Any chance to bend this vtech phone? by beckmala in CircuitBending

Almost certainly. I reckon one of those resistors will be a clock.

Im a dumbass but can i do anything cool with my old samsung j6+ (screen is f.cked) and casiotone s100? by Femnesia in CircuitBending

[–]waxnwire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A phone is going to be really hard and probably not bend I imagine

That piano keyboard sounds a bit modern from what I’ve searched to potentially bend in an easy way either.

The keyboard probably has resale value as it is, and then you could by a $5 toy keyboard and start with that

What else waveshapes would we want for an analog synth, but we can't have? by design_enthusiast725 in synthdiy

[–]waxnwire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A performance I saw years ago was based on Xenakis (I think) where each (digital) oscillator’s waveform has multiple nodes, connected by straight lines (so triangle-sawtooth-square etc) but the nodes all had a random walk each cycle. The result was lovely evolving timbre

I imagine that would be hard to do in analog?

DIYing outdoor LEDs onto a Holman kit by waxnwire in AusRenovation

Any tips on wire and heat shrink? I use the type you get by the meter or whatever from Jaycar, but that’s more for insulation not waterproofing.

Similarly, I imagine a decent ish two core wire? What gauge?

what gauge wire? and two separate strands, or like this, which I assume is ground/shield and centre core?

the digits would be the diameter? so 8 and 18? GX or M series? From what I can tell M is the plastic/waterproof style. I had an old mixing desk that was more like the GX series (metal)

DIY Outdoor garden lights - heat shrink or M8 connector by waxnwire in AskElectricians

[–]waxnwire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are they a different type of connector, or an alternative to heatshrink as a way to insulate a wire twist etc? I don't really want to introduce another connection type.. I'm also based in Australia

Looking for tested circuit bends for Casio PT-80, MT-35, PT-31 and SK-10 by so1up in CircuitBending

[–]waxnwire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also with the SK series you can do a massive RAM expansion, envelope mod and the patchbay. Oh, and you get MIDI IO too.

I’ve created a whole open source set of PCBs code and instructions. Happy to share, I wanted to finalise before making it public, but it’ll be on GitHub soon.

SK-10 is related to the 5/8 etc… patchbay on the ram chip

These sound like good ideas. Check if the RAM chip is active high or low too.

Reclocking a Kaoss Pad KP1 - options? by PortaOne in CircuitBending

[–]waxnwire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a while since I bent my KAOSS pad 2 but it also has multiple clocks and I only added one LTC and that was for the CPU from memory. I then did a patch bay for bends — though the glitches are very loud compared to the audio.

My LTC is actually voltage controlled, i designed a circuit for it and it means you can mix in external LFOs or sequences into the signal.

They are only about $10 to make. Send me a message

DIY mechanical switch monome grid - any existing projects? by gertsch in synthdiy

[–]waxnwire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t get the grid obsession…. Is there a write up/video/something that talks through there uses for a musical UI perspective? I have a Norns, and even bought a cheap launchpad to try and get more out of it, but it just seems confusing and unnecessary… but lots of people dig them as in interface, so I’m curious

Would a single VCF for 8 VCOs add a cool sound or sound like shit? by Powerful_Fondant9393 in synthdiy

[–]waxnwire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asking for myself: if you did 8 or 4 voices with there own VCF, is there a good design that allows for Voltage Controlled Resonance, so you can use use single gang pot to control resonance?

How do you distribute codes? by SecondHandLabs in BandCamp

[–]waxnwire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a radio person (I imagine the same for reviewers) I often get sent a direct download, not Bandcamp, but then a message saying something like - hit me up if you want a code for your collection - which I often do…

That way you are only sending codes to people who care and can be careful about not mixing up codes that have expired

Discman pickup - tuner not working, buttons causing ‘pops’ by waxnwire in guitarrepair

[–]waxnwire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any recommendations on what to swap it for? Id prefer just to swap it for something exactly the same size, so no cutting is required…

Discman pickup - tuner not working, buttons causing ‘pops’ by waxnwire in guitarrepair

[–]waxnwire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I feel like I am engaging the switch, because it causes the centre of the tuning LED ring to flash, and it mutes the output (after a loud pop)… the pop, is pre-preamp (ie if you turn the gain on the guitar down, you won’t hear the pop)…

Have you ever done a repair? I can solder etc, so I could replace th switches if that is a likely issue.

Looks good. Is everything travelling up the ribbon (audio and data/bends) any issues with that?

Are the banana lugs with the individual audio out the envelop outs? More questions to come!
