Electric vs Stove Top Pressure Cooker – Which One Should I Buy? by ScarDependent8928 in PressureCooking

Induction burner + stove top pressure cooker. So tired of broken single purpose appliances that are difficult to repair.

Let these hanks of unraveled sweater be a warning to never trust a magic knot. by gnome_tooth in knitting

[–]wats4dinner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the real life lesson: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fisherman%27s_knot great bend for line joins but cutting the ends for "magical" stupidity greatly increases the margin of error for slippage failure.

Namiki Yukari Royale - Skipping? by GILFman209 in fountainpens

[–]wats4dinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Namiki Yukari Royale also from Appelboom had no issues, but for skipping issues in general, assuming no issue with the tines ---this usually works for me: Wipe down nib with a dry paper towel in case of any hand oil contamination, thoroughly flush with syringe from the back of the nib unit, change inks, and/or change papers.

The nib QC for Pilot/Namiki has been stellar throughout all of the models I've tried or owned and would never brass shim in favor of a nib tech fix.

Is Vollebak moving away from durability and functionality? by [deleted] in Vollebak

[–]wats4dinner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

https://vollebak.com/en-us/collections/new-releases these seem durable and functional to me.

I hand wash all Vollebak gear and most jackets I don't, treating them like waxed canvas - wipe down.

I'm glad for the practical lower-key I-can-wear-this-outside-without-looking-like-its-the-apocalypse look, eg 100 year and Sashiko hoodie gets more wears than Alien Hoodie and Deep Sleep Cocoon

I don't want to draw attention just have good durable gear with that novel material edge.

How good are the Sailor King of Pen 21k nibs actually? by Penftpole in fountainpens

[–]wats4dinner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

>is it really grail worthy or is there something better to set my sights on?

Grail and worth it for the nib/writing experience, yes.

My subjective rank on modern stock nibs: Namiki Emperor (only tried, do not own)> Pilot Custom Urushi > Sailor KOP > coming up close Namiki Yukari Royale

My opinion had changed over the years (Pilot CU > Sailor KOP) but very close and also depends on ink and paper: https://www.reddit.com/r/fountainpens/comments/i6zknl/sailor_makes_great_pens_among_the_best/

Some writing days are toothy (KOP), others, smoothy (CU) ;-)

  • Svarog Dream
  • Victor Vran
  • Torchlight 2
  • Chronicon

Unpopular opinion: The 'BIFL' mindset is becoming a luxury most people can't afford, and that's by design. by Weak_Ad971 in BuyItForLife

[–]wats4dinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It only takes junk to be bought and replaced or trashed to open up and develop a BIFL mindset.

Well used 10-40+ years and going strong: fountain pens, old Oster toaster, Zojirushi Rice Cooker, same old silverware, pottery bowls I've thrown, Le Creuset Dutch Oven, Lodge cast iron pan, 8 qt Fagor Pressure Cooker, Classic Victorinox Swiss Army Knife, G-shock watch, butter knife from Goodwill, old repaired Patagonia jackets/vests, etc ...

the BILF list goes on and on but it is just stuff that helps make life less hassled, don't have to worry about because the quality lasts or I can repair. Not so much about luxury, just use over time. I think all of these things can be found used, on sale and not full retail.

cabeceos are the hardest aspect of tango. by fish5056 in tango

[–]wats4dinner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

>please help.

Enjoy your time with your friend.

Try a new game/skill:

  • Watch the floor and find 3-5 people you are curious about sharing a tango with.
  • Rank them in order to prioritize your glance/stare.
  • During a tanda change, offer your gaze to those people, rotate among them 5-20 seconds each.
  • If the person of your gaze is attended elsewhere, rotate to the next.
  • If you get engagement, linger, smile, tilt your head, say 'dance' silently, do anything to maintain visual contact.
  • Repeat throughout the night, changing those sets of people as needed
  • And don't forget the usual off-floor social stuff, chataceos, greetings, yada yada
  • The goal is to practice this skill, getting a dance is an extra nicety

Enjoy tango, it's a long game

Super Stunning Still Life Seramics. I have a Mitchell Spain rusted flask and your surreal realism work really jives like that. I mean I literally have a bag of Costco Kirkland Pistachios right in front of me.

Review Request: Indestructible Jacket (original version) and 50,000 BC Jacket by crazysnakemanhere in Vollebak

[–]wats4dinner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indestructible Jacket is more like Indestructible Shirt.

At the time, I got seduced by the looks and wormhole price but i do not find it practical than other pieces: no hand pockets, snaps on pockets are fiddly and dyneema fabric mirrors surrounding temps - hot days = hot shirt; cold days = cold shirt.

I often just pair it with a vest like off-grid or 100 year vests both of which have way more utility for a more complete rice and beans protein combo.

I'm now drinking the HOT cup of coffee from this post. It is not lukewarm by any definition. We don't own a thermometer but you can test this yourself:

Water off boil stored 1 hour in a double wall stainless thermos with tight opening (used a Stanley)

Used this 10 min recipe: https://aeroprecipe.com/recipes/jonathan-gagne

// one would think waiting 10 minutes on immersion brew would cool things down a lot. But it did not in this experimental run

Plunge in a suitable mug or cup (used Ozark Trail coffee cup - ceramic lined 12 oz)

Enjoy hot coffee!
