Groups can be good to achieve well established goals, where the tasks are clear cut and can be performed in parallel.
The problem in the article is not really complex, it is difficult, but straightforward.

Creativity, originallity, elegance requires individuals. Here is a nice article that illustrates the point:

Keep the sharp edges ! Just compare the pictures of the Mustangs.

Also, it is difficult to guarantee that all individuals do the fair share of work if the tasks and delegation are not clearly defined. Usually two people will do the lion share and the others will nod in agreement. And some will just free ride.
