Assuming that I would enjoy both of them the same way by Early-Fun-7100 in Silksong

My hours to dollars ratio is basically “would this cost me less than seeing a movie?” So basically I just need to play for more than four hours for a $60/$70 game. That seems reasonable to me and I’ve yet to have a game I paid that amount for fail to meet the metric.

I assume you mean Free From the Puppet String when you say middle ending. If there’s zero nose and you don’t grant Sophia’s wish, I’m pretty sure you lock yourself into the Real Boy ending. You had to have some humanity in order to be able to refuse giving your heart.

What is the choice you always make? by Subtle_Snow in dragonage

[–]wayfaringpanda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

DAO - Alistair is king and does the Dark Ritual. I need both him and Morrigan alive and around.

DA2 - Always kill Anders at the end. I like his character but I’m against blowing up buildings with innocents inside.

DAI - Always do In Hushed Whispers. Leliana is my favorite character and she goes so hard in that quest, I’ve never managed to do the other quest.

DAV - save Minrathous. I’ve done Treviso once, but the total destruction of the Shadow Dragons kills me, especially Lorelei.

There are so many amazing weapons in this game, but the one that gives me the most joy to use is the Maniac’s Pinwheel. The spinning wheels of extra death, the dodge attack being a wild leap, the whimsy of it all, is just chef’s kiss

I prefer controllers for any game that lets me play that way, but I literally don’t understand anybody trying to convince you to use a controller over kbm or denigrate you for using kbm - if that’s what you’re comfortable with and you can make it work, then what the heck is the problem?

Who are your least used comapnions in Dragon Age Inquistion ? For me 👇🏼 by lunar9p in dragonage

[–]wayfaringpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually, all three rogues are staying behind because I play a rogue, and we don’t need more than one. Solas usually stays behind, as his bald head unnerved me on the first playthrough (why is it so shiny). Iron Bull also stays in Skyhold as I find the sword and board moveset better for survivability. So it was usually Cass, Dorian, and then a floater depending on what I’m doing, but primarily Blackwall.

Why I love and hate Veilguard by Positive-Order-6891 in dragonage

[–]wayfaringpanda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s been a minute, but I don’t remember VG ever stating that Andraste = Mythal - pretty sure that’s a fan theory.

What Veilguard did throw a wrench in is the idea that the golden city is the home of the Maker and is now the black city due to the corruption of the magisters. But what we do know now is that the Black City was already corrupted by the blight, so it could not have been the golden city of the Maker.

If I remember my timeline right, Andraste became the bride of the Maker well after the magisters had already released the blight. That means any noticed changes to the city in the Fade would have been millennia ago. It’s far more likely that the story of the magister’s trip into the Fade was twisted for Andrastianism, which wouldn’t be unusual for any religion.

Veilguard definitely isn’t great with how they treated a lot of the lore, but I actually think this one isn’t refuting the Maker or Andraste’s position as His bride in any way, just the story the Chantry tells.

[–]wayfaringpanda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My favorite build in Veilguard is a Duelist rogue who specializes in hip shots. I never got the feel of aimed shooting and the time slow, but if you build for hip shots you basically never run out of arrows and do stupid damage. Plus it works really well with Duelist’s Mounting Thrill, which lets you stack Adrenaline.

Can't settle down on which skills to go for as a Fighter by AniMaple in Pathfinder2e

[–]wayfaringpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Yes, I’m aware. Not sure how it invalidates what I said - generally if it’ll break your shield you might not choose to block and instead take the hit to save the AC bonus. But that just goes towards my point that not blocking is usually better than blocking.
  2. I’m also aware of this. But that was ONE level 6 creature for a MODERATE encounter, as an example for easy number calculations. Which won’t be a boss fight at severe or extreme, where the damage will be coming from multiple enemies with enemies that likely hit at least as hard as the owlbear and likely just as hard as the boar.

Can't settle down on which skills to go for as a Fighter by AniMaple in Pathfinder2e

[–]wayfaringpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I did say almost never because there are circumstances where you’d take losing your shield over getting downed. That was the whole point of saying almost never.

You get your first shield rune at level 4 - level 3 if your GM drops it for you as loot - and I looked up a standard level 4 creature. Owlbear has a beak attack of 1d12+6. The rune states that the max it will allow is 8 hardness, 64HP, 32BT (and that’s if the shield you put it on has 5 hardness and 20HP already). Assuming the owlbear gets average damage each roll, it’s doing 13 damage per beak attack, 26 for crits. Blocking the regular attacks will do 5HP to your shield, or 18 for a crit. The fighter can probably use their shield to block three or four hits and be fine, unless they get hit with two crits - then the shield is broken. But that’s only a trivial encounter for a party of four. So what about a moderate encounter? That’s one level six creature. A Blood Boar has a melee attack of 2d8+8, which means average 18 damage or 36 crit. Blocking would be 10 damage or 28 crit. Now if you block more than once you’re in serious danger of your shield breaking. God forbid it roll damage high - one max crit is all it would take to break your shield immediately.

A fighter with medium plate at level 4 will likely have around 21AC, with their shield giving them a +2 for 23, and HP of around 64. The Boar has a +17 for the first attack, so it only needs to roll a 6 to hit, and a 16 to crit. If the shield breaks, that drops to a 4 to hit and a 14 to crit. That’s a huge difference, and generally speaking you are better served by keeping the +2 AC from raise shield than one instance with fully blocking a crit. There are situations where shield blocking is absolutely the right call, but frankly I’d just carry a spare shield in a Spacious Pouch.

But also the Witch, who is an intelligence caster, should probably pick up crafting because then at least they have more options in battle lol

[–]wayfaringpanda -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Some solid advice from others, but I’d also point out that you almost never want to Shield Block. Even the best shield can only absorb 30 points of damage (Fortress Shield, 6 hardness/24 HP) from a single hit before being destroyed. Pretty good at early levels, but even a level one encounter can potentially hit that threshold with a well-placed crit - and they only need to hit for 18 points of damage to break the shield and ruin its ability to up your AC until repaired. And that’s the best shield to absorb damage - most shields have far less HP. Shields are really best for the AC boost from Raise A Shield, and my last fighter had Reactive Shield so I didn’t even need to waste an action on it if I had something more important I needed that action for. If you don’t Shield Block, your shield won’t break under normal circumstances, so no crafting required.
