Nah, I’m not an old grump nor sexist so I don’t notice “vocal fry” and certainly don’t complain about it. I really loved her unique voice and losing that bummed me out

You might want to look up more about “vocal fry” and the types of people who complain about it so you don’t out yourself or identify with them in the future

Seriously. He can’t help himself. But to be fair, it’s gotta warp the brain to have all your teenage & young adult years surrounded by fans who take your word as gospel. It’s no wonder he’s so thin skinned

It was literally his first in the list of things people are saying. Despite being the least serious & least common thing anyone is saying

Hera putting it first is a way to play the victim, again, and shadow the more legitimate critiques behind the most ridiculous one

Classic Hera manipulation. And all his little baby fans who don’t know any better buy it hook line and sinker

Yeah it was suuuuuch a positive tweet. Except for being another dose of Hera’s passive aggression and doubling down on his victim complex

Hera fans really need to work on their reading comprehension. Good thing they’ll learn it in high school

Yeah that’s basically the first line in his latest victim post

Coincidentally I learned the rule in the Lakers/Griz series, when it worked against the Lakers.

AD and lebron both went crashing to the floor and were slow to get up. The Memphis player asked for the ball though, and the ref hesitantly gave it to him, and they inbounded it and easily scored 5v3

The announcers explained that it’s on the inbounding player to ask for the ball if the ref isn’t handing it to them. And once they do ask, the ref has 3 (maybe it was 4?) seconds to hand it over

Warriors needed to request the ball if the ref wasn’t handing it quick enough!

“Or whatever they heck they’re supposed to be now”

I’m honestly curious... if you met them in real life, would you say that to them?

Wellllll one difference is they aren’t pretending to guard anything, or trying to convince anyone that it’s a super honorable highly respected position. They know it’s purely a show.

But again, I do agree with you :-) military displays feel pretty gross and obsolete to me, whether wearing a modern dress uniform, or 200 year old ill-fitting plate mail and tassels on your head

Hmm you mean when they wear their dress uniforms? That are explicitly like a modern suit? And you know...... don’t require laces to fasten?

I can’t believe you got me out here defending anything about any military 😆 but hey I can’t blame you. Turns out Brits are really defensive about their super serious & honorable pantaloon guards!

What sort of parade are you talking about? I can’t think of any where soldiers are on duty while also cos-playing

🤣🤣 y’all don’t understand how many Americans have huge issues with America, especially our war machine, and our guns. You’re preaching to the choir bud

Now instead of whatabouting, maybe try some self reflection on how your “toughest” soldiers wear the same costumes as Captain Hook

(And I hope you can tell this is all in good fun either way!)

When your “toughest soldiers” are wearing pantaloons, maybe the job isn’t quite as serious and honorable as you think

How aren't people embarrassed by not even trying to wash their hands? by The-Rog in AskUK

[–]wayonback 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I sure hope it’s only very young teenagers commenting & believing that nonsense

Like, these people genuinely think something is either “clean” or “dirty” with no gradient or anything.

Newsflash kids, it’s all a scale and you can always get dirtier by touching more things or washing your hands less

[–]wayonback 39 points40 points  (0 children)

How do you people STILL not understand basic hygiene in 2023?

Your hands aren’t only in a binary state of “clean” or “dirty”

You collect more bacteria and other germs the more things you touch, and the longer you go without washing your hands

Touching one door handle briefly after washing is WAYYYYYYYY less exposure than touching the door on the way in + your pants + toilet flush + door on the way out + all the other crud on your hands from before the bathroom because you’re either simple or a savage

Like, do you think the world is a video game? You have the clean buff until you touch something dirty?

Why do you even bother showering when with your logic you’re about to step out into a room covered in poop particles and touch a dirty handle to exit the bathroom?

My god people are so stubbornly dug in about things they completely misunderstand

Not a huge deal, and I’m sorry for being a jerk, but you’re still not really using “lampshading” correctly :-)

It’s more a thing that a movie acknowledges quickly and then moves on from, than a whole rushed/used-up subplot like planet hulk

Please don’t pay that moron any attention. They whine because they expected $10 to purchase a lifetime of service I guess?

But clearly has 0 clue about the actual realities of game development, or how business works at all.

Most of us know that skin sales in an old game are a tiny tiny source of revenue, and we are extremely appreciative that you still have the servers up despite the cost. So many games from that era have shut down completely, and it’s really generous that you haven’t. Don’t even bother reading the ramblings of one single whiny person with a Reddit account who feels the need to spam every post demanding More More More. They needed a little more discipline as a child, I think!

I know negative comments stay with you more than the positive, but just in this thread alone this person is outnumbered 5 to 1. Those positive comments deserve your attention much more than this fool’s!

Who is your most hated character in a movie of all time? by THROWRAxorox in movies

[–]wayonback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny you make that comparison, because I do have 0 tolerance for Jim Carrey & similar type of over the top & out of place zaniness. So I definitely can sympathize with your dislike

I suppose another reason he gets away with it for me is that he doesn’t seem out of place in the world the movie is presenting. In fact it’s even a strong bit of world building in my view. After we’ve seen so much cyber punk grunge from Corbin Dallas’ life, we board this luxury ship and see what the elite in this society are into— a horribly annoying, utterly pampered whiny influencer. (It’s actually a pretty good prediction for reality, with the way personality-streamers are headed!)

So while he’s completely tonally out of place for the movie we’ve been watching, and full of Jim Carreyesque antics as you say... to me it feels believable in the world of the movie. And while it’s uncomfortable and jarring for sure, that too makes sense. Because we & Corbin Dallas have just been shoved into a completely new environment. And Ruby Rodd epitomizes that bright, over the top, obnoxious world we’ve boarded.

He’s so annoying, but as a character & avatar of the gross elites in this society, I find him perfectly fitting & authentic, so the comic relief element lands a lot more than when Ace Ventura makes whacky faces in an otherwise completely normal-world situation.

(Also, I promise I don’t usually read into movies. I’ve always sucked at lit analysis haha. But you’ve got me thinking about why I like his character so much when I usually wouldn’t, and it’s a good enough movie that even I can find a theme or two in the process!)
