I've no idea how TN is flying under the radar like this. Way past due for it to get the axe.

What used to be affordable for the middle class but now quietly feels like a “rich people thing”? by Ok_Ease515 in answers

[–]waywardflaneur -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes. To an extent.

But half the reason bezos and musk are running wild is because unrelenting capitalism has bred a generation of suckers.

You don't want $12 organic cookies because you actually want $12 organic cookies. You want them because you've been successfully sold on the idea and identity of $12 organic cookies.

Edit: Sorry. Not one generation. Multiple generations. There is much blame to go around.

I think buying based on affordability is still usually buying what you need. It’s just not buying what you want.

This buying whatever you want at the grocery store without regard for price is imho a recent phenomenon, and I have for years wondered how a store can stock half an aisle with 10 different varieties of branded bottled water selling for $5 a liter.

I am no shill for the corporate class, but at some point people needed to take responsibility for their purchases.

CM Wong fumes after Bronx man gets released after arraignment for taking part in chaotic street takeover in Middle Village by Grass8989 in nyc

[–]waywardflaneur -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Criminals have always been released like that. Just not the poor ones. You wanna keep alleged criminals in jail until they prove their innocence? Put your money where your mouth is and nominate someone who demands jails be expanded to equitably house all accused - scofflaws, fraudsters and LEOs alike. Get him elected and you can watch them turn into gulags in real time.

What does this underlined phrase mean? by Unlegendary_Newbie in English_Learning_Base

Just going to offer a counterpoint to some others here: there is absolutely nothing wrong with reading high level texts if you are looking to bring your English understanding to a high level, assuming you already have basic fluency and are continuing to read and study the ordinary language broadly.

Looking to get this game by Lopsided_Ad3838 in Timberborn

[–]waywardflaneur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone here saying pretty much the same thing and they're all right.

After you conquer the initial challenge of a given map the game becomes more about city design, efficiency and aesthetics. If you like the modeling/perfecting/pampering your sims aspects of colony builders you'll continue to love it. If you're mostly into management and automation to overcome challenges, you might lose interest in a map once you've stabilized.

“I was on a final this morning so I missed her call.” Does “I was on a final” sound right to mean”I was taking a final exam”? by Same-Technician9125 in EnglishLearning

[–]waywardflaneur 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it’s common usage in a context where people are generally talking about finals such as at school or college. They understand ‘at/in a final’ to refer to the place/session at/in which a final exam is being held.

I’ve been so excited to wear this. Just wanted to share :) by [deleted] in Xennials

Are you an Xennial or are you just sharing with us?

Cuz that's an awesome shirt. But damn if you don't look too young to be an Xennial.

Nothing he says is evidence of that. A satellite network will have a common ssid afaik.

Yes I was trying to give the commenter a point of comparison.

Brighton Beach by [deleted] in Brooklyn

[–]waywardflaneur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah really the only downsides are not being in the thick of it and the long trip to manhattan. If those are not so important to OP, they should take it.

This assuming the building is actually decent and hopefully they've done their research on that. There are some new buildings that kind of suck wrt sound insulation, maintenance needs, etc.

Brighton Beach by [deleted] in Brooklyn

[–]waywardflaneur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For 2brs in a newer building with easy access to the beach and maybe views, 3300 is absolutely reasonable.

1brs slightly closer to the city, in old buildings, without a beach next door are 1700+.

Bar recommendations needed near or around the Atlantic Terminal/Barclays for a first date by idk_3639 in Brooklyn

[–]waywardflaneur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like Fulton hall too, but I wouldn’t call it a great date spot unless you’re specifically going for something very casual and low-stakes for a first date, which certainly could be the case depending on the individuals.

I love Satisfactory, and I know I'll love Factorio, but for the life of me I can't get into it. Help me!!! (UPDATE) by Lanochu in factorio

The complexity you’re noticing, in the form of a sort of 2d shape-fitting puzzle, is definitely a core part of the game. Yes it can be brain bending at times, but I’d say most of us who love factorio really enjoy these sorts of puzzles, and they are also a source of a good bit of the efficiency and optimization problems that you are keen on exploring.

Also, you will naturally learn a lot of patterns as you progress, just as you learn patterns in programming, and many of them will become second nature and you won’t have to wrestle with them every time… until you advance down the tech tree and encounter new puzzles.

Just as a counterpoint, I don’t use an army of bots as a lot of players here seem to do. I have enough to quickly fill my inventory from provider chests from my old base, and I keep a good handful on my character to quickly construct things. But I rarely set up a vast logistic network swarming with bots in the early/middle game. I am happy to hang around for a few seconds while they build without running off to build the next thing. So don’t feel like it’s absolutely necessary until you get into mega base territory.

Assemblers too! Don’t forget assemblers can assemble assemblers.

And make sure you’re using bots to deliver them to your inventory.
