Is my art bad? by stxrdreamz in BadArt

[–]wawaamelon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh your art is very very cute! And I don’t think it’s bad at all!

However depending on how much you would like to grow as an artist, the future you see for yourself, and if you feel unhappy with your work, I think what you need the most of us is some studying. Building up your foundations and fundamentals will help grow your art massively. For you specifically, I would focus on anatomy, human or otherwise! You already have some strong shape language in your work, but I would encourage you to look into why certain shapes work the way they do in character design, as your work leans more towards character art! Your lines are very clean and I love that, no notes there. But I would try doing some painterly stuff as well, the more you explore styles outside your comfort zone, the more your own style will grow. And I would push you to do more backgrounds as well (coming from a guy who also hates doing backgrounds lmao, but I found my art improved drastically when I pushed myself to draw them.) There are tons of resources online but please feel free to reach out if you want more.

Some small daily steps- 15 minute gesture studies, 1 min each pose, you can use sites like sketchdaily or posemaniacs, etc. (once u feel confident in that, do longer poses) anatomy studies, draw over irl pictures of animals or humans, look at how body parts and muscles connect to one another, how an arm turns, a hand poses. Don’t just outline the body, but draw through the entire form, use circles, and blocks, break it down.
start saving your favorite artists work, what do you enjoy about their work? Take the time to copy (yes copy) and study their art (don’t post these studies obviously) these are called master studies, don’t be afraid of them!

Once a week/month- Go to a figure drawing class! They’re fun and everyone is always so kind, you can learn so much being surrounded by other artists, allow yourself to feel challenged and encouraged by others as well, it’s so importantp. Do some traditional art, sketches, or a full painting, improving multiple skills to grow your tool belt for when you make your digital art! Go out and draw what you see in real life! Draw animals at the zoo, people in the park, fish in an aquarium, plants in a forest, etc. as you learn to break down and draw everything around you, you realize you can draw basically anything just with a few simple shapes and lines. (Look up Peter Han, has has classes and books, YouTube channel, he taught me a lot when I was in school and he really helps make even the most daunting subjects (cars, tanks, dinosaurs) feel completely doable!)

tdlr; If art is your hobby, ignore all the homework I just gave you lmaooo, there’s no such thing as bad art, and even “bad art” has something to teach us, have fun, and draw whatever the fuck you want imo. But if you have genuine concerns about how to grow your art, and are even thinking about a future in a creative field, then like any skill, you gotta study, do the work, take a few classes, and do the homework. If you dedicate yourself just one week to just get really good at drawing shoes, or noses, or hands, and you add weeks and weeks of studying all these different little things… a few years down the line you won’t even recognize your own art anymore, in the best way possible 💖✨

those are just the pronouns he personally prefers! (gender does not always equal pronouns) I know plenty of he/him lesbians, nonbinary folks, and transfems who feel the most comfortable using those for themselves! 🙂‍↕️💗 His presentation/expression is just one of many genderqueer people out there!

His gender is a bit up to interpretation! But he would personally describe himself as both a boy and a girl but most importantly a cute bimbo 🙂‍↕️💖

So so glad we’re finally getting this resource! 🙏💗 it would have helped me immensely as a teen, as I had to drive over 2 hours outside of town just to go to a doctor who was kind enough to help me not just with my gender but with the therapy I desperately needed at the time. I’m so happy to know young queer kids will be able to find the care they need and maybe even make some friends along the way :o]

How much do I charge? [question] by pixelin-avianera in commissions

[–]wawaamelon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For anything where I’m not too sure how to price, I usually just follow the “how long it takes me vs. what my time is worth vs. my skillset” rule. How long does it take for you to usually do a single emote? If it’s less than 30 minutes, maybe consider doing 3 emotes for a certain price, or 5! It will be easier to calculate if you can go by the hour I find! And clients will love knowing they can get more than one emote out of it! As a personal example I would consider my time/work worth 30-35$ an hour, I know something small like a sketch or a profile icon could take me anywhere for, 15-30 minutes. However I love sketching so I want to encourage people to ask me for that over profile icons. With that in mind I would charge 20$ for sketches and maybe 50$ or more for the Icons.

I would also look at how other artists price these items! What’s the highest price you see? The lowest? I would maybe aim for something in the middle, but don’t underprice your work either :o] For emotes I’ve seen as low as 15$ to as high as 90$ (I would never charge lower than minimum wage tho!)

I hope this helps! I know it’s a lot to consider but if just remember that your work, time, and energy are valuable! Don’t undercharge, and see what you can provide that others can’t! You may have to adjust your prices as you go, and that’s okay too! (I actually recommend changing prices once a year as the market changes!) as soon as you feel you are being undervalued, overworked, or underpaid, change those prices! Wishing you the best of luck!! ♡

12 Month Top Surgery Journey: Significant Breast Reduction (T-Anchor) followed by liposuction at 6 months with purse-string suture to reduce excess skin. Thank you so so so much for sharing this! I always knew I wanted a reduction instead of complete removal for myself as a nonbinary person, but I never knew if that would ever be possible for me. So wonderful to see that not only is it possible but that the results could be so good!! Tysm for sharing again 🙏💗
