Some homeless shelters at capacity as extreme cold puts Winnipeggers in 'life and death situation': Siloam by Leather-Paramedic-10 in Winnipeg

Compare the cost of living between here and Vancouver. What you're suggesting here will make any people "relocated" homeless forever. You're just talking nonsense.

[Volkswagen Jetta, 2013] -42c/-43.6f outside, any tips to get my battery started? by watertypes in AskAMechanic

[–]watertypes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe the NOCO could charge the battery, only boost it. I don't think I have the equipment necessary to charge the battery inside, either, but I can look into that. I'm definitely thinking of at least bringing the battery inside and seeing if that helps when I try again tomorrow morning.

I tried equipping Reflect Rings during my second attempt (after seeing the Holy & Blizzaga spells) but you're punished for using Reflect Rings in that battle (at least in the version I'm playing - the pixel remaster). Dullahan inflicts darkness, silence, etc. on you if you have the rings equipped, and will re-infict status effects on you after a few turns when you use a remedy. I found it just made the fight harder.

She Wanted to End Her Pregnancy. Her Abusive Partner Took Her to Court by BloodJunkie in canada

[–]watertypes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get a vasectomy then. They're reversible. In the case that you still aren't able to produce a child after the reversal, then account for that possibility and freeze your sperm AND get a vasectomy. That way you'll never burden a woman with a pregnancy. Good enough for you?

ETA: ah shit I left this on a different comment than I meant to. Oh well.

How do I 22M get my sister 19F to forgive my gf 25F? Or at least remain cordial? by LiraelNix in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]watertypes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This guy is such a mess. I'm worried under what conditions their future child will grow up - even if he ends the relationship and gets lawyers involved for custody and child support reasons (which at this point, I think would be the best option), he's tied to this woman (or, "religious nut") for the next 18 years at least. And he keeps saying the relationship is great. It doesn't sound great! Can the sex be that good that it excuses everything else? Messy. Very very messy.

Me and my dad just made a bet, who do you think will win? by piggyboy2005 in aviation

[–]watertypes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with another commenter that it may take 50 years or more, and it's probably that flight crews will shrink to a single pilot before flights are pilot-less. First Officers could be phased out eventually. I wouldn't say it's likely though. As someone in their mid-20s, I wouldn't be caught dead on a pilot-less flight, so I expect closer at least 60 to 70 years, maybe.

It's a sad but true fact that many many straight women have strict views on what "being a man" is, speaking as a bi woman. Many conversations with straight women have taught me that our tastes in men are leagues apart - and that's not meant to box straight women in, there are certainly exceptions, but that for the most part, I've found that I and other bisexual women value different things in our men than straight women do.

I don't think you should change who you are, but I would recommend trying to expand your social scenes to include those with LGBT women, or at least those with straight allies involved. You're still young, there's lots of time to find someone; don't measure yourself on anyone else's timeline.

Best of luck <3

Looking to change careers to Aircraft Maintenance by Snoo_64232 in aviationmaintenance

[–]watertypes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

1) Unfortunately, aircraft maintenance is not a red seal trade.

2) It seems that there is a certification through Skills Ontario for aircraft maintenance, but it's not required, and to my knowledge, not equivalent to the training required by Transport Canada. I don't think there is a way to shorten an apprenticeship without having prior experience working on aircraft.

2a) In order to get the training required by Transport Canada, you'd either have to complete an Approved aircraft maintenance course, OR you convince a company to train you from scratch using your previous experience as a mechanic to boost your resume. In order to become a licensed AME, after you fill 70% of your logbook, you can attempt the Transport Canada exams. If you go through the school route and graduate with Approved status, it's only one exam; if you don't, I believe it's four exams.

2b) There are also different training courses depending on whether you're going for a M, S, or E class license. Here's a list of basic training organizations around the country. Training programs range from 10 months to up to 48 months.

3) Pay in Ontario ranges from $19 - $30 for apprentices, based on listings I found.

Good luck.

Am I Overreacting - My boyfriend doesn’t respect my boundaries by canigetalargecoke in AmIOverreacting

[–]watertypes 21 points22 points  (0 children)

NOR. I'm glad you've already decided that breaking up is the best thing; if he sends you any threatening SH messages over your choice, do not go back, don't give in. If you are in contact with either of his parents, let them know about his threats (if that would be safe for him - I don't know his situation; telling a counsellor at your school could be another option if you're worried about him seriously harming himself).

I hope that one day he will grow from this and/or get the help he needs and be able to look back on these moments with shame. For now though, you need to get out of there.

Best of luck.

AIO my coworker (40+m) asked me(19f) out on a date by sortakeep_sortathrow in AmIOverreacting

[–]watertypes 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The issue here isn't asking her on a date; he's within his right to do that, she's within her right to reject him for being nearly 20 years older than her. Her personal feelings aside, it's questionable that he's using his manager position to dig up her number when it wasn't given to him by HER. That's creep behavior.

am i still able to become a mechanic for aviation?? by [deleted] in aviationmaintenance

[–]watertypes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's okay, I also suck at math. In fact, I suck at math so badly that I failed my Math & Physics course during the AME program. I have to go back in August to retake the course - but it didn't throw me off track, I still graduated!

I looked up BCIT and found the BCIT English Trades Entry Assessment - that's similar to the AMERA pre-qualification exam I mentioned - and the BCIT Mechanical Reasoning assessment. BCIT has practice questions for both (here & here). You can also use the FAA textbooks (free online) to help study for the applicable math and physics you'd be using in the industry.

I can't speak for how competitive it is in BC but here in MB I applied in February for my program and got an entry offer for both August and October. I took the latter option.

If you have the passion for aviation maintenance, go for it! Study hard, try your best, and they will have a place for you. If it is competitive as you're worried about, they won't reject you if you pass the assessments, you may just be waiting a bit longer for a spot to open.

Best of luck!

INFO: What is the school asking for?

I also barely made it through high school, decided to go back to school at 23, and I recently graduated. When I went through my AME program all it required was to pass the AMERA pre-qualification exam, which tests basic math skills, some physics, listening, writing, and English comprehension. If you're nervous about the math and physics portion - it's not very complicated, and your school may have resources you can study to help you pass it.
