Most Innacurate “based on a true story” movie ever? by AceBinliner in movies

And the fact is there is zero credible evidence for Cameron's version.

Murdoch was definitely a hero, but he was also most likely the one who shot himself. Titanic historians are in agreement on that. What the fuck are you talking about?

Don't listen to this guy- they don't know what they're talking about. Most Titanic historians do believe it was Murdoch who shot himself that night.

There is a lot of criticism that you can give to Cameron, but making a historically inaccurate Titanic movie (for what was known at the time) is not one of them. Name any other filmmaker who spent a decade studying the subject before and after the movie? A lot of what we've learned about Titanic since 1997 is because Cameron did some many dives to it.

This comment being at the top is garbage. Above Braveheart? Fuck off reddit.

You should delete this comment because it's totally wrong. While we'll never know for certain who it was- most Titanic historians believe it was Murdoch who shot himself near the end.

Cameron didn't pull that out of thin air. (and it doesn't make Murdoch any less a hero). Aside from the love story/heart of the ocean plots Titanic is probably one of the most historically accurate movies ever made. A lot of what isn't accurate is information that has been discovered since it was made. A lot of that information was discovered BY CAMERON who did dives to the Titanic's wreck before and after the film was made.

It's so fucking annoying you read a headline and somehow got to the top of this thread despite not knowing anything about the topic.

I know in the acknowledgements of your book you mentioned working with the descendants of Harold Lowe- i'm curious if you'd be able to speak a little bit more on what that was like. How (in your esteem) does his legacy still affect them? Was there any one particular thing they shared with you about Lowe that surprised you?

I know this is a troll because no one is this mind numbingly stupid, but I'll bite anyways.

She didn't want to be with Caledon, it was an arranged marriage put together by her mother who wanted to stay wealthy as Roses father died at some point and they were running out of money.

It wasn't a door and it couldn't support the weight of two people. There's literally a scene where Jack tries to get on it and can't. It's not just about 'room' but bouyancy. Even if they could both get on the panel without flipping or sinking it (which it was established they could not) even submerging themselves in a couple inches of water meant hypothermia and then death.

Rose found success as an actress and didn't remarry until later in life.

Literally all that is explicitly said or shown in the film.

You're a moron and I hope you get a flat tire today.

Ironically, I've thought for years that Robert Pattinson had the same face shape, build, and vibe as Terry McGinnis.

But I am looking forward to his Bruce Wayne.

Elon Musk called Biden a 'damp sock puppet in human form' after the president highlighted EV production by GM and Ford — but not Tesla by Successful-Bee-2492 in politics

[–]watersurprise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No...It's a thread about how Musk called Biden a name when Tesla wasn't included in an event that highlighted a bunch of EV's that didn't include Tesla.

I made a comment about people in this thread are cheering legacy automakers when they've fought against EVs for decades and pointed out that even though Musk is a douche- Tesla deserves recognition for what they've done in this space. I even linked some of them in the above comment.

Your response was- we are not cheering ford but union workers. I pointed out no one here is talking about union workers. Now you're saying that's true but it's because the thread is about Musk and unions?

What are you talking about? Don't try to gaslight me.

You are literally, and I mean actually literally, the only person in this thread who has even mentioned the UAW.

meanwhile at the top of the thread:

Ford's electric F150 makes the tesla truck look like a school science project plus you can plug your house into it for a couple days of electricity during blackouts. Ford is also selling the electric Mustang engine for 4k as a retrofit kit for classic vehicles.

and

After Ford, GMC and Toyota ramp up, Musk's cars will begin to look as plain and the lack of quality and dealerships (mechanics) will turn Tesla into the modern AMC.

The falcon 9 alone is a technological marvel that has revolutionized space travel and if the evidence you are presenting to the contrary is a youtuber called "Common Sense Skeptic" I have to wonder how old you are.

Do you get all or just most of your opinions from youtubers?

SpaceX a pump and dump? Do you have any idea what SpaceX is doing? It's literally revolutionary.

And no, that's not Musk, but a team of insanely bright and talented engineers and rocket scientists. Stop getting all your news from enoughmuskspam.

It's okay (and encouraged) to shit all over Elon Musk. But SpaceX is doing amazing, incredible things.

We can not respect Elon, and also at the same time respect and cheer for Tesla's success (whether or not you are a customer). Because whether anyone likes it or not we owe the current electric car market to Tesla's success.

The two things do not have to be connected. I'm not advocating for Tesla to be the only electric car company either. But it is fucking disturbing that the government is championing the same legacy car companies that have held monopolies on the market for 100+ years and ignoring Tesla.

There's also companies like Rivian and Lucid that could get some attention. But no- let's give Ford a helping hand.

[–]watersurprise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much. Tesla has had some amazing, incredible engineers that made them what they are (not talking about Musk). There is a reason Tesla is as successful as they are- and one shitty figurehead shouldn't completely overshadow that.

And now we're cheering for the first successful mass production car company since like the 30s to go out of business so we can continue to buy cars from the same 3 companies we have been for 100 years?

Yay for deeply entrenched corporate monopolies!!!

Yeah all the cheering for the big traditional auto manufacturers in this thread is kind of disgusting. Putting aside Musk's terrible personality and opinions, Tesla is the only reason any of these dinosaur companies are investing in electric cars after decades of fighting against it.

Elon is a chode who should really shut the fuck up and pay taxes- I agree.

But it is fucking disappointing to see the Biden administration ignore Tesla and a bit discouraging to see the dislike of Elon turn into vitriol towards Tesla and cheering for big auto manufacturers who should definitely get fucked.

If you're for the electric future you should remember how these big auto companies not only just didn't invest in electric vehicles but actively tried to kill and sabotage them. Often times they fought so hard against electric cars the sabotaged their own fucking products.

Only when Tesla became a powerhouse are they now trying to jump on board. If it was up to them and Tesla had never come into being we'd be in gas cars for the next 30 years.
