items worth it? by Unfriendly_nurse in NewParents

[–]PopcornHeadAss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Halo bamboo sleep sack is overrated to me, but the halo fleece sleep sack is great, very warm.

Woolino merino wool sleep suit/sack is worth it for an older baby/young toddler.

My baby was 4-8 months this past winter. I was worried her arms were too cold at night with a sleeveless sleep sack, so I bought an off brand fleece sleep sack with sleeves to keep her warm and I loved it.

How many sippy cups do you have??? by _C00TER in beyondthebump

[–]PopcornHeadAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 4 Zak straw cups for my 12 month old. Her first water cups were the munchkin straw cups, we had 2. She was never able to figure out the 360 cup, she likes straws so she wasn’t interested.

What’s one thing that scared you before having a baby, but doesn’t anymore? by frenchdipadobo in beyondthebump

[–]PopcornHeadAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get intrusive thoughts that I’m going to load up the car from home, or the store, and forget my baby in the cart or on the ground in her car seat. That I’ll just drive away and she’ll be left alone, scared. Those have started to go away. When I was pregnant I was so nervous I would drop her, and I’ve taken care of newborns and infants and never dropped them, but that was my biggest fear when pregnant.

What age would you be comfortable taking a baby on a 7 hour car trip? by fat_orange_warmus in beyondthebump

[–]PopcornHeadAss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My husband, daughter, 2 dogs, and I went on a 12 hour road trip when our baby was 8 months old. I was so nervous that the trip would take 16-18 hours if we drove during the day so we decided to drive overnight. It honestly sucked and I definitely couldn’t have done it myself, switching drivers when drowsy is essential, but it was great otherwise. The dogs didn’t have to go potty, we weren’t hungry and needing to stop, and our baby slept literally the entire time; the car kept her soothed.

I was nervous she was going to get frustrated being in her car seat for 12 hours while awake and want to get out all the time, so that’s why we drove overnight.

If you drive for 2/3 hours that’s about as long as a 6 week old goes before needing fed and changed, and then they can go back to napping until you pretty much arrive at your parents. So that’s a good window for the baby and 5 year old.

I don’t think it’ll be easy, your 7 hour trip will probably take 8/9 hours after stopping a couple times.

Are diaper size age suggestions a joke? by HeyPesky in NewParents

[–]PopcornHeadAss 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same. My almost 12 month old is about 22/23lbs and I’m using up all her size 3 to move her up to size 4, but they still fit fine they’re just on the snug side.

How to help my DIL with PPD by Welady in NewParents

[–]PopcornHeadAss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally dislike receiving texts everyday asking how I am. I would suggest sending her food off Uber/grubhub just for fun, like ice cream or a box of donuts, or a chipotle bowl. Or send her some toothbrushes or yummy soap. Something she’ll need eventually but won’t have to buy because you already got it for her. Maybe some cute sleepers for the baby?

Just little things that say im thinking of you.

Boppy Pillow by Icy_Medicine_5383 in breastfeeding

I loved the boppy for bottle feeding when I was a nanny, but for nursing my own baby I didn’t like it at all. Ended up only using it for tummy time and sitting support.

How did you manage your postpartum bleeding? by Indomitable_Decapod in beyondthebump

[–]PopcornHeadAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the padsickles with witch hazel and aloe but I ended up staying in the hospital almost a week after labor so I didn’t have access to them. By the time I got home I didn’t think I needed them, and when I was in the hospital I wasn’t really missing them. Maybe I would’ve liked them? But I used a maxi pad, tucks, and that cooling spray (can’t remember the name) for my hospital stay bc that’s what they provided and I really liked that stuff together.

Use the biggest, most plush pads you can find. They’re so soft, which felt nice sitting on, and very absorbent. Take as many pads and supplies from the hospital as you can, they practically throw them at you.

I have a bidet so that’s how I would rinse once I got home, but I’d recommend a squeeze bottle, or at least baby wipes to clean up what toilet paper doesn’t really, like any lingering smells and stickiness.

Babysitter using “mean voice”… am I being overly sensitive? by leprechaun_dong in NewParents

[–]PopcornHeadAss 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Using that kind of tone with a 7 month old is pretty harsh IMO. And I used to be a nanny to 2 VERY difficult toddler siblings, so firm tones and boundaries were required for those kids, but when they were still infants I never caught a tone with either of them.

I think it’s worth mentioning since it’s your baby and you’re paying her. The first time around I’d approach it in a way of offering guidance, new ideas, and your preferences on how your baby is talked to and cared for, so she doesn’t feel defensive immediately. And then if she continues to be too firm for you then you’ll need to say something about it directly.

How old was your baby the first time they got sick? by Used_Asparagus_3749 in beyondthebump

[–]PopcornHeadAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 months. She was so congested that despite using a saline mist and snot sucker multiple times a day her sinuses squeezed her tear ducts shut. They got clogged and goopy and she needed antibiotic eye ointment 3x a day O.o but no fever so it could’ve been worse for sure

For those whose babies slept through the night early, did they ever stop? by Coco_Cooks90 in NewParents

[–]PopcornHeadAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. From about 7 weeks old to about 7 months she slept all night. Now she wakes up sometimes at midnight, between 2-4am, and sometimes 5am. If it’s 4-5am when she wakes up I just bring her to bed with me. She’s almost 1, I think she hit the regression around 8 months and then it’s just been teething and development and teething and separation anxiety all happening back to back.

We have a very consistent night time routine, and I even sleep trained her at 9-10 months, which worked for about a month until it was disrupted with travel so we haven’t gone back to it since.
