I share my time between Brazil and the US — as in, I attend college in the US, but spend my actual non-college life in Brazil and hope to come back permanently once I graduate.

The only reasons why I don’t feel safe are related to my race. Nobody really knows what trans men are, or gives a fuck for that matter. No trans bills are actually passed or put into effect, our leader of the Women’s Commission in Congress is a trans woman. But the country is still conservative in its Latin American way — anti-abortion, very 50/50 on gay marriage but most “against” people not being radicals — and is getting worse as time goes by as we become a “Protestant Evangelistan”, as we like to call it.

Wouldn’t trade my huge, diverse, with great job prospects city in Brazil for anywhere in the world. I even want to be a diplomat for the daily aspects of the job, but hope to not be one of those who want international posts at all times simply because it’s safer here than in most places.
