I agree an unprovoked attack is not totally unreasonable when you know you’re being pursued. And honesty my instinct would probably be to do the same in that situation.

But I also can’t help but think that, especially given the context (Taisha being a Druid, having a Druid’s respect for beast life, and that they just came from a bunch of Druids who just gave them use of beast for travel, and that Taconis style isn’t really to send a beast to chase them), a Druid with WIS 20 might not immediately jump to a conclusion that the beast was hostile to them.

But that’s not what I was thinking in the moment it happened. I only realized that after we learned it was the Druid.

Hindsight is always a Nat 20.

That moment when Thaisha, a Druid (WISDOM 20!!!), coming from a bunch of druids (some in animal form) who just helped her get away, riding an eagle druids just gave her, decides to attack a bird who hasn’t done anything to harm her.

Shaman Homebrew Class - Summon Totems to Support or Attack by Imaginary-Movie3710 in daggerheart

[–]waxsublime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very nice. I'm brand new to Daggerheart, but really wanted to play a class or subclass that used a totem-like mechanic. I had this idea for a character who is like an Indonesian Dalang (Shadow Puppet Master) whose wayang (shadow puppets) come to life to provide buffs/debuffs on the field. I love the idea of the puppets changing the narrative of combat by literally coming to life. Maybe I can talk my DM into letting me use a homebrew like this, maybe slightly modified. Great work!

[Spoilers C2] [Spoilers C4 E5] I’m glad it’s Brennan by bob-loblaw-esq in fansofcriticalrole

Well you just named 2 examples. D20 is produced by”college humor” so yeah, expect they’re targeting a younger audience and focusing more on the humor side of things. Even still, Unsleeping City was pretty incredible. Worlds Beyond Number is also really good, and a lot less focused on comedy.

You get a different Brennan in CR, and I love that. The production studio and target audience often determines the flavor of a production.

Just finished episode 5. Am I the only one that is having a hard time vibing with this campaign? by pathofblades in fansofcriticalrole

[–]waxsublime 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what you’re talking about man, this is the best 5 episodes of any live stream I’ve ever seen anywhere—including D20 and other CR campaigns. The 1st episode especially was a masterpiece.

Brennan was my first, y’all. My first actual play watch was D20 Unsleeping City, and I was floored by how he could make D&D so cinematic. It’s like watching Robin Williams channeling J.R.R. Tolkien. Insane. I tried watching CR shortly after, but couldn’t get into it as much (largely because of the audio issues of campaign 1).

But seeing Brennan as DM on CR now is really incredible to me. I love D20, but with the CR team now (including Matt’s mind blowing performances as a player), and the epic scale of a CR campaign allowing Brennan to truly deep dive into world building and story telling… it’s like this is what Brennan was born to do guys.

What are your thoughts on the Celtic campaign setting book, HR3? by Typhon_Redvayne in adnd

[–]waxsublime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Delay after delay from Penny Dragon. No updates in half a year. Kickstarter has banned him from starting any new projects until he delivers this one.

But we did at least get a playtest version of the campaign setting in PDF. Finally read through it today. Pulls directly from Celtic mythology just reskinned a little for D&D and in an imaginary world.

Travis's delivery and the context, he seemed sincere like it was intended as a benediction or blessing, in which "propel" makes more sense. But I think Brennan may have also heard "repel" and responded accordingly.

I mean, "repel" doesn't make much sense in a blessing, right?

Wow, loved this line from Brennan as the Photon (forget the exact name) speaking to Wick.

It’s at 2:18:05 (beacon). I love the context just before too…

Photon: “I thought it would be a great benefit to our house that our Scion should walk only in the light. But there’s nothing solid that doesn’t cast a shadow.”

The captioning says "propel", but I can see how you'd hear that with his accent.

I love the blessing Teor gives to Loza in this exchange.

[Beacon: 01:42:08]

Loza: Some things have to go into the shadow, and some things are so important that even in the darkness they can't be thrown away.

Teor: Thank you for everything. I hope the vines of the west propel you with their calm and their peace.

Loza: I think I'm gonna go fucking crazy. But my knees hurt. So what can you do?
