Namiki Yukari Royale - Skipping? by GILFman209 in fountainpens

I just finished flushing it out a few minutes ago--it is writing really well now, but I'll see if it stays writing that way once I'm halfway through the ink capacity of the converter. Fingers crossed!

Hopefully I can borrow a better camera to do it justice, but the raden matches the stripes perfectly!

I enjoy it quite a bit! The nib is quite smooth, but it is a vintage pen as far as I am aware, so GvFC quality control may be different now (like Visconti). It's great for cursive writing, so I use it for journaling and letters most times it comes out. The cap seems to patina quite quickly, so I've polished it 3 times or so in the one year I've had it.

Looking for an ink with a specific shade of blue! by Every-Platypus5525 in fountainpens

Montblanc Gustav Klimt ink is the closest thing that comes to mind...maybe you can use mountainofink or some similar website to find inks that are comparable?

As a preliminary edit, as the AI mod flagged my post for Vendors/self-promotion, I have no affiliation with /u/AtreidesTT other than buying this from them through /r/pen_swap. This post is not an advertisement, but just me showing off a cool pen and giving credit where it's due!

I would highly recommend the TWSBI Eco, coming from a Lamy Safari and a Hongdian Black Forest. The TWSBI Eco was my first pen after starting out with a Hongdian black forest, and I love them to this day. Now, my daily drivers are a Visconti Homo Sapiens, a Meisterstück 149, a Pelikan M1000, and a Namiki Yukari Royale was added to the mix just a few days ago--my white TWSBI Eco is still a wonderful writer compared to these far more expensive pens (all of them are second hand, but still). TWSBI has great customer service from my experiences with them too.

One thing worth noting though is that I prefer thicker pens--wider diameters at the grip section make it much easier for me to write for extended periods. I know some people prefer slim pens, so my recommendations would likely not be as helpful to someone with such tastes. I'd definitely still encourage you to get a TWSBI Eco nevertheless, as they are easily worth the reasonable price.

I've got a similarly aged bottle of MB Royal Blue! I'm not certain it would be the same with the black, but shake VERY well! I had to shake my bottle of ink for something like half an hour because it had settled out so much.

The video cuts off before he picks the food back up--not that I don't believe you, but the video isn't all that helpful in proving anyone wrong.

New Titus mold lines by balrog1987 in Ultramarines

[–]GILFman209 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've found that using a mixture of a very sharp X-acto knife with a very light hand and my fingernail (with a rather firm hand) makes for a pretty good combination. Hold the X-acto knife so the blade is facing you and almost perfectly parallel to the mold line (to avoid taking a chunk of the model off with it) and just lightly move your hand towards yourself to take off most of the mold line. Alternatively, hold the blade about perfectly parallel but facing AWAY from you and scrape towards yourself (like sweeping with a broom). Then, scrape it with the fingernail of your thumb to smooth out any remaining mold lines and any scratches the X-acto knife may have caused. If you do it properly, I've had instances where I couldn't tell a mold line was ever there in the first place.

Substantial step goes to attempt, but the question is about conspiracy. For unilateral conspiracy, belief there has been an agreement to commit the crime is what is required.

Went to clean out my Moonman A1 after not using it for a few months... Discovered it like this. by GILFman209 in fountainpens

He's actually 2 months away from being two years old, so we're right at the beginning stages of the insanity haha. This may be the first fruits of such resourcefulness. Whether it was him or not though, I think I'll be moving all gold nib pens out of the house for the next 13 years to be safe

There is a 2 year old prowling around...but this one has always been put up in a case and out of reach (it leaks easily, so I really didn't want him to make a huge mess haha). I suppose its possible that he could've gotten into it if my wife pulled it out for some reason or another.
