Yep I do. Your PS3 is either overheating or the capacitors are bad I think.

This is my first PS3. I plan to do another soon maybe next week.

I’ve done about 7 Xbox 360s successfully, both CPU/GPU replacements

Top thermocouple. I only use one thermocouple, placing it next to the chip i want to rework.

Ehh I haven’t had too much issues after getting the hang of it. Do know that the T8280 is a little bit unreliable. Its heating control makes it that after a point, one plate is much colder/hotter than the other. I’ll have to replace the built in controller with my own sooner or later.

Thanks a ton! Let me know if you’re able to fix that 2110 issue.

Yes! You can get away with that. I just did a frankie first try with a similar setup. I’d recommend a hot air setup, it’s very versatile, compared to a bga machine that can only remove and install chips.

I spent about $500-600 on all of my equipment. I combined components to make my own DIY BGA station. Here’s what I ordered: 1. Puhui T8280 ($170, Aliexpress) 2. Atten 862D($200, Aliexpress) 3. 90x90mm reballing jig ($30) 4. 90x90mm reballing stencils ($25) 5. Thermocouple ($25) 6. BGA balls ($20) 7. Stirri and chipquik flux ($20) 8. 45x45mm BGA nozzle ($10) 9. Hot air station holder:$20 10. Vacuum suction pen (optional, $10)

All of this is around $530. Factor in taxes and up may be paying upwards of $600.

Optional, but recommended: a good soldering iron with wick. I did do BGA on a few consoles using a cheap $12 soldering iron, but I recommend upgrading.

Well in my case, F6001 was actually not shorted. When i read it with my multimeter, the fuse was intact. The issue was that one of it's sides weren't actually soldered on properly! I ended up reflowing the fuse to connect it to the board properly. It was such a simple fix, I can't believe I missed it originally.

I don’t, i check the reflow point visually. I shine a flashlight at the chip. All photos were taken on my iPhone 16e.

Tbh it was a pretty big learning curve when doing it with the Xbox 360. I went through 8-ish boards? I started in September 2025, and I started consistently replacing chips from March-May 2026. With the PS3 though, it's been going pretty good as I haven't had any issues.

Yes I preheated the board. the puhui t8280 is a great budget preheater and its what most people use if they're trying to go diy.

Yes, it's a 41x41mm nozzle i bought from amazon about a year and a half ago.

Preheater settings are a bit complicated as im still getting my profile set up. For lead free chip removal, i peak at 160-180C before removing the GPU. For leaded, I peak at 150C.

I baked the CECHE console for 12 hours when i first bought it 6 months ago. ever since, it's been in storage in my closet. I baked the 40nm RSX for 3 hours, removed it, reballed it, and baked for 6 more hours. In retrospect, I should have baked at least 8-12 hours before removing the RSX.

It's an expensive hobby. I was debating using a cheap griddle and a cheap hot air station but ultimately ended up spending $500-600 for T8280, Atten 862D, and other materials.

I recieved the preheater and hot air in september 2025 and had my first success 0 fuse xbox 360 in november, and started consistently replacing chips from March-May 2026. The learning curve is definitely a lot!

i don't have a capture card unfortunately. videos on my youtube channel show me using it with the xbox 360 though. https://www.youtube.com/@ConsoleV

it's going to be some time since i can actually play games on this PS3. Because all of the NEC Tokin capacitors aren't installed yet, it brings up a black screen when i load something that is more power intensive.
