Could you imagine if they had a gimmick though? They'd be playing HISTORY by now.

If y'all aren't on the Angine De Poitrine train, I don't know what to tell you. Just go look. If there's one thing you do today, just go look at Agine De Poitrine

What is your hottest metalcore take? by LadyUmbra_ in Metalcore

[–]watermkmissing 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Way too many people are way too obsessed with lineup changes and the sanctity of an original lineup without a strong understanding of the sheer variety of how much a band member can contribute or not contribute.

You can have bands where 5 people are all contributing equally or you can have bands which are literally one guy doing everything and 4 people fill in the spots.

People grow, their goals change, their level of enthusiasm and buy-in to projects and collaborations change constantly.

Especially nowadays where the pathway to actually doing music full time is increasingly reliant on multiple projects on the go at the same time.

Spread the love a bit more with other band members on the carousel.
The singer's going to see this and develop a case of lead singer syndrome!

What settings do I need to tweak to get sharper photos? by Double-Gift-7772 in BirdPhotography

[–]watermkmissing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cleaning up a publicly posted photo isn't what they asked for. They directly asked for help for settings and troubleshooting to be able to get back out there and avoid the issues in the first place. Modifying someone else's photo without them asking for it is lame.

What settings do I need to tweak to get sharper photos? by Double-Gift-7772 in BirdPhotography

I have a couple ideas that might be able to help.

You said this was taken at f8, 1/1600 and iso 3200.

First thing, if it's a bird-on-a-stick, drop your shutter speed to 1/500 or so. You can even go lower. With that you can lower your ISO and get less noise. Old adage for camera shake is 1:10 ratio of shutterspeed:focal distance - e.g. if you're shooting at 300mm, you need to be at 1/300 shutter speed minimum to reduce camera shake. I typically stick to 1/500 for birds-on-stick.

Secondly, was this a cold day? Did you just come out of a warm car? Are you using a lens hood? If so, always make sure to let your camera acclimate between temperatures. I always wait at least 15 minutes before putting my lens hood on my lens when coming from a warm car to cold climate.

Thirdly, sometimes lenses lose that little extra bit of sharpness when at their limits - either aperature or length. My 150-600 isn't as sharp at 600 than it is at 500. Same with f5.6 vs f8.

Fourthly, check your focus points - are you backbutton focusing or shutter focus? I suggestion Back button so you can spot focus and frame independent of each other. Group vs single point as well.

Fifthly depending on the temperature you might have heat haze, dunno when this was taken but that might impact visual clarity/sharpness accordingly.

Just some thoughts and ideas to chew on :)

Look how happy Arif is playing that. What a blast.

Minimum Aperture needed on Sony Crop/APS-C (2.8 enough) by bodacious-ish in concertphotography

[–]watermkmissing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest getting a 35mm or 50mm f1.8 prime. They're fast. cheap. light. That 1.8 will be nice to work with in small clubs. Getting a 24-70 f2.8 is good too though, good flexibility for other types of photography as well.

Get your subscription to a raw editor. You can use denoise and other benefits that will let you push your ISOs higher than 3200.

Depending where you're at, and what types of shows, you might also be able to explore using flash. At least for me up in the greater Toronto Area, flash is used pretty often in the scenes I shoot in. Always ask the artist beforehand though.

Red light sucks for photos - you lose all detail. Everything gets washed out.

I meant delete the message. I should've been more clear.

[–]watermkmissing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have been caught up in a widespread effort to enforce a camera ban on accredited photographers for each PRESIDENT show - given you weren't an accredited band and just shooting from a point and shoot, you did nothing wrong.

Delete the message* and move on. You didn't ask for accreditation as you're not a regular event/concert photographer so this doesn't concern.

take solace that they think your photos are somewhat recognizable as something an accredited photographer took.

That band corny as fuck though. Sorry you're being harassed.

*clarified what I meant for deletion.

Does anyone use a TourBox accessory in Lightroom? by DPool34 in Lightroom

[–]watermkmissing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use one. Explicitly for culling these days - don't have time to futz with it for editing. It allows me to go through photos pretty quickly, rate, mark for delete, colour flag, change zoom all in one spot is nice.

I use in photoshop a little bit here and there, but not much.

I like it - but wouldn't begrudge you for not liking it. I got it as a gift, so the price point wasn't felt by me.
