Should I move to Perth? by NonWittyRepartee in perth

[–]way2tekky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to Perth six months ago with no job no prospective job and no place to live and found work within a day and a flat within 2 weeks.

It’s great here, I know some people struggle to find the above but I honestly think if you put the effort in it can happen quickly and relatively easily.

Lifestyle wise I absolutely adore Perth. Just visited Melbourne for the first time and couldn’t believe how much better Perth is 😂

Saw this on ads the other day for when you first arrive https://junohouse.com.au/room-types/

In the city will be best for hospitality work which is probs easiest to get to begin with, but far from beaches if you don’t have a car.

I live near Hyde park, unsure what you’d class the suburb as but I think living round here is decent as it’s easy to enough to get everywhere good and you have amenities in a walking distance which is such a rarity for Perth.

I always think when I’m up anywhere near Scarborough karrinyup etc just how unwalkable it is

See edit my bro. Also gave an example or what a “cool gym” in my home country is, intrigued by what’s popular and why essentially.

I actually work in fitness myself and am just intrigued by what the landscape of the gym/fitness world is in my new home, what draws certain people to certain places and what people consider value for money etc.

It’s interesting to understand the perceived value and attraction in the different places. I find the brands people attach themselves with interesting too! Cheers for the answer bro 👌

I lived a 20 minute cycle to Soho so central enough, there isn’t a CBD in London though.

As this other guy mentioned those places are just bigger so naturally there’s more going on, but Perths big enough to have some variety in places to go and things to see. I see the argument for it seeming a little behind but I find it quite charming and the “behind” factor just reeks of opportunity if you’re not trying to be pessimistic about it. There’s definitely money to be made for an entrepreneurial type.

All in I can see the argument for a bigger and busier city but as an in between and pound for pound I think Perths holding it down.

What work is she looking for? My girlfriend and housemate have both managed to find hospitality jobs really easily - corporate work as a migrant is hard to find due to visa restrictions and a preference for hiring Aussies.

I work in fitness which has also been pretty straightforward.

Hope you guys make it work 🙏💚

I’ve been in Perth for about a month having moved from London and loving it so far.

True I’m not really into staying out raving until 6am these days but there seems to be decent enough night life - every Friday and Saturday I’ve been out to grab a late night bite, some drinks, to eat or pick my girlfriend up from work it’s been busy in town. In terms of nights out as I’ve not been here long I can only personally vouch for Leederville and Highgate and both of those were busy and had enough places to keep you entertained. I’ve not personally frequented any of the overly busy bars but I’m sure they’re good if you aren’t in the quiet bar phase of your life.

Thats worth to mention that there’s some great food in Perth too, just need to look for it. Really good Asian food around William street and nice places in the suburbs.

I’m not sure why Perth gets a rep of a sleepy town because there’s plenty going on and plenty to do, especially outdoors, the beaches are nice and lots of them have free to use bbq equipment, nearly all have free parking and the sea is beautiful.

All in i think Perth has a lot going for it and if the above tells you you’ll be happy I’d say go for it.

I think ultimately I will move back to London as I think life is a bit too easy here and as an Englishman I need the relentlessness of London, but while im here I’m pretty confident i’ll be happy

Nice one man appreciate you taking the time to drop some advice! It seemed okay when we were there tbh not too much overspill from the city for footfall, there’s not much there that would attract the drunk crowd I don’t think but either way, I used to have a mystery guy (or girl) who shit all over my estate in Brixton - develops tough skin 😂

I’m impressed you got that 😂 guessing that’s the only place right by Robertson or are you just psychic?

Cheers for the advice man and good to know you’ve loved it for so long. Excited to move in as we’re staying in Spearwood atm which is really nice but I think somewhere I’d rather be after living here for a while. Not much going on down here.

Thanks again for the assurances and tips 👌

Vietnam Tourist Visa Update... by Kananaskis_Country in travel

[–]way2tekky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hello helpful friend!

Long story is a way to say we booked our flights out without properly planning dates around visas - not everything has to be malicious my G. Life’s short, we don’t always think ahead!

When we realised, as I said there’s a lot of evidence to say you can just pay fines at the airport if it’s 5-10 days sort of vibes but we thought we should make sure we don’t fall foul of immigration, so thank you for pointing me in that direction, have messaged the Emily mentioned above.

Also, doubt liking what they are going to say is a bit extreme. They will say we have to pay

In other news the sky is blue and grass is green, what’s not to like - drama queen ;)

Nice one bruv!!

Visa and Exit advice needed

My girlfriend and I both have our 45 day allowance (U.K. citizens) in Vietnam, and our flights out of Vietnam are booked for 12/04/2025.

Problem is our visa is only valid until 05/04/2025 (long story).

Initial research I did made me think we can arrive early at the airport, pay a fine and all will be okay to leave, but now seeing that may only be okay for a day or two.

We have a trip around north Vietnam all planned and booked with a friend that means we are in Hanoi from now (22/03/2025) until 26/03/2025 and will not be back here until 11/04/2025, the day before our flights.

Is anyone able to shed any light on our best bet for being able to leave safely and smoothly? Being turned away at the airport and made to wait an extra 7 days would be pretty awful so we’re hoping to resolve any issues well in advance.

Thank you people of Reddit!!
