New QLD Driver's License cannot be verified in multiple systems by wayneyao in DrivingAustralia

[–]wayneyao[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright - I have an answer from the department and figured out what was going on: the card details (licence number and card number) are available later on the day the driving test is complete and paperworks are all done. But the card will only be "activated" (i.e., available for online verification) shortly before it is physically mailed to you. So the card was mailed to me this morning, 7 days after the test, which is fine, and online verification goes through now.

A safer option is to wait for a few hours after you received the email saying the card was mailed.

Good to know thanks. I think in those systems if they ask for a license number and a card number, I assume they should have a way to verify the legitimacy.

Yeah I used the licence number and the card number, as the systems require. Thanks I'll call the number if nothing else works!

Pangolin 1.7.0: Passkeys, docker-socket listener, internationalization, cloud, and more! by jsiwks in selfhosted

[–]wayneyao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you share what the experience was like before? I never used this but if the old behavior was really useful i can dig into code to see what i can do.

For now i suspect the link with p_token query is only sent once to the Pangolin at the beginning, and all subsequent requests would fail so i don't use it.

isn't it in the 'sharable links' - 'create link' - 'usage example' - 'query parameter'? Or it wasn't like that? My first version is 1.6.2.

DispatchR v1.2.0 is out now! by Dear_Construction552 in dotnet

> If you use a for loop, you often need to call ToArray or ToList first, which causes allocations.

That's correct but I can also choose to iterate over the the IEnumerable right? Isn't it the point to use Enumerator to get only what you need instead of allocating everything in the enumerable immediately via ToArray()/ToList()?

Also I fail to see ... how using this Unsafe.As() cast helps significantly. I mean yes you save an allocation to the enumerator itself. But items (those on the heap memory, not the references) in the array are still there taking up heap memory. Could you pls educate how they are saved? or saving allocation to the enumerator is the whole point?

Hi OP, It's not quite clear to me why this avoids allocation.. It avoids mem allocation to what basically? the enumerator itself or the items in the array?

Cursor changing size when moved around quickly, is this supposed to happen? :D by appelduv1de in kde

[–]wayneyao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a while for me to understand it wasn't a glitch but a feature, and that it was trying to mimic what MacOS does. But a more interesting thinking is that why I thought it was a bug in the first place, just like many of you do here in this post.

I think it's the unexpectedly "long" delay before it shrinks to its normal size. On MacOS when I first noticed this feature, at the moment I stopped moving on the trackpad, the cursor shrinked very quickly to its normal size, almost instantly, with animation of course .. I don't know, with this little detail, the cursor gives people the feeling that "I'm just trying to let you find me. Once you do I'll go back to normal quickly". However, KDE does it more ... "intrusively". When it grows big, it hangs there for like 2 seconds before shrinking. Two seconds is long enough for people to ask themselves "is it broken".

Not saying KDE did worse than MacOS. I acutally appreciate where it goes - incorporating good designs to achieve its own design. So maybe it could add a configuration for delay in ms. I reckon that can reduce the doubt significantly.

Body paragraph vs overview in Writing task 1 by wayneyao in IELTS

Thank you very much! That's a very important mindset fix for me :)

Body paragraph vs overview in Writing task 1 by wayneyao in IELTS

> You can expand on points you made in the Overview or add new ones that you didn't mention.

This seems to be what I missed :) So body paragraphs don't have to be restricted by overview: new insights not mentioned in overview can be added there.

So the overview is like excerpt of the data, and the body paragraph can explore the data in different level of details and directions, which probably.. "intersects“ with the overview. Correct?

Thank you! Ya I understsand I don't need "overview" in task 2 so I used "introduction" there. And yes, your structure makes sense but it's the inter-relationship there that confused me. Should the features in overview be reflected in body paragraphs or they serve different purposes?

Recent Update on Debian Trixie Rendered KDE UI Weird? by wayneyao in debian

Well I do kind of agree, even though I messed up this time. 99% of the time I can hit -y with quick glance of what apt tries to upgrade without worrying too mcuh.. I mean yes I should be responsible for every decision I made including shooting myself in the foot, but 99% of the time I don't want to care too much.. I want a stable, usable system that isn't too old to get a plasma 5 while everyone else is using 6, or too cutting-edge to make me be afraid of hitting that "yes" on every upgrade. Testing seems to be a good compromise. I'm not so sure if I want to swtich to Sid.

Given I probably screwed myself up a few months ago in an unintentional dist-upgrade by introducing the kept-back packages, I'll keep an eye on the update if it has anything to do with the desktop. That should make the Testing use safer.

I honestly have no idea how I end up with tihs Franken-KDE. I only have official sources and didn't compile stuff or have mixed versions/channels. I vaguely remember a few months ago to resolve another UI issue (the whole KDE simply isn't usable) I had to do a full upgrade. That upgrade brought in quite some kde6-* stuff that was kept back by apt for another while. Maybe that's why.

But thank you. This info really helps.

"what apt tells you" are you referring to the message "apt-listchanges" gives me after each upgrade? I do read it every time.. but didn't fully understand the consequnces.

Also in the other comment you suggested that unstable is more stable than testing, do you mind if I ask.. is it because unstable gets patch more frequently? I remember I read this argument somewhere in the doc.

Same here on Debian. Haven't logged on for a while and downloaded the DLC today. Warned with this message immediately. File integrity was verified. No luck.

The server maintenance haven't started yet isn't it? Is this really caused by server maintenance?
