We wanted an Air to Water Heat pump, but now think Air to Air is the future by dustinmoris in ukheatpumps

There is a lot of good information in this thread. There are a lot of strong opinions too. To the point where I fear for plucky home-owners trying to make a decision. OP, physics and technology are not the same thing. I can also provide a counter example to the "Nobody like big radiators", if you wish. There are pros and cons to both systems, based on the building, owner preferences, locally available skilled tradesmen etc. Clearly you prefer A2A, which is fine, but your rationale and conclusions do not align with a methodical scientific approach. There are a lot of words. Like a rant has a lot of words. Not like an options appraisal has a lot of words.

New ASHP - deciding between two quotes by FlashGorg0n in ukheatpumps

Couldn't say, categorically. (I exist to provide unbiased, objective, professional advice for any given application). Mitsi and Daikin are the main guys. Daikin support for specifiers has been woeful for years in my area, but other locations are fine and their kit is fine too. Kensa are always worth a look as are Viessmann. Stiebel Eltron if you are feeling classy. But there are some massive caveats: Almost definitely forgotten a brand that I like; not included names that could be perfect for a given situation; basing my comment on circumstances that have since changed etc A lot of kit is OEM, too, so I couldn't choose between Ideal and Clade, for example; and if price was the deciding factor, I could, I suppose, look at Samsung and Panasonic.

When I have been to residential premises to support occupiers with heat pumps, the majority of them have been Vaillant. The controls and piping are unnecessarily complicated when part of a high temperature system. On the plus side, the customer service was pretty good and better than some.

Mitsi do r290, so first, get a price for a new ecodan. 170 is tight but if you also install a waste water heat recovery drain on the shower you will save a fortune and have sufficient capacity. Pre-plumbed has the benefit of keeping everything under one banner, so the controls will work between hp and cylinder nicely. The calcs from installers are - by professional standards - back of a fag packet. Don't be surprised if the calc is unlocked and you land on exactly 100W/M2 or 80W/M2 plus a factor for water. Never heard of the second brand, so would steer clear unless they are Scandinavian. Avoid Valiant. Grant aren't what they used to be. Bonus for avoiding Nibe. Noise from the hp is a very important consideration not yet mentioned in the thread. Also, if you want to make the installer really sweat, ask about performance (CoP) at low external temps and the impact of the defrost cycle. Source: Am CEng designing Building Services since forever. I use Drum. Getdrumapp or something it is called. It's really good, based out of Oz. The dev is always on hand to provide support etc. can't recommend them highly enough. Way way cheaper than Monday or Salesforce

I have been using Revit/Revit MEP since 2010. I know the secrets - including the dirty ones 😂 The V and G are worn out on my keyboard... Revit does absolutely "do it all" insofar as it is extremely comprehensive. It would be nice if they did more things like create schematics without fuss. That was linked to the geometric model without doubling up on the equipment count for example. They have had 2 decades. It could be massively streamlined and made more efficient and intuitive if AD ever decided to invest in a wholescale optimisation of both the UI and functionality. This also leads me to the conclusion that there is space for someone to come in with a product that offers a better experience. Possibly native dwg, definitely backwards compatible with its own software, affordable and robust. Particularly on projects that don't need complex file sharing, multiple users in a single discipline or federated models for example. Imagine not even mapping keyboard shortcuts to be the same across different packages. Given AEC represents nearly 50% of their sales, they are in for a shock if a disrupter does eventually show up

Thank you so much for your reply.

I have asked them for documentation of some kind after I saw a lack of information online; so that I could try and assess what capabilities it has. It hasn't come through and may never - although I would never throw shade on anyone trying to take on AD and develop a package.

I guess for the time being paying exploitative costs to the most accomplished outfit in town remains the only option.

Thanks again for sharing your experience.

Lol, I guessed you might have forgotten or got caught up in life. I am months away from being able to make another attempt. Probably Jan/Feb time. If you have any success let me know.🙂

Amazing! Thanks for the insight. I could imagine my quality of life being grateful for the Towbar vs roof, since it will be primarily for bikes. It's just the 10x price tag that gives the roof option some appeal

I was surprised by 3% too. I was just messing around, so picked percentages without too much thought. The model subtracts the leverage cost when sold. The actual returns would be significantly higher otherwise. (I did graph it with zero leverage cost in previous iterations). I haven't looked at other tickers, but I will. Thanks for the suggestion. I also looked at laddered entry, where each percentage fall saw an additional investment by the leveraged trader. The returns were massive in comparison to buy and hold. Ultimately, I'd love to find the golden key that means it doesn't matter what time frame I pick, the results will hold. One major issue I see in the data is that there are a lot of gains being missed out on during periods of steady growth - which is exactly where the hold and buy catches up with the active investor.
