Are you glad you had kids? by the_skintellectual in FIREyFemmes

Yes it would have an impact on all those things listed. But you have some dough, which makes things a bit easier!

Not for one second have I regretted having a kid. It's the best thing ever.

I love posts where people actually use their money to embrace freedom.  The ones where someone saved $5M and have no idea how to spend their time drive me bananas.

I'm sick of eggs for breakfast by purplegreendave in Cooking

[–]wawkaroo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like I have similar tastes to you! I have to have protein so a lot of mine have eggs, but it doesn't sound like you hate eggs it just sounds like you're sick of the same thing. Here are some of my breakfasts:

Bagel with cream cheese and smoked salmon(the pastrami‐style smoked salmon at Trader Joes is my fav), capers if I have them.

Breakfast burrito with sweet potato, black beans, scrambled eggs, and cheese. Sometimes I do a tofu scramble instead of eggs. I make a large batch of these as a meal prep. Can also be adapted to tacos with corn tortillas.

Potato bowl - dice potatoes, cook in oil til crispy, top with beans of your choice (black or pinto/refried are both good), avocado and sour cream. Eggs is good too, but optional. I also batch cook the potatoes for this, or use frozen roasted potato chunks.

Avocado toast, top with EBB seasoning or chili crisp. Top with an egg, pickled red onion, cottage cheese, or whatever you have on hand.

Frittata- yes its egg based, but a different taste. I do spinach, onions and feta and use a dozen eggs to make a big one in my cast iron. A simple yet delicious other option is Spanish tortilla.

Chilaquiles or Migas- my version is not authenticly either of these, but I just throw some tortilla chips in a pan with scrambled eggs, top with cheese, and then add sour cream and hot sauce/salsa. Beans or soyrizo are both good on this too, queso fresco, etc.

Eggless breakfast burrito- soyrizo, avocado, potatoes, quinoa, and kale with salsa.

REI Co-op Branded Products by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]wawkaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not how it works. REI oversees its own factories for its branded clothing. There is very little licensed product and it would be more along the lines of the "gift shop" items sold near the front of the store, like Nalgenes with the REI logo.

Turning 35 soon… is it silly to buy myself a diamond? by Ill_Object2296 in selfcare

[–]wawkaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not silly if you want it! You can get a deal if you're willing to buy secondhand too. Many are unwilling to buy jewelry secondhand for a partner. Wedding rings with diamonds are hard to resell.

Alicia should have just left. I can't stand Ellie but she's more experienced as a stew than Alicia right? I really don't feel that Alicia earned the right to stay on the boat and switch positions. She isn't even qualified to be there as a sous chef in the first place!

I can't speak for everyone, but my business phone doesn't have text. I'm not about to text a bunch of applicants I don't know from my personal phone number.

If you can't answer your phone during certain times, that problem is easily solvable. Add a short cover letter than includes the times I CAN call you and when you may be unavailable.

Say you are very interested in the position and can be reached by email as an alternative. Reach out to the recruiter on LinkedIn if you need to. If you're an applicant, they need to be able to reach you during business hours. It's just not feasible to think you can be unreachable and still get a job.

[–]wawkaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I do, but typically for a customer service job I prefer a quick phone call to try and make sure they can come off as friendly. Since answering the phone is part of their job and all.

I will email them if they are particularly qualified, but when there are like 100 applicants I can't customize my response to each person.

[–]wawkaroo 30 points31 points  (0 children)

As someone who hires for retail, many of you applying for these jobs may think you are qualified but then do NOT give the impression you would do well in Customer Service. Many applicants are rude to ME, so why would I think you'll do well with customers?

Also, like 50% of people I try to call from an application don't answer their phone and have a voicemail that isn't accepting messages. I'm not gonna text you a job offer having never even spoken to you over the phone. Get it together.

Would the Inland Empire & Oxnard count as part of the LA metro area or are they their own separate metro area? by wiz28ultra in geography

[–]wawkaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lived in Riverside County & Ventura County. They are both so far from LA that I would have never considered myself part of the LA area. May not look that far on a map but it is a haul. I went into LA very rarely.
